Just got back from my physical at the doctor. It went really well! He was happy with my weight loss and was positive about me being on a keto diet. His only concern was the same concern he has with every diet: Can you actually maintain it?

Stan and I have this conversation often about getting to the goal weight and being able to maintain that. It's a bit terrifying because I'm sure most of the people here have had some success losing weight, but have gained some or all of it back. I know this has personally happened to me many times.

A couple of things are different for me personally this time around.

1) I haven't really had to exercise on this diet to drop weight. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight, I was running three times a week with a race every weekend. I was living in Chicago at the time, and as soon as it got to cold to comfortably run outside, back came the weight. That being said, I plan on starting back up running soon, but I know now that I don't "need" to do that to continue to drop weight.

2) I have a TON more energy than I can ever remember, and also my mind feels much clearer and more focused, almost like I'm smarter. (I know Stan, I didn't think that was possible either!) My confidence is through the roof as well, which is such an awesome feeling. All of these things are like an addictive drug that makes me want more of it.

3) I have you gals, and guy! I think it is so important to surround yourself with a community of people that are on the same journey as you. You get to celebrate successes with each other, and you also get to spread encouragement and love when someone is struggling. There is so much great advice given here as well. Knowing that others have walked this path, and have had the struggles you are having, but made it through gives us confidence that we can do it as well.

I really enjoy reading everybody's posts about their journey! Please keep posting!

I think he's ready for the onslaught of orthodox pharmaceutical silliness that most docs spew, if he happens to be concentrating at that critical moment. He's supposed fly his doc the Naughty Finger at the suggestion of meds, but his memory is poor, and his Naughty Finger is only 2 fingers away from his THUMBS UP Sign....and a TOTALLY different outcome.

I wish I could go with him to his appointment.... buuuuuut that'd just be a little too weird, I guess.

Focus, Michael. Focus!!
Michael.....listen to Stan! Statins are BAD. One problem is, Doctors get little, if any, actual pharmacy training in Medical School...and even if they did, meds change way more often than they could keep up with. Basically, they listen to what the pharmaceutical reps tell them. (Not a good thing since the reps are responsible for selling the drug. ) A cardiologist talked me into taking a statin years ago, and all I got out of it was muscle pain in my left arm...bad enough, that I did some research and stopped taking that evil drug. Made the doc so mad that after a couple more visits I switched cardiologists. After being on LCHF for some time, my numbers came down. I now have what my current cardiologist calls "golden numbers." If you are hesitant about believing us old-timey non-doctors (Stan and me)....go to YouTube and do a search for "Statin Drugs: What You Need to Know!" and check out some really GOOD info....especially the one from Dr. Mercola. I used to have the title of a really good, explanatory book but now I can't find that. BTW....it's been years since I stopped taking the drug and I STILL have muscle pain/weakness in my left arm, albeit less than when I was taking the statin. It, obviously, will never go away.

Laura....Good attitude.

Terri...I know how you feel. My calories have to be under 1000/day too. Closer to 800 is best for me.

Michael....Just saw today's post from you. ...#3 is why I keep coming here whether I lose or not. If I stopped weighing everyday (and coming here) I'd undoubtedly be at 4 or 5 hunnert by now. Since you didn't mention statins, I hope that means you aren't taking them. You are lucky to have a doctor that is OK with this WOE. Thankfully, more are coming around to it. NOW...if you ARE taking statins...please refer to my previous diatribe to you and check out the info for yourself.

Gotta run.....See ya all tomorrow.

I've been out of commission with an allergic reaction and subsequent steroids. The scale said 193 this morning which I attribute to the medication. Still around but probably won't weight until I go back to the doctor on November 1.

Good evening! I already checked in this morning but I wanted to take a moment to say thanks!

It looks like everyone is doing great! Thanks for all of the answers and opinions to my questions. I appreciate you all offering your advice. I am feeling much better than I did 48 hours ago. I think it might have been the "keto flu" like some of you mentioned. Whatever it was I am glad it has passed for the time being.

Now, if I can just get the scale to start moving in the other direction again, I will be happier! I am really not doing anything different so I can't figure out why the number is climbing rather than dropping. But, I am going to keep on keeping on!

I did drink a lot more water today than I have been. I am trying to stop drinking Diet Coke but I haven't yet. It is my one vice! And, honestly, I am not really sure that I want to give it up. But, I am cutting down on them.

Welcome Poppy! I am glad you are here.
Congrats to everyone with great news to report and to everyone else who does not give up. I believe we can all make it!

Have a good night! I am so glad it is Friday tomorrow!

Our Foshan, China foreign exchange teachers arrived yesterday. Of course we took them out for fajitas. Fajitas are a good meal for a foreigner that is used to a very different diet. You can put whatever you want in a fajita
I had a corn tortilla, about a tablespoon of rice and about 3 chips. Of course it was mostly meat. I was showing them how to stuff the tortilla. (excuses) It was yummy.
Their English is very limited and we are sometimes using a digital translator but not too much. So far they are very involved and its really really nice. This is the 3rd year we have done this. Each year different people. The first year, they were duds. Stayed in their room all the time. Last year they were move involved. This year they are MUCH involved. Cindy even helped me with my school work this evening and did the dinner dishes

Thanks y'all! I feel good going down. One challenge is coming up...Grimaldi's this Saturday. I can just have a salad. I'll snag a few toppings too.

Stan you are doing really awesome yourself! I remember being in the 100's. Ahhh! I love love love my job so I enjoy working hard. Bummed that my principal doesn't like me much. First time ever in all my 23 years. She's like a mean girl. So sad it has to be this way.
Terri I am so doing eggs like that soon! Sounds like dinner eggs.
Kind, you go girl!
Shannon
Sammi, WTG! Keep it up!
Poppy WW killed me too. So much eating...all day long! Are your kids in year-round school?
Cindy! Awesome new decade girly!
GG be patient and perhaps don't weight for a day. Also, can TOM be approaching? I used to gain 3 and lose it right away after he left. (had a hysterectomy so don't have that issue anymore)
Micheal, awesome doctor visit! Yes, a support group is so essential and online is perfect because it fits into a busy lifestyle. We all fall at times but its what we do afterward that makes the difference. Its also about making it a lifestyle. I'm still working on it and likely will be til I die.
Bronwyn, I hope you feel better.

School dance tomorrow evening...not sure if I'll post or not.

I don't believe I'll hit the submit button til morning, however.

My Fast 48 turned into a Fast 64, so that's the main reason for the Faux Whoosh. No way is that number genuine. I'll break fast @ 2PM.

I'd be THRILLED to net an actual, honest Pound 'O' Fat from this fast. We shall see....

Woosh, baby, woosh! Nothing like losing 7 pounds in 2 days! Nobody say anything about waterweight...blah, blah, blah....I've got my fingers in my ears.

Yesterday was another good one. I haven't yet started feeling sluggish like I usually do when I first cut out carbs. I've really been drinking a ridiculous amount and being extra liberal with the salt to try to avoid headaches and such. Food was good and my appetite is diminishing, although I woke up hungry this morn. I've been tracking, aiming for Keto style macros, and have decided that's not for me right now. I'm sooo sick of tracking. So, I'm just gonna do what I used to do. It used to work, so I'm thinking it will again.

Angela~ No year round school here, but we do have more breaks built into the year and then a slightly shorter summer. I'd like it if they shortened summer break even more and gave us more week long breaks throughout the year. The kids really look forward to our breaks, but get bored over the long summer when it's too hot here in the south to really enjoy it anyway.

HELP!~ I've got a hayride to attend tomorrow evening and need to take a pot of soup. I posted in the recipe section, but haven't got any responses yet. Do any of you fine people have an awesome low carb soup recipe recommendation? I want to make sure there is something there I can eat, but I'd like others to enjoy it, too. Thanks!

Have a great day EVERYONE!

I'm not throwing in the towel yet, because I know there are things I can do better. I've gripped onto the (doctored) coffee to get me through, and I drink TOO MUCH of it. I used to have like a cup in the morning, and a cup in the afternoon. Well, yesterday, I had a total of 5!! SHAME!

Today is going to be weirdly sad at work. We are losing 2 good employees. We're having a pot-luck lunch to send them off. It's gonna be quiet here come monday

For the pot luck, I made my usual crock pot chicken spaghetti. Only I didn't add any pasta. I will serve with tortilla chips and pork rinds (for the lower carb choice).

Tomorrow, I will cheat. I will eat some thin crust pizza after the Komen Race for the Cure. I will follow with a Fast 48 on Sunday. I will try my very best next week to either cut back or cut out the coffee. If I do, I will drop. I'm just being up front with you guys.

Stan, you're ridiculous. Just saying.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Poppy, nothing fancy from me, we do a version of Acadian Chicken Fricot which is just cook a chicken, pick it, boil the carcass with summer savoury and salt to make a broth, strain, shred the chicken and put it back in, chop up turnip (small) and onion (just a bit- carbs), nice glob of butter, salt, pepper, more summer savoury and boil it until turnip is cooked. (traditional has potatoes and dumplings, but this does the trick for us).

What's the opposite if a whoosh? I don't know what my problem is, but I will keep coming here and posting and starting each and every day with the plan of staying on track. I will get back on track, hopefully sooner rather than later.

, Poppy! Also, nich whoosh!
Laura, Michael, and Stan, congrats on getting to the new decades!!

Michael...That's good news.

Bronwyn...Steroids do a good job, but are awful when it comes to weight loss...or even maintaining. Hope you are off them soon. Hang in there and stick to your plan.

Have a great day EVERYONE!
Poppy...This first one is for a bunch of servings:

Cheesy-Creamy Cauliflower-Broccoli-Chicken Soup

Swanson Chicken Broth 1-49 oz can (OR 3-14 oz cans plus ˝ can of water)
1 cup water
1 Tbsp. Chicken Bouillon
3 lbs raw cauliflower (2 med. heads)
1 lb raw broccoli
1 (1 lb.) jar Ragu Double Cheddar Sauce
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1-1/2 to 2 lbs of cooked chicken -- cubed

Cook chicken broth, bouillon, water, cauliflower, and broccoli until cauliflower and broccoli are soft. Partially blend with hand-held stick blender until there are just “some” small chunks left. Add the Ragu Cheddar Sauce and stir. Add the cream and stir. Add the cubed cooked chicken and stir. Add salt and pepper to taste.

2 cups:
Calories 217; Sat Fat 6 gm; Carbs 7 gm; Fiber 3 gm; Sugar 2 gm; Protein 19 gm
``````````````````````````
This one makes way less, but could easily be doubled.
BEEB'S TUSCANO SOUP
1 pound Italian sausage
1 small onion, diced, 2 1/2 ounces
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups chicken broth
10 ounce package frozen chopped spinach, thawed
1/2 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
Freshly grated parmesan cheese, optional
Remove the sausage from its casings, if necessary. Brown the sausage in a 4-quart soup pot along with the onion and garlic; drain fat. Add the broth and undrained spinach; bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Add the cream and simmer a few minutes until the cream is heated. Season to taste. Sprinkle a little parmesan cheese over each serving, if desired.
Makes six 3/4-cup servings or 5-6 cups
Can be frozen.
Per Serving: 366 Calories; 32g Fat; 15g Protein; 4g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 2g Net Carbs
This came from Beeb at Low Carb Friends and is very tasty and a little spicy. She uses 3 Italian sausage links, 3/4 package of frozen spinach and 1/2 tablespoon of red pepper flakes instead of black pepper. Be sure to taste the soup before adding any salt. There's a lot of salt in the sausage as well as the broth. This soup is very simple and quick to make and, if you're rushed for time, it probably doesn't even need a full 30 minutes of simmering.
````````````````````````
Italian Sausage Soup

3 lbs Italian sausage (mild, hot, or a combination)
64 oz. chicken stock and 4 cups water
1 (26 oz) Can Hunts Spaghetti Sauce (Roasted Garlic & Onion)
2 lbs Cabbage shredded
1/2 cup (heaping) grated Parmesan cheese
1 lb. zuccini squash (cut in chunks)
5 TB chicken bouillon
1 TB Cumin (or to taste)
2 (10 oz) boxes chopped frozen spinach
For those of you who don’t like spinach…substitute French Cut Green beans and cut them up a little so they are shorter.

Brown sausage as you would ground beef. Do not drain. The fat adds flavor.
Add chicken stock, water, cumin, and bouillon. Stir. Add cabbage. Simmer for about 15 minutes.

Add everything else. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes or until spinach or green beans are done. This freezes well.
````````````````````````````````````````
Meatball Soup
30-40 frozen, fully-cooked meatballs
1 can diced tomatoes, undrained
(I used Southwest brand)
4 cups beef stock
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, pressed
2 zucchini, sliced
3 green onions, chopped
pkg. fresh mushrooms, sliced large
1 tsp. Salt
˝ tsp. Pepper
1 tsp. Fresh cilantro, chopped
Combine frozen meatballs, tomatoes, beef broth, onions & garlic in soup pot.
Cook 15 minutes over medium-low heat.
Add Zucchini, mushrooms, salt & pepper.
Cook 15 minutes more or until vegetables are tender and meatballs are hot.
During last 5 minutes, add 1 tsp. Fresh cilantro
`````````````````````````````````````````````````` ```
Michael...Congrats on the new decade!!

Gotta run. KUTGW everyone. You guys rock!!

JUDY!! Thanks for the recipes!

(And I'm not really in a new decade. It's a Fasting Induced, Fraudulent New Decade. I'll be back up 4 or 5 by Monday, no doubt.)

But MICHAEL IS!! YAY!!

And Judy looks to be, and Laura for sure. YAY!

BUT!!!

We have some people struggling too....

I wonder about planning an extended fast for those who have hit a wall of some kind or the other. You would lose some weight, for sure. And you have a bounce afterwards. Absolutely. (And I dislike the bounce.)

But long fasts do something to the gray matter, and it is a positive thing for self discipline. Plus, if you can do a FAST 48, you can probably do a MUCH longer fast. That is because the first couple of days are the hardest. After 3 days, personally.... I no longer have much hunger AT ALL. (YMMV)

I always feel excellent, vibrant, almost superhuman....and have a clarity of mind that is always surprising. I feel like I am whipping myself into submission during a long fast, and the process makes me feel powerful in some way that is hard to explain.

And Jason Fung says you don't really lose lean muscle during a longer fast. I'm not sure, but even if he's wrong, it is still worth it for me, as long as the "cannibalism of muscle" is very minimal.

Just another option for our struggling peeps. And I can recommend it!

Me, too. I'm definitely struggling. I believe in the fast! I just hope I can stick with it for a few days when I am not prepping for a doctor to stick a camera up my wazoo.

You guys need to be prepared for (for not only the bounce...most unpleasant) misbehaving badly afterward, feeling deprived. Just eat VERRRRY lightly when breaking the fast. Also that adds to the discipline aspect.

We have so many bad habits. If you eat a lot after you'll be sick doing a serious water only fast.

You'll die without water in about 3 days. So a Jesus Christ Type 40 Day Total Fast is out.

BUT just Food?????? Not even maybe....

You've got the billions of teensy weensy tanks that store your energy topped off, and you'll be just fine....for weeks if necessary!

I always LAUGH when the hurricanes or snowstorms get crankin', the grocery store shelves empty of food in a FLASH!

Batteries? Yeah. Get some. Toilet Paper? Sure. Bottled water? Okay I guess.

But food? REEEEEALLY?!?!?! Don't be silly! Even skinny folks won't die without food for a few days. Kiddos need to eat a LOT, but they don't die over a 3 day weather imposed weekend fast either.

Yeah, I encourage fasting. I love it! (except the first few days) But even more than the few pounds of fat you will inevitably burn (what else would it be anyway? Muscle? Your body isn't that stupid...) is what it does to the area immediately above my ears.

It makes me think of Lylotte and her disappearance. Charlotte, come baaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!

Like I said Today is last day on True Water type fasting.Tea.water. No food.
I feel good.
After 3 days better But at least for me couple times I had to fight self .
The hard thing for me on fast is that I was doing detox{sauna and steam room[40 mins for sauna.And it is Hot.
So This week just walked and jogged.
That book By Jason Fung is very good read.{Get It.
Now as I come off this type of fasting>I know I still have to work back into eat. and still keep calaries low.
Book said you should after coming off fast do it on how many days u did fast and eat light.
I should Eat light for 7 days.At least That is what I got out of it.[Right Stan/.
I also know that I most likely will gain little back. But Boy will I try not to.
Plus Now that I'm very close to my goal.I might not loose as much as u all do.
So I will just keep trying and as soon as I can do another fast{ with out gaining. I will do.
Plus I want to start weight training more.
If I can u can. Just listen to body. Read up and start slow and go.
Not like me.In so many ways I hit things to hard and long.
Just want to say that If you want any thing keep heading for it. Some days are hard and some easy.
