Hummus

I make my own hummus with chickpeas, garlic & tahini (sesame paste). Is the tahini okay in phase 1. Not quite sure where it would fall. Thanks for any input.

We make our own hummus, also. Tahini falls under nuts and seeds; it's fine.

Thanks, Rose. Trying to find other things to eat without shooting myself in the foot and although I am not vegetarian, all this protein is grossing me out and actually made me feel sick for the first few days. I'm thinking I just didn't eat that much to start with anyway and I shocked my body?

As for hummus, was worried the tahini would be over-the-top. I eat about 2 tablespoons of the hummus a day. Is that okay? Also, is the dash of lemon juice I use to mix the whole batch cause any problems? It doesn't have any sugar or calories, but it is technically fruit juice. Any thoughts?

It's all good! Lemon juice is allowed even on phase 1. Why don't you join us on the daily thread?

Hi!

Can I join? I am a lost soul let me tell you. I have no clue what I am doing right now. Yesterday I met with my doctor and she told me that my cholesterol is 267! Last year at this time it was 230. She really scared me and put me on medication! Said it is a silent killer. I cried.

No more low carb ~ or I can, but low fat. Lots of low fat. I can't believe I am going to learn how to eat all over again.

So ~

I am going to go and read about SB.

Marie ~
Come on in. Get yourself a book and read, read, read. SB is a little different, but it focuses of whole foods, and good carbs and good fats. It's lower in saturated fats, but has enough good fats to work right. Lots of Drs put patients on SB. It's a tested program. Dr. Agatston is a cardiologist, so he isn't a no-nothing. If you work the program by the book, you will do well. We'll help all we can. Come check in on the check in thread.

Throw it in the oven and bake it until tender. Cut in half, string it and toss it with garlic sauteed in olive oil and sprinkle with parmesan.

I know that some people use ******. I don't use anything since I have to customize everything and it's way more trouble than it's worth. I don't count anything anyway, so it's a waste of time for me. I just eat what I'm supposed to eat and all is well.

Thanks for responding Rose, it's appreciated!

I've been on SBD Ph1 for a week now and a total loss of 12 lbs! I guess I should post that elsewhere...

New to South Beach

Hello -

Just starting this diet to help with gallbladder problems - do NOT want surgery. Has anyone else tried this diet for such problems? I had read in another article where SB would be beneficial for this condition.

Thanks! Looking forward to getting started...
