Happy New Year Everyone, and let's make sure it really is a "happy" one!

I don't usually make specific goals because it's so hard for me to stick with them and then I feel embarassed. I always have a goal to lose weight, but I've been told that having actual goals helps you achieve them.

So my first goal is to get back into Onederland. I was bouncing before, but now I have been here permanently for a while, and I see my original start weight of 217 looming in the not so distant distance. It would really break my heart to end up back there, or even higher.

We CAN do this!

Alice and Carol - I weighed today and was pleasantly surprised that I've only gained 2.5 lbs. I will have that off in no time now that I'm back on plan. I think we all need to post regularly (daily, if possible) to keep accountable, vent, get encouraged and give encouragement to each other. What do you think about posting what we are eating every day, would that help or hinder us? Sometimes seeing what others are eating gives me meal ideas when I'm stuck in a rut. What about weigh-ins? daily, weekly, monthly?

WTG Tweaker, you did great! And, yes, I definitely need to try to check in daily when possible. I need the accountability! As for weighing, I think I'm going to weigh daily for a bit, just to keep myself on track.

Here are my current stats/goals

186.5 / 185.5 / 170

Alice - I'm weighing every day too and I will try to check in every day. We'll always have occasions when we don't post but we'll do the best we can. I'm already down 1.8, so starting out well!

Good for you girls for weighing daily! Some say it's necessary, and other say it's overkill. When I was thin, I used to weigh daily to be sure I didn't gain. I got away from it while I was gaining, and put on 80 lbs. So let that be a lesson to you all. Not weighing daily allows the weight to pile on while you're not looking. I am trying so hard to get back to daily weighing but I just can't. If the scale goes up I get so depressed and just want to go eat something. If the scale goes down, I get excited, and I don't eat, because I want to see it go down again the next day. Does that make sense?

Yesterday, when we went to the local shopping center, there was no place to park, because the lot was full with all the people who joined Planet Fitness for the new year. I remember that from when I used to go to workout center. It would be jammed in January. By March it would be back to the regular crowd.

We are not going to slack off on our good intentions. This is definately going to be our year!

Carol - I know the weighing daily is what really keeps me honest. I'm the opposite of you, if the scale goes up, I want to get back down fast so I eat clean. If the scale goes down, I'm happy that I'm closer to goal; however, I can fool myself into thinking that I can take liberties and eat what I shouldn't and not gain weight. You can guess how that works out! I feel like I'm in pretty good place right now and have my priorities straight. I really do think this is our year!

Alice - Downward on the scale is always good no matter if it's .25 or 2.5 so keep going and congrats on the .25!

I stayed the same today. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Mind if I join? I was down to 183.4 today up four pounds. I have still had no sugar or white stuff. But I have had a lot of salty foods. So, I threw them out. Hope the scale turns around!

Chrissy, good for you on throwing out the salty foods. I have a hard time throwing food away. I know this sounds stupid, but I have a tendency to finish it all up so it's no longer in the house. I have solved that by just not buying it. I had to learn my lesson on Hershey Kisses. I used to buy a big bag "for when my grandson was here." ha ha They were for me. Who was I kidding? Now I no longer buy them. He doesn't NEED them either.

Tweaker, I understand your feelings about the weight on the scale. I realize that seeing a higher number SHOULD make me determined to bring it back down, but my mind just doesn't think that way. Isn't it funny how differently people feel about things?

Hi Chrissy! Welcome to our group!! We love having new people join us. We're pretty informal here and just try to support each other!

Carol, I agree, this is our year!!
Tweaker, in my mind, staying the same is not gaining and that's a win!

I'm down another .75 I'm hoping to continue on this downward trend. I know next week will be rough - my birthday is Monday and we are going out to eat, and then I'll be out of town for a few days and that always gets me. But I'm hoping to do better on my trips this year!!

188.4. Gained four pounds since Tuesday. Diet is fine....aside from eating way too many pickles, olives and peppercini. Looking back on my app that I put calories and foods in that is all that has changed. Very mad. But hopefully tomorrow is a better weigh in. I only had 7 carbs!! TGIF

Welcome Chris! Is it Chris ir Chrissy? I would say that the weight gain is water retention from the salty foods. I think if you stop eating the pickles, olives and pepperocinis and drink lots of water, you'll drop those 4 pounds quickly. We're here to cheer you on!

Alice - congrats on the continued loss, you're on the right track! I'm wishing you a Happy Birthday now in case I forget on Monday.

Carol - I hate throwing food out too, it costs too much to put in the trash! I laughed at the Hershey's Kisses scenerio, I've bought lots of things over the years to have on hand for kids, grandkids or company and like you, I'd end up eating it myself. I've finally concluded that if they're at my house they'll eat what I have or bring what they want. It works!

Happy Saturday everyone! My weight is the same this morning, but I'm good with that! It's not a gain. And I had a few glasses of wine last night, so I wasn't sure how that would show up.

Tweaker, thanks for the birthday wish

Chris, I agree with the others, I'll bet all the salt could be the culprit.

Good morning! I had another good day yesterday. Down .25, and any loss is a good loss!

This week coming up will be a challenge, but hopefully I'll do ok!

Thank you Carol! I'm hoping to make this the year that I STAY at the weight I want. LOL

I'm down another .25 today. Slowly but surely. Hopefully I don't totally undo everything this week. Nice dinner tonight, and lunch out tomorrow. Then gone for a few days. Lunch will be easy. I can do a salad or something. But tonight, I don't think I can pass up my birthday dessert So I will do my best without totally depriving myself!

, Alice. Just keep thinking of what you've lost recently, that you don't want back, and you'll be ok. Have some of a birthday dessert but maybe don't eat the whole thing, you be in control not the dessert! Enjoy your evening!

Thank you for the Birthday wishes!! I didn't do horribly, but I didn't get on the scale today, just in case. I ate very lightly during the day, and then at dinner had some lobster bites, a bit of soup, steak and veggies - all of that was probably fairly safe. But I did have some break pudding! DH and I shared it so I didn't eat it all. But my body is not used to eating a large meal so late in the evening, so I'll wait a few days to weigh.

Tomorrow I leave for a a 3-day trip, so if you don't hear from me that's why!

Alice, I grew up on bread pudding. It was cheap to make and used up old bread. I mentioned it to DH and the name of it grossed him out, until he tasted it. Now he's a big fan!

Glad you enjoyed your birthday dinner without much damage.

It's a Chrissy. Anything you want to call me. Chris is fine, too. Just not big Bootie Hudy. Lol. Sorry Iiased a few days. I traveled to Memphis for family. Got on that scale yesterday, not my own, was at 191.2!!!! I haven't cheated. I posted in a previous thread. Anywhoo, got on same scale today and now 187! I'll know more accuracy tomorrow when I weigh in on mine!!! Yay.

Alice - that dinner sounds good! I have never cared for bread pudding, I just don't get the point of mushy bread, lol, but that's just me. I think that's one of those things that you either love it or hate it. Stay strong on your trip, you know you can do it!

Chrissy - thanks for clarifying your name for me. Good luck when you weigh yourself on your own scale, hopefully it will only go down!

I was down another .2 today, I don't expect big losses at this point because I'm close to goal; however, I'd love to see a big loss that I could work on maintaining!

Tweaker, that's exactly what DI said about the bread pudding, but once he realized there was sugar involved he sure changed his tune! LOL

It went up. Up to 191. In one day. Pitiful. Here's what I ate. Pork rinds, beef jerky, pickle, 3 oz steak, spinach and some, 2 oz of cream. I'm sure it's the salt. I was traveling on a bus so, I grabbed something quick til I came home for dinner. Hope the scale tells the truth tomorrow.

It sure sounds like it's salt related, Chrissy. Hope things turn around for you in a day or two.

Wake up! Wake up! No posts here for 2 days! Let's not let that happen. We need each other here, and need to keep coming back and being accountable to keep the weight coming off, or keep it from coming back on. Alice is on a trip and we don't want her to come back and see that we have not held down the fort in her absence. LOL

Chrissy, I rarely ever get on any scale besides my own, unless I'm forced to at the doctor's. It's always tempting, though. The little ups and down upset me too so I'm better off sticking to my own scale. I used to keep my scale in the bathroom and I found that people would come to my house and tell me my scale is wrong. Right or wrong, it tells me if I went up or down. That's all I care about. And who's to say their scale is right?

Tweaker, I have never been close to goal, except for before I started gaining. I know the losses really slow down. All the time while you're losing you have the next big drop to look forward to, and then you're at goal and maintaining isn't as exciting. Instead, you're just working toward not regaining. I have heard others who are maintaining making these comments. I never thought of it that way. I always thought being at or close to goal would just be joy, joy, joy. But those of us who are still struggling see you as someone to admire..hoping to succeed, also. We need to continue to hear of your successes to keep us on track.
