Yesterday- Friday- I was sooooo sick. I ate a normal dinner on Thursday night after my blood sugar tanked and I called Uncle.

On Friday I felt seriously horrendous. No matter what I ate my blood sugar kept plummeting into the 50's. I had to leave work at 1pm. I got in bed at 3:30pm and stayed there all night. I became seriously nauseous for a while between 7pm and 9pm, but didn't get sick.

I finally got my blood sugar to stay in the mid 80's and today- although quite hungry I feel much better.

Oy, I guess I won't try that again, but congrats to all who did so well!

I'm going to do 4:3 or EOD for a while until I figure out what I can do to shed these 10 pounds

Carly-
Don't feel bad about this. I tried the potato hack a few years ago when it was the rage on Mark Sisson's site. I don't have diabetes, but I'm really carb sensitive.

After 3 days, I was starving and felt dreadful. Somone online told me that I'd feel better if I gave it a couple of more days, so I did two more. I felt even worse--and had GAINED a couple of pounds. Once I went back to my normal, low-carb eating, I felt OK again.

Much as I love potatoes, they don't love me.

Geez Carly definitely sounds like you need to stay away from the hack. That's not good. Glad you are feeling better now. How long have you been doing the 24 hour fasting? Maybe you need to eat more often during the day instead of the long fasts for a little while or switch to fasting every other day or something to shake things up in your body instead of doing it every day. I don't know, just tossing it out there.

I believe our bodies adapt to whatever we do and though there are benefits to doing it, we probably need to shake things up now and then to get our bodies out of a rut. If your body has adapted to the 24 hr fasting it may just need a change not in the foods but in the eating pattern to make something happen. Of course that is only if you've been doing it long term. If not then just ignore all that LOL

Yes, Pamela, I've been doing it for years- over 3 years for sure. I have taken short breaks like on vacation and stuff like that, but I'm afraid that perhaps my body has adapted.

I'm really going to have to put some time and energy into researching what will work best for me or what is something I can do short term to shake things up.

I wish there was more long term research out there for women who have been doing IF for years, but I don't think there is much out there.

Morning ladies! I have to say that reading these posts have scared me a bit so I've been experimenting with doing one or two meals a day potatoes only until I commit to the hack 100 pct. I developed a sensitivity to potatoes skins also so I wanted to test that out too to see if I'm okay just eating the insides. Still havent been eating the skins but the potatoes are slightly upsetting my stomach but nothing too bad to make me stop. I'm happy to say my weight has stayed the same and even dropped a bit yesterday. I'm hoping to commit to the hack on Tuesday after I finish up some veggies and such before they expire.

Carly hope you feel better soon. That really stinks. I do know I am concerned with feeling that badly once I cut out fat and protein all the way...

I'm not ready for another hack yet. Need to wait until I actually would want to eat a potato on purpose. When I get back from weekend travels I'm considering trying the alternating day WOE. Any females hear try this?

I got to thinking after I posted. Maybe I do mean JUDDD, just using potatoes only for down days. You can tell I'm not a JUDDD aficionado.

You're here and that's what matters.
I'm not seeing an issue with that. I'm sure someone has tried it who can offer advice..

In case your curious I didn't not experience any additional weight loss after the hack and I've also gained back 5 lbs this weekend. I think if I would have gone back to my Juddd rotations and eaten clean I would have dropped additional weight. But I had my sons bday party this weekend and while I can say I didn't binge ( which is usually my problem) the food wasn't the healthiest and I did drink some wine. So anywho idk when I'll feel up to doing date he hack again , but I still think it's worth giving a shot if you are stuck.

My mini experimentation with potatoes and rice went well also. Mexican Saturday night, alcohol Friday night - typically nets me a 2-3 lb retention Monday morning if not more (6 lbs once about 6 weeks ago...) Woke up at the same weight today which is unheard of. This might just work for me.

Terri - WTG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vlo- I bet those 5# will fall right off and you might continue to lose then!

We got a big box of sweet potatoes from a nearby farmer and I've been having one with dinner. I've been following the thread with interest. Today I decided why not try it 3 days with sweet potatoes and I can let you know what happens. I'm cooking and cooling them. Can't find much information on whether they have resistant starch, too, but we'll see what happens. I think it will be fun. I'm planning for tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.

I'm almost through day 1. I had GY on my 2nd potato and ketchup on my 3rd. I'm thinking mashed potatoes tonight. I felt a little iffy at first but fine now.

Sweet Potato Hack

Day 1: 121.4
Day 2: 118.6

The first day was really easy. I wasn't hungry although there were times my stomach felt acidic, but it passed. I cooked and cooled the potatoes and then reheated and cooled them again. I read this increases the resistant starch. I cooked them in the microwave. I ate them cold with only salt. Through the day I drank only black coffee and water. In the afternoon I read that sweet potato skins are very nutritious so at dinner time I also ate the skin. Today I plan to eat the skins. I lost count, but I think I had 5 potatoes yesterday.

Allright guys, I'm going to have to attempt every other days on the PH. I felt okay yesterday while hacking but today I'm feeling very very light headed, blurred vision, etc and its not worth it to attempt again today. I'm going to eat regular low carb today and then I'll try another PH day tomorrow.

Amending my above statement. I ate a few pistachios and literally sat here and ate himlayan sea salt and I feel 100% better. Guess I should have been drinking some chicken broth yesterday. I will probably try potatoes again at lunch if I still feel okay. Even with eating the 'off plan' pistachios I might try to salvage this potato day.

Also side note: potatoes in the crockpot are horrible and won't make that mistake again, I have to throw out what I have left. They are GROSS.

I am back from vacation and am planning a one-day PH tomorrow. I may continue on Friday provided I'm not starving like I was last week. This time I plan to eat whenever I am hungry instead of worrying about how many pounds of potatoes I am consuming. These past two, one-day, PH's haven't yielded much of a loss though so I would like to do a longer hack to see what happens. So far though, my biggest losses come after a day of eating greek yogurt. That typically produces a 3.4 to 4.2 lb. loss after only one day. If I can get the same results from potatoes then I can switch things up so that I don't get sick of eating just yogurt! Hoping for a big drop on Friday ~ will keep you all posted

Sweet Potato Hack

Day 1: 121.4
Day 2: 118.6
Day 3: 119.2

Yesterday I wasn't quite as hungry so I only had 4 potatoes and this time I didn't salt them. The absence of hunger is most surprising. I didn't have the problem with the acicidic stomach yesterday. I have plenty of energy and especially in the afternoons I get this really calm, mellow feeling. My feet are swollen this morning, so there's probably some water retention going on. I didn't drink as much water yesterday, so that might have something to do with it. Overall I feel really good. The sweet potatoes are really tasty so it makes it easy to stick with the diet. I like them better with salt so I'll use it today.
