Want to lose the walker . . .

Hello all. I am not new to this site, but am not a model citizen. I have struggled with an eating disorder for years. I know this WOE works if I could just stick with it. I have gotten down to goal with this WOE once and would like to see it again. I now walk with a walker due to degenerative discs in my back and the doctors all tell me that if I would just lose the weight things would get better. You would THINK that this would keep me on the straight and narrow, but alas, it has not.

I have gone to an eating disorder clinic when I was going really strong with this WOE. I figured I would try to get help with the eating disorder while my eating was under control by eating according to this WOE. But they would not support my decision to eat this way. There are three people you see at a clinic like this: A nutritionist, an MD, and a psychologist.

The MD gave me so much guff when it came to this way of eating (she wouldn't support it) that I basically didn't want to see her again and didn't.

The nutritionist had heard that I was eating this way before I went to see her and she went on line and found all sorts of things that was against this WOE. She said it would be unethical for her to support me in this WOE and basically dismissed me.

The psychologist said time and again that he didn't know how to treat me since I was eating this way. It finally got to the point where I couldn't see any reason to go and see him anymore because he wasn't helping me in any way, shape, or form.

So where to turn to?

I'll never give up . . . I KNOW this WOE works. It has time and time again for me. I just have to stop and figure out how to continue on with an eating disorder and warped body image.

Oh my . . . I didn't know that was all going to come out . . . guess I needed to vent.

Anyway, I am starting in earnest today. I have a weight loss challenge with a guy at work and we will be going until the end of February. I figured this challenge will help me stay on track for a couple of months and hopefully it will help kick start me to stick with it this time.

Hope you all have a lovely day! Thanks for reading . . .

How long ago was it when you got such feedback from the medical community? There has been a HUGE shift in how doctors now view a controlled carbohydrate way of eating.

Not only is there support, many doctors now recommend this way of eating and not for just weight loss. They've found it highly effective in controlling diabetes, in lowering lipid levels, and for lowering blood pressure.

Thanks Delta . . .

Papajack, I just quit the eating disorder clinic last month. They definitely were not on board with this. I just didn't want the harassment anymore, so I fired them all.

I can understand where you are coming from with the walker in a way, a physiotherapist set me up with a cane over a year ago and said if I loose the weight I might not have to continue using it. I fiddled around the last year on and off hitting induction, this time I am here to stay.

Sounds like you have yourself some sound advice when you fired that group.
My docs just tell me to do what works for me and exercise.

Maybe we can form our own challenge

Hi dusk I remember you!

Yes, this woe works as long as we keep working it--and learn to love ourselves, because we deserve it.

Hi CG. Would you just like to see if we can join an existing challenge on the challenge board? Or do our own?

Weigh-in warriors? (which would include % loss challenge)
Cheat free Chica's! (we could set this for a specific time frame)
Spring's so Sweet! (challenge until March 20th, the 1st day of spring)

Anything like that sound ok?

I like spring's so sweet, and since Easter is full of sweats might be a good challenge!
