We are not allowed to post the link, but if you Google Dr. Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet and then copy the actual address into the address bar you will get to his site with the calculator.

I really like doing* fast. Been reading Dr.J. Fung.*doing it.
Just got to make sure I stay on track with fasting. To finsh to goal 107 and maybe 105. *But first* 110{

I was looking that maybe fast every other day and on my up day cals=500. 600 cals. for rest of year and see how that goes.
Plus I exercise and Detox.
If u like take a look at Flexitarian Plan.
seems healthy and I think more for me.@ fasting should work great with it.
I'm just nerves about kinda eating. after fasting.

In the induction phase, do you automatically stick to no more than 500 calories or do you use the DD calculation?

If you want to manipulate UDs and DDs to have Saturday as an UD, can you do 2 DDs and then 2 UDs?

2 DDs are not not generally considered JUDDD, since one of the main points of the protocol is to not starve the bod (and thus avoid the bod going into starvation metabolism)

But 2 UDs in a row are extremely common--many people (myself included) have done years on Sat + Sun UDs, with DDs on M, W, and F. Known throughout the galaxy as 4:3. It allows for a nice weekly rhythm. I lost about fifty lb last year doing this.

Some people do 5:2, with two DDs a week (M, W or M, Th are common). Common in maintenance and for people with less to lose. My sister did this and lost 20 lb in about eight months.

There is also a thingy known as a Medium Day (MD), which can either be planned or unplanned. Some people do 4:3 with a Sat or Sun MD.

Dr. Johnson says it's important not to exceed 500 on DDs during induction. The heavier, taller, younger and male(er) you are the DD calories are higher, so some people get a calculator number over 500, but he says during induction that is the number not to exceed.

I started straight away with 380, which was my DD number at 20% WLM. Back when I started no one mentioned the 500 induction level and basically most people just started with their calculator number at 20% or maybe 25%.

Hey so anyone had success just starting with the UD and DD calculations and not going through the induction phase? I would like to start but I know if I do start on the 500 cal induction phase in the next couple of weeks I won’t be successful. However, I do think that I could stick to the UD and DD Calculations.

Hi annabanana- May I ask what your DD calculation is? I can see this is stressing you out a bit. As someone who has experienced great fear of being hungry and blowoing it, I sympathize. *hugs*

Using your stats of 185 (if that is correct) and guessing a height of 5'5" and age 35 I get 384 for DDs. That might be off depending on actual age and height, but for sure, it's fine to start straight away with that number. I'm not sure if your actual number for DD is way over 500... I'm guessing not, but it's Dr. Johnson's recommendation to stick at or below 500 for DDs during the first 2 weeks, but obviously, whatever actually makes the plan doable for you is what will be most successful in the long run.

ETA: Just making sure you don't think the 2 weeks of induction is all DDs... It's rotations from the start.

Thanks so much for responding P0rtia and Carly. My post- induction calories are UD 2139 and DD 963. My stats are old. I am at 172.6 and am 62 years of age. I work out 5 days each week for 45 minutes and the workouts include high intensity cardio in weights. I have a job that requires the utmost mental clarity and I am just going into my busiest time of year. My thought was that I would do the post induction calorie counts. My DD calories are 385 For induction at 40% of the post induction DD. If I know my body and my mind, that would put me into a fog. My job is challenging when I’m not in a fog. I think I could make it on that calorie count but I simply cannot make mistakes and my job. OAny suggestions are appreciated.

I am only guessing, but it doesnít seem likely that weight loss or the benefits of fasting will occur 2,100/900. You can give it a try and see how it works, but with those calories you are averaging about 1,500 a day, which, even for an active adult woman would yield very slow or no weight loss.

Give it a try and see. Itís really the only way to know. Most of us have not had any success adding in activity calories.

You have to make sure you move it from Kg to Lbs. sadly we have seen some people who made that mistake and didnít understand why they were gaining!!!

Sadly, the older, shorter and lighter us women are , even if we are fairly active, our calorie needs just arenít that great. Sad but true.

What Carly said: it looks to me like the "lb" v "kg" and "cm" v "inches" is causing the confusion.

For 5'4" tall 62 yo woman, your inputs would be:

- 64" (not cm)

- 172 lb (not kg)

- 62 years (not months)

- Light exercise (most of us have learned that we should downgrade our exercise one level)

- 25 percent weight-loss mode

Results are 1950 / 488.

Note that you have three fixed date inputs (height, weight, age), and two that are variable (activity and restriction). So there is a certain amount of choice and experiementing built in. For example:

- Little or no exercise (which is recommended by many no matter now much exercise you actually get)

- 20 percent weight-loss mode

Results are 1702 / 340

As for induction, honestly, there is no need or point for induction on JUDDD. It's a protocol, not a diet. You just do it. The questions you're asking are really yours to answer (aside from how to use the calculator!). If you ask us, we'll inevitably recommend moderate UD calories (with activity set to little or none) and low DD calories (no higher than 25%).

But it's up to you! If you don't want to restrict DDs to 500 right now, that's fine--wait till you can. If you want to do 1950 / 700 or 800 or whatever, go ahead. We'll all cheer you on!

Hi! New to this site, also just learning about JUDDD. I'm doing Atkins currently, and enjoying it.
My question is this-
Anyone know anyone/of anyone doing JUDDD while on dialysis? Thoughts on JUDDD while on dialysis?

Welcome, Birdeie. I don't know of anyone. If anyone does, I'm sure they'll post. This board is very helpful.

My question is this-
Anyone know anyone/of anyone doing JUDDD while on dialysis? Thoughts on JUDDD while on dialysis?
I have been here for 5+ years and never seen anyone post about JUDDDing while on dialysis. Strong recommendation to speak your doctor.
