Quick question..... I noticed on the original sticky that you could have Matzoh Balls.

Doesn't the Matzoh contain carbs? IN essence it is just ground up unlevened bread. Or is there another way to make them? I sure would like to know.

I've ordered the '72 book.. and am waiting.. the answer may be in there.. but until I get it if one of you have the answer that would be awesome.

Thanks

kalp,
I buy used books online all the time and I have always been happy with what I received. The description of the used book has always been right on.

What website does one go to in order to buy the book online.
I live in Canada and would like to find a copy for myself.

1972 Atkins Revolution Rolls

Hi, gang! I know someone had posted, on the 1st page, the Revolution Rolls recipe with cream cheese (3TBS), but the '72 book says to use cottage cheese. How much cottage cheese? Are we again lookin at 3 TBS?

I want to be sure I am doing the right thing because I LOVE THE REVOLUTION ROLLS!

THANKS.

Shea

Yes, the original Revolution Rolls recipe calls for 3 Tablespoons of cottage cheese. It's on page 225 of my paperback book. These would be suitable for the second week, not induction.

For those who asked about beer, it is NOT listed as part of the allowed beverages in the '72 plan.

Some people do that because they think it is necessary to keep the thread moving so it stays fresh in everyone's mind.

Frankly I never think it is necessary because if you add that thread to your *subscription* of threads then you can always go back and read it any time.

It really works - but maybe because I was in my early 20's:
...
BEVERAGES

Water (1/2 your weight in oz.)
Sugar Free Soda
Sugar Free Kool-Aid
Black Coffee and tea
Hard Liquor: (NO wine except dry vermouth, NO apricot brandy, drambouye, Southern Comfort, Liquorers)
NO regular beer
Lite Beer OK – Micholob Lite or Miller Lite
Okay, I did some converting online and if half my weight is 110 pounds, and I convert that to oz. and come up with 1700 - that's 48 litres. 48 litres of water a day???

Ohhh, no wait, as I'm writing this I think I get it... half your weight in oz, period. so 110 oz. of water a day. Not 110 pounds of water a day, hahahaha. I hope!

The matzoh ball soup is a recipe in the book. The balls are made of egg, chicken fat, crushed pork rinds, and hot chicken broth.

Cheryl, when I dropped those 40# rather quickly a few years back on low-carb, I was following Dr. Vitkins (been around for a while). It is VERY similar to this diet you have listed. That is what I have been trying to do - Dr. Vitkins. But, I think I was actually following the new Atkins, and using recipes "suitable for induction", but the weight isn't dropping near as fast. I was also able to actually monitor ketosis. AND, we drank Michelob Ultra beer on the weekends. The 40# loss was to be able to wear on old favorite outfit to the Atlanta Steeplechase. At the event, I ate EVERYTHING, drank EVERYTHING. I was feeling so good about myself. I didn't get back on plan ..... and here I am today big as ever.

Have no clue if it "helps" during menopause. But, I had a hysterectomy a few years ago, and did the "Dr. Vitkins" (see above, it's very similar to what Cheryl posted). I dropped 40# pretty rapidly.

I don't think it's intended for folks who have already seen the thread, I think it is to keep it towards the top so others will see it -- in my humble opinion.

I am really surprised that Losin4good was able to get the 1972 at Coles - it is no longer sold in the stores only second hand shops carry it now.

I just wanted to say that I was mistaken about the Revolution Rolls not being suitable for induction. I forgot to look at the sample menus before I posted that. They are definitely used during the first week.

You all are too sweet! I too drank anything I wanted that was legal - Micelob lite beer, rum/diet coke/ scotch/water (NO wine or flavored brandy, etc.) I ate as much as I wanted as often as I wanted and the weight just fell off of me. The problem was in maintenance adding back the junk. That is what I did - and the doc told me to keep my carbs around 20-30 - adding back in 5 grams per day and if I started to gain to cut back..... Did I listen to him - NO! He was right!

Hi everyone.
I am on my fourth day of induction. and so far doing well.. Although I record all my food at ******, some of its still very confusing.I hoping to see results with this diet, it seems that everyone I read about has lost some weight to some degree.. When do you really start seeing results?? Also I tried those ketone strips.. and they are always a trace or so lat eat night early morning.. and by evening yesterday they were a dark purple.. why does this flexuate at night mainly? I don't eat anything with carbs before bed.. Is it perhaps because I am not active in the ev enings that it tapers out?Would love to hear some more opinions on how this diet works for you guys and the ktone question.. I am easily discouraged....

It will fluctuate daily. Pick once a day to test - I do it right before I go to bed. On the days I am NOT eating carbs it is dark purple - and if I have slipped and consumed carbs - that is when I get the negative reading or a slight pink. It is is not darker you've been naughty. What ketosis means is you are burning your fat for energy - and normally if you are consuming carbs (sugar) your body burns that for energy and never gets a chance at the fat.

I have ate the low carb way before but I have a question...it seems that most people lost but then gain wt back a lot. A lot of the posts mention this. Is it very tough to maintain on this diet because I want a lifestyle change to stop the yo yo effect.

Thanks so much for explaining that to me! Today I havent had it turn purple,so perhaps I hate to much yesterday (carbs). I goofed this morning and didn't realize when I had bacon that it was cured w/ sugar. So hopefully those pieces don't offset me too much. I' ll remember next time. Today is day four and I am quite proud I have made it this far!!!:P Anyhow Thanks again, and will talk with you all later
