September Daily Chat

Where did that year go!?! We've lived through two-thirds of 2016 and some of us are making the most of late Summer festivities and social events.

Autumn is fast approaching and then we'll be in the season of Halloween through to Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, and the Super Bowl. JUDDD allows us to treat such occasions as part of the rhythm of our lives, and opportunities to apply what we know and choose to look forward to celebrations and seasonal events.

But, this isn't about JUDDD - this is where we mention and chat about everything else in our lives, our news, updates, and general socialising.

Happy first day of the month! As slow has said Fall is just around the corner and so are all those holidays! Gives me more motivation to really try harder the next 2 months!

I finally completed a perfect dd in idk how long! 499 calories , I'm down 2 lbs got lots of goodies planned for my ud but I am cooking way too much for 1 person! Running out of room in the fridge and freezer ( seriously there are 7 people here it's jam packed) but I can't help myself! Today I'm making grain free enchiladas , and I was going to make grain free crackers but I'm going to hold off on those. I have a half can of coconut milk I need to figure out how to use and I'm thinking of making keto fudgesicles....... I told you I get carried away!

September I hope the summer heat will stick around at least for this month. The days are getting noticeably shorter I went out to take a walk at 7pm yesterday and it was getting dark. This morning I took an earlier train than usual and while I walked to the train station it was still pitch black and all the street lights were still on.

Well, the way time flies I know the next thing I'll be saying is "Wow! It's April already!!!"

September! I love the 'bers!

(Sorry Carly )

It is also ToM.. I knew I was eating like a pig and feeling crazy cause of PMS. Man, I don't want to go through those wild mood swings again. Unsure why it was so bad this month?
Baby Bear will be 9 months old this month. Perhaps just some hormones leveling themselves out....

Taking the girls to spend the night with my sister and have a fun weekend fri/sat. Looking forward to spending time with her. Since we both cut our Mom out of our lives, we've gotten so much closer. I'm sad that it is that way, but some toxic people you just have to cut out no matter who they are.

Yesterday was supposed to be an UD but I just ate when hungry. Eggs, 8 oz salmon, a pb&J, celery & pb, 2 beef hot dogs wrapped in lettuce.
Today being a DD I am going to do the QWL foods so I stay fuller. Hoping I can make it a true DD today!

I'm with you Cindy- I love Autumn. I'm quite relieved the weather is a bit cooler. I walk DP twice a day minimum with longer weekend walks and we've both been wilting in the heat and humidity!!

I also love to wear sweaters and sweatshirts- they just feel cozy. and I like blankets too. I look forward to my weekend mornings with a cup of coffee or tea and snuggled on the sofa under a blanket.

and then there is walking in the woods in autumn- so nice! no bugs!!! And the winter woods have their own beauty as stark as it can be.

Maybe I need to move up north

September First and It's an Overcast Day

Dh is out fishing at Catalina Isle, and I slept in until 10 a.m and so
did my little dog Clemmie.

Weighed in this morning after my DD and I lost the two lbs. I had gained.
Happy happy! Won't go crazy today but I am making a little Chocolate
Almond Cake for two with a bit of ganache frosting. It's a recipe from
a low carber called "All Day I Dream About Food" will also have some
more of those good cabbage rolls and you were right, they were a good
DD food.

It is time to start thinking about the up coming holidays. Will finish
my little knitted hat and turn in the pink lace blanket I made for
the Marine base here on the coast at Camp Pendleton. My group,
the Knit Wits, make layettes for the new mommies daddies who are
giving their lives in service. Have a few things tucked away for Christmas
gifts.

Have a wonderful first of the ber months.
I can do this one day at a time.

Sigh carbs are gonna be higher today, I'm going to stick to my ud calories so let see how that affects me tomorrow morning. Decided to have a serving of olive oil chips and that turned into 3 so I adjusted some stuff around so I can still come in under my calories. The grain free enchiladas came out great! And I made peanut butter pops that I suspect
Will be out of this world. I also made grain free corn dogs that I dipped mustard. I'm so set
With meals for the week I won't have to cook for days!

mmm Vlo your food menus always make my mouth water. Today is a DD for me and I am struggling!! I echo Barbo- will you post any recipes?

I fasted til lunch successfully but then had to eat something - I had a headache that just wouldn't quit and sure enough it went away after eating. I'm probably almost to my calorie limit already so hopefully I can reign in the appetite tonight.
I boarded my dog for the night as a "test run" for when I have to be gone at that conference for 5 days next month (oh wait, its now THIS month!!) and it is going to be so weird not to be picking him up or to get his little wiggle butt dance when I get home. I bet I don't go walk in the woods without him either. Aw I'm going to miss him.

So I had mentioned we had this work party yesterday, and of course in the age of camera phones, there were pictures being snapped all over the place. MAN that sucks. Just when I'm starting to feel a little bit OK about how I think I look, I see a picture. I HATE pictures of myself!! ARGH!!! and videos!! people took videos! sigh. I want to run around and take everyone's phones and go delete them. I am one of the least photogenic people I know . blah.

Ok mini rant done now. The party itself was tons of fun which was a surprise for a work party!

Its almost Friday...almost Friday...
Carly I think you said this was a stressful day for you so I hope you are hanging in there.

Yes Vlo, enquiring minds need to know.

Glad your 2 pounds have gone Barbo.

Phoenix, I leave my lovely cat in a cattery when we holiday. And yes I miss her, being a cat, I doubt she misses me, lol. Glad the party was fun, and yes there are too many photos in the world!

Went up to London and back by train yesterday, to see a matinee at the Young Vic. An amazing play, Yerma, well worth the cost and trial of the journey. But, bread was eaten with the delicious olive oil at the lovely Italian restaurant we happened upon. I bloat with bread, so I refused to get on the scales this morning. I don't want a bad number on the first of the month!

Awwwwwwww Kissa,

I arrived in London in October and the trees were bare and a biting breeze off
the Thames, but we were in a wonderful park near Chelsea and there were smells
of onions cooking, sure enough there was a little sandwich stand in the park and
we had to stop and get some of that goodness. I always think of London in the
fall because that was my first time there. Often wanted to go back, but I'm a bit
old now for all the walking that is required. Good times, nights at wonderful little
restaurants out and lots of theater. We lived in the west end and it was a marvelous
time of my life. Did I say I gained about 8 lbs. the first week? All the double Devon
cream, and scones and bakeries that lined Kings Road in Chelsea.

So glad you had a wonderful time out.

Hello Joining you guys. I started juddd on a DD today. I have done Stillmans off and on for way too many years. Losing and gaining the same 20-30 pounds over and over.

I am desperate for something long term that is healthy and sustainable. I am reading the book and excited about following this plan.

Ashley- yay! Welcome to the dark side! J/k! Juddd really does work if you stick to your rotations and calories , hope it goes well for you!

Phoenix- glad you had a great time at your work party that's all that matter! Embrace those pics and videos because sooner rather than later you can use them as "before" pictures once you lose all the weight!

Ok so the enchiladas recipe came about because I made grain free tortilla the other day that were sorta meh. They reminded me more of a crepe or pancake so I knew I didn't want to use them as a taco shell. But I wasn't going to let them go to waste either! So my advice is to look up a decent grain free or low carb tortilla recipe and use that. Now on to the enchildas:

8 Tortillas ( low carb, grain free, corn etc)
14 oz chicken breast poached, then shredded
1 jar Trader Joes Hot Chipotle Salsa
4 oz sharp cheddar
4 oz mozzarella
1/2 cup chicken broth

Simmer salsa and chicken broth for 10 mins. Preheat oven 350. In an 8x8 dish ladle thin layer of salsa on bottom of dish, then layer tortillas, 1/3 of shredded chicken, 1/3 of both cheeses , then salsa.rinse and repeat two more times. Bake for 30-40 minutes.
Top with guacamole and sour cream and enjoy!

Guys I feel like a dope no wonder my tortillas came out Meh I didn't use the right recipe! Use this one it's good if done the right way lol!

Flatbreads/ tortillas

(soy-free, dairy-free, Paleo-friendly)

1/3 cup (48g) tapioca starch
1/4 cup (1 oz) coconut flour
1 cup egg whites (approx. 12 egg whites)
2 TBSP organic palm shortening or coconut oil, melted, or cooking fat of choice (set aside for cooking)
2 TBSP apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon gluten-free Hain sodium-free baking powder
1 TBSP honey or sweetener of choice
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt or to taste
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 TBSP ground flaxseed meal, optional

1. Add all dry ingredients to blender; blend on high speed for 20-30 seconds to sift and combine dry ingredients thoroughly.
2. Dump dry ingredients into large mixing bowl; add in all other ingredients except for the shortening/oil, that will be used for coating the frying pan. Mix all ingredients together until thin batter forms and all dry ingredients are incorporated.

3. Preheat frying pan on low heat. In a small bowl, melt your shortening or coconut oil or fat of choice in the microwave if solid. Dip your pastry brush in the liquid fat and brush a thin coating all over your frying pan, coat it thoroughly, and don’t skip around the edges. The oil will go very far when you spread it thinly.

4. Using a ladle or spoon, pour about 1/4 cup of the batter into the greased frying pan and swirl it around to spread it out in the pan until it’s the size you want. Try not to stretch it too thin or it might tear or cook unevenly.

5. Cook until lightly browned and firm on one side, gently flip over and cook other side until also lightly browned and firm.

6. After each flatbread, remove it from the pan onto a plate and brush with cooking fat before each ladle goes in. I don’t recommend cooking more than one at a time unless you use a large griddle.

7. Repeat until all batter is used.

Yields approx. 10 flatbreads, 80 calories each

Store in the fridge in a storage container. If you freeze them, I suggest separating each one with a piece of wax or parchment paper to avoid breaking. Should last in the fridge for 3-5 days. Warm or toast before eating.

Today was a ud for me, did go over my calories!!!

For over a week now I am taking hrt like I use too - 6 days a week and feel better, not so "B" as they say, calmer, less stressed out and I am not so dry "down under"

Started to do a very little fall house cleaning, washed bedding in the spare room and changed the blankets for cooler temps. This room will take me about a week to get done

Nice to read all about everyone!

My UD calories is 2107. Is it ok to not eat that many or it recommended that you eat all your calories? Seems like a lot.

My advice is to try and eat them all, and once you've had some dd's I'm sure you want to eat them all. It's not hard to hit that number if you are eating HFLC like I am.

Leona- my ud was no good too! All that cleaning should keep you busy on your dd!

So yea, I stopped counting at one point, I know I didn't go too crazy but the carbs had gone too high earlier in the day so I kinda gave up. Still stuck to my woe but yea today I'm right back up the 2lbs I lost On my dd. I've made zero progress this week on Juddd so far but I know it's due to user error. I've been bouncing from 168-170 for 2 weeks. Which is better than gaining that's for sure but I need to make better progress. My dh threw a wrench in my dd today, he wants me to bring the kids to his job in the city and then go out for lunch before my DD goes back to school next week. I said ok but argh , this means today will likely turn into an md or another ud. Which fine , guess that'll make tomorrow a dd instead. I need to be more flexible with stuff like that and not get messed up for days all because my rotation got thrown off! Ce la vie ! Just get right back to it the next day right? Anywho now I have a billion things to do and get mine and my kids butts on the train! Ttyl!

Vlo, my whole week has been disrupted plans so I feel for you. But some things are worth a ruined DD .

I woke up to a quiet house with no DP around. I did not like it. I miss my little fur-baby when he's not around. I did, however, have lots of time this morning and am at work early, which hopefully means I can leave early too and go pick him up and get in a nice long walk. I am very much looking forward to our weekend away, but not to the 5-6 hour drive to get there. Oh well, we'll take a couple of breaks.

My planned DD yesterday turned in to a MD- I've had a big appetite this week for some reason. Maybe its the change in the weather? It has gone from 90s and humid to 70s and less humidity which I love, but I swear it sparks the hibernation "get fat" instinct - ha ha. So I will try yet again for another DD (had only one successful DD on Monday, 1 UD, 1 MD and probably a 2nd UD when I think of the liquid calories). I didn't get on the scale today and I probably won't until next week some time (certainly not while out of town!!) so I am just going to have to try to be conscious of my eating.

Ok time to buckle down and try to get out of work early today - I love long weekends!!

we had to stop and get some of that goodness.

I had missed this Barbo, I love that your time in London was so happy. I love London too, but it can be a challenging city. My DH and I love theatre so it is a magical city for us and we are lucky to live in a glorious area that is mostly green.

Glad everyone is doing pretty well. My DDs are going pretty well although some wine crept in yesterday!

Thanks Kissa,
I did want you to see my little note about London in the fall.

Today is UP day and I'm also working on the resistant starch theory,
that cooked and re-warmed pasta has less starch and effect on blood sugar.
Cooked the pasta in the morning. Starting with a fasting blood sugar of 88,
and ate 1 c. re-heated with a couple tbs. of my home made sugar free tomato
sauce.

3 p.m blood sugar 88 will check back at 4 p.m.

Hi Katie!

Quick fly-by here too. This is DW's birthday weekend. Eating too much. I'm sure there will be damage come Wednesday.

Hoping that Hermine passes us by without too much disruption, but seems iffy at this point.

Just popping in for September! you all seem to be doing well, rotating and cooking away! Good job one and all!

I'm still working out and doing some slight rotations, lighter on rest days, higher cals on lifting days-focus on protein. My lifting is going great, adding weight to the bar and feel good . Weight steady in the upper 160's, which is not my goal weight, but I look pretty good and am eating well. I'm getting over my binging and indulging mentality I picked up on Juddd, and seem to be getting better at listening to hunger, still waiting to see the endocrinologist next week for Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, so I'm just working on maintaining and fueling my workouts for now.

I'm with the Fall lovers in the crowd. My favorite time of year! but not much to celebrate here in Az, . I miss fall back east enjoy those of you getting cooler temps! I want to wear sweatshirts and jeans!

Barb- even if it went over its still a dd, good job!

Carly- hope you enjoyed the weekend , worry about damage control later!

Julie- glad you are still doing good! I think About half of us have found that Juddd brings out binging issues. This has been my struggle the last year and a half of Juddd. Idk what to do about it or if maybe I need a Juddd break to try to fix my relationship with food atm.....

So I went to the city on Friday and had a big lunch and even had ice cream and proceeded to go home and overeat. Next day I was only up .6 and I was thrilled I was trying to hit the ground running and fasted til" 2 pm and then proceeded to over eat agian. Next day I was up 2lbs. Then yesterday I just ate what I had in the house so that it wouldn't go bad since I knew I had committed to doing a fat fast this week. I'm up another 2 lbs. I hate that I could have recovered quickly but instead continued to have 3 bad days in a row. Now instead maybe seeing progress this week I'll be working to relose weight. Juddd honestly makes me binge hard. The last 2 weeks of stillmans I had no binging and my weight held steady, then I go back to Juddd this past week and after a few days I'm eating like a starved animal. Idk what to do anymore so this week is back to hacking it, fat fast for now then at the end of the week I'll re-evaluate. Might do stillmans the next week after that or Potato hack. Also since I have no problem most to the time fasting till at least 2pm I may just try fast 5 for awhile, we'll see if that still brings out binging or not. Anywho hope you all had a good holiday weekend!

Oh, I ate and binged all weekend long, Vlo. I'm with you.
Today I am trying very hard to do a down day. It's 11am and food has crossed my mind more than I like.
