Hi-Lo Cereal

I got Hi-Lo cereal in my last netrition order.
I tried it out today, thinking that eating low carb cereal would be an easy breakfast.

I have to tell you, this stuff was hard to choke down. It's very sweet and I poured unsweetened almond milk over it, but the taste isn't wonderful, not even close. To best describe it, it reminded me of bran and I never liked bran.

I guess I'll see what else I might be able to use it for cuz I sure don't want to have to eat that for breakfast.

LCBC Fettucine Noodles

Low Carb Bread Company Fettucine Noodles:

I cooked these according to package directions.

They had no flavor and no texture at all.

If you didn't see them, you wouldn't know they were even there.

I'm on the fence about these. I used them in spaghetti.

I don't know if I should order another package and cook it less or just forget about these all together.

LCBC Cinnamon Pretzel

LCBC Cinnamon Pretzel:

I found it texturally great, but not much for cinnamon flavor.

I toasted it up and put butter on it and had it for breakfast today.

Might be a bit pricey at $3.95 each, but I will order some more.

I always really liked the tofu-shiratake noodles but haven't seen them here.
I do find the edamame spaghetti acceptable and it's 10 net carb/serving.

I bought a Ronco "Chiptastic" microwave chip maker on Amazon - it's great!

I mostly use it to make tortilla chips out of no-oil-added tortillas. I cut up a stack of six tortillas into six triangles and load up the Chiptastic. In five minutes they're done - very crunchy. I've made potato chips several times too. I have not tried it with a low-carb tortilla. Next I want to try it with zucchini.

Cool beans, penguinpower.

I have a similar one, not a Ronco, but some other brand and its still in the box, been in the cabinet for years and I'm ashamed to say that I never even tried it out.
Now you have inspired me to do so. Thank you.

I bought a bag of these at the Grocery Outlet; Eat Happy Chicpea Lentille Cheeze Puffs.
They are shaped like the puffy Cheetos.

They are really good and just a few is pretty satisfying.

Vegan.

I already went back for another bag so, yes, I'd buy them again.

Laughing Cow Cheese Dippers

Laughing Cow Cheese Dippers:

I got the swiss, basically tasteless. I guess its fun to eat the little breadsticks.

Too bad they didn't have cheddar or jalepeno jack.

Overpriced at $4 for 5pks, but I had a $1 coupon, so that helped.

8 carbs, so not a great deal, but they will tide you over if you are out of low carb snacks.

Premier Protein

Premier Protein - Chocolate 11oz

2 net carbs
30 grams protein

These come 12 in a box and I got them at Sam's for $18.98, which does sound pricey compared to mixing them up yourself, but they sure are handy to have in the fridge.

I did a lot of walking/shopping yesterday in SA, managed to get into 6 stores and that's a record, even for me. I was getting tired after store #5, so I downed one of these and I felt instantly revived.

They also had vanilla, but I only got the chocolate. They were priced at $1198 in the store, but rang up as $18.98. Figures, but I got over it.

They taste a lot like chocolate almond milk.

I absolutely know I need more protein daily after having these a couple of times and feeling so much better and refreshed.

A new product I absolutely love: WARNING, very pricey!! It is the Kite Hill unsweetened plain almond milk yogurt. 1 carb per 150 g. this stuff is the bomb--I bit the bullet and paid for three of them, with my lowcarb granola makes a great and filling breakfast. Some things are just worth paying for for me.

I have not yet found unsweetened non dairy yogurt. I see the coconut milk variety but it doesn't sound good.
I hear Nancy's has soy but haven't seen it yet.
Nothing at TJ's which is surprising.

I'll look around for this brand....sounds good.

LC Foods Fresh Baked Sandwich Bread

http://www.netrition.com/lc_foods_sandwich_bread.html

LC Foods Fresh Baked Sandwich Breads

I had this package in the freezer for a couple of months and had forgotten about it and I ran out of my thin slice bread the other day so I went searching.

This is called multigrain bread and it has one net carb, so its mostly fiber.

It was soft and toasted up pretty well. It tastes pretty good, no odd aftertaste.
If you are missing sandwich bread, this will fill the bill.

Kim Pop Strawberry

Kim Pop Strawberry

I got these a couple of weeks ago just cuz they are bigger than the regular sized Kim Pops. I didn't realize that they were strawberry until I opened them up.

So I got some strawberry cream cheese and smeared it all over it.
I had to fight the boy dog to even get a bite of it...he went nuts for it.

It does taste pretty good on its own, but with the strawberry cream cheese, it felt like a dessert.

They are 4 carbs each and the cream cheese was 5 carbs for 2 T., but I only used 1 T. so it was a 6 carb dessert...and best of all, no baking required.

So next time, I have to make 2 of them, one for the boy dog and one for me. He always has to have a bite of whatever I eat, unless it has stuff he can't have in it, so I mostly try to eat stuff that he can have too.
He's not spoiled or anything like that, he just thinks he's human and if I eat, he should get to eat. Dog food doesn't count.

I have read mixed reviews so my expectations were not high. I would buy it again especially for 50 cents!
I got a couple of jars of this at the .99cent store.
It reminds me of Miracle Whip, only much better and not so sweet.
I don't mind it, but I am a die hard hellmann's regular mayo fan.

SmartCake

SmartCake

I bought all three flavors. Chocolate is the worst. It tasted like cardboard air and not even a hint of chocolate flavor in it. I only ate half of that one.

Coconut, pretty flavorless also, but better than chocolate.

Cinnamon would be the best of the worst. It tasted like cinnamon.

None of these are worth the $2.99 price. Make your own, folks.

Thanks Nigel. I am not familiar with those products. Are they items you get online?

I like the mayo enough to buy it again if it's cheap (I think this was cheap because they changed the label), but I don't use much mayo so could use regular. The hub hasn't even noticed that this jar is vegan but he would notice if it was Miracle Whip which we find disgusting.

I ordered the LC bread and the SmartCakes from Netrition.
The smartcakes are made by the Smart Bun folks.

The Kim Pop, I got at the central market HEB.

The mayo, at the .99 cent store in San Antonio.
They have it here, but its over $3 each. I only got it cuz it was a buck.

The first Kim Pops I got, I ordered online from Jet. That's a funny place, they seem to only have things once and then they have different things.
I got a deal for 15% off my order and free shipping over $30 or $35 and its not very hard to spend that on food. I got that deal for my first 3 orders, so that's basically what I did. I got new stuff to try and some dog treats, etc. I just bought a couple of things like canned tomatoes to get up to the $ amount for free shipping, ya know stuff I would just buy here anyway.
I was thinking about getting my wife to sign up and do the deal again, but they haven't had much lately that I would order. Maybe next year.

The Vegan Conversation blogger reviewed holiday roasts and TJ's got high marks. Field roast was at the top but not all the Field Roasts..just the regular hunk.

Everyone seems to like Gardien but they are discontinuing a bunch of stuff so we'll see.

Grocery Outlet had Beyond Beef chili bowls for 1.99 so I bought one. Haven't tried it yet but everyone's talking about their products.

Anyone have an opinion.

No more 'roasts' for me. TJ's was just okay. Next year I'll make seitan.

Well, I tried the Beast Burger they make last year and it was tough as leather...I couldn't even eat it. Nevermind that it didn't have any flavor. Since then, I haven't wanted to try any of their other stuff.

Please post how the chili bowl tastes after you try it.

I've been trying some of the soy/coconut yogurt and have been unimpressed so far.
Nancy's soy was disgusting and So Delicious plain was sweet....I love plain yogurt with some cinnamon and walnuts on top but the tartness is what I love.

Today the Grocery Outlet had several flavors of So Delicious coconut single serves and I was passing it by when I saw, 'unsweetened'. I thought what's the difference between plain and unsweetened.
Well the difference is <1 carb or 10 carbs for the plain.

They were two for a buck so I bought 10. Dated to Feb so no problem.

The three Natural Food stores here do not carry unsweetened so I better enjoy it while I can.

No Kite Hill here yet.
Also most of the small yogurts are fruit and sweetened.

I'm sorry you don't have kite hill--it is by far my favorite. It is really pricey, but worth it to me. 1 carb per cup and high fat. I get the unsweetened kind obviously. I stock up whenever I get to whole foods.

The Beyond Meat Roasted Sweet Potato Chili was good and had a surprising kick. It was perfectly spiced.
The only complaint; The sweet potatoes could've been a little softer.

I'll keep it in mind for when we're on road trips and will buy it again for cheap at the Grocery Outlet.

Butler Foods Soy Curls

Butler Foods Soy Curls:

I have had these in the fridge for several months, so I finally decided to try them. Several people have told me how good they are.

I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about cooking dinner last night, so I just rehydrated them and sautéed a green onion and then added some to that and some mustard and bbq sauce and called it sloppy joe's. That's basically the way I like my sloppy joe's anyway. I put it on a smart bun and ate it with a knife and fork.

I had to keep reminding myself that I was not eating meat. It had the texture of meat as I remember it. I am bound and determined to get more food choices on my menu as I generally eat the same things week after week.

So I did rehydrate the entire 8oz bag, so I think I will make some stir fry out of it tomorrow and try freezing the rest. I knew it would be a lot. I just don't want to eat it for a week straight.

I always like doing the freeze test also.

I think I will learn to like it...its okay in my opinion. If I figure out the right way to spice it up, then I will be set.

Oh, I guess you answered my question in the previous thread.

Didn't we talk about soy curls last year? I seem to remember that you had some and not tried them.

I love them and they are a good lc protein.

Really you can just add them dry to whatever sauce you're using just make sure to add enough extra liquid or rehydrate them in water that has some flavoring; shoyu, spices or whatever.

I just saw a recipe for a sticky Asian cauliflower (like Kung Pao) and may do it with soycurls.

I am going to pop the whole mess in the air fryer.

Oh, and any crumbs in the bottom of the bag can go in soup, chili, pasta sauce....
