Man I have been having a hungry couple of weeks! Anyone else do that and did you find a cause? Like maybe needing more fat or something? Or maybe its just a hungry spell

I did really notice that when I don't eat fruit in a day I have sweets cravings that night! Then I am more likely to stray!

Yes, when I get hungry or tired, I need more protein.
Sometimes I forget that its necessary.

My Doc said I need to eat more protein and to eat protein in every snack which is difficult for me cuz I'd rather eat veggies.
So I am working on that and making my v8 juice daily, so now I'm going to incorporate an Isopure and almond/coconut milk smoothie every day with some strawberries or blueberries in it.

I've been doing low carb at 60 or less carbs per day, trying to gain energy.
I had a couple of high carb days last week, but I'm determined to see if it will help by staying below 60 carbs daily. It's not hard for me to do that, I just get lax and eat something readily available instead of cooking up a good meal. Tiredness does that to me, but i have to overcome that and make stuff up ahead of time.

It helps to make lc breakfast tacos and breakfast bowls which I either freeze or have in the fridge cuz breakfast seems to be the hardest meal to fix before work. Weekends are easier cuz I can take my time and make a nice omlette or some lc pancakes or waffles. It probably sounds like an excuse--but I can't seem to get up any earlier to prepare breakfast.

Sometimes I eat the MSF sausage and buns @ 15 carbs each so I limit myself to one, but it isn't that filling and it is pre-made, just heat in the microwave a couple of minutes and it's good to go.

Thanks for starting this thread. Holding myself accountable daily helps me a lot.

Do you find the low carbs make you have low energy?? It does for me and also makes me light headed.

I know part of my problem is that the last two weeks we have been renovating a bathroom and have been working every night on it so I am too tired to get up early and make my juice or pack lunch for work. Good news though I think it will be done tomorrow so back to normal.

Yes, not eating enough carbs makes me tired, but mostly not eating enough protein makes me tired. My body seems to need some carbs at certain times...I've always been this way even when I was strict low carbing.

For the breakfast bowls, I saute some onion, red bell pepper, and mushrooms up til about done, then I add in some egg beaters and shredded cheese. Once in a while, I chop up a MSF sausage patty, saute it and then add it to the egg mixture.
Then I put it all in a pyrex bowl with a lid and put in the fridge or freezer.
Often I make up several of these for the week. Then when I want one, I nuke it for 2 minutes.

For the breakfast tacos, I use LC high fiber tortillas. I forget the exact name but they have them at our Super Walmart and they have 5 net carbs in them and they are big, like the size of 2 regular tortillas, so one is plenty filling. First I wrap the taco in a hamburger paper wrap (like the restaurants use--found them at Sam's) and then I wrap in foil and put in the freezer. That way when I take one to work, I just remove the foil and nuke it in the wrapper for 2 minutes. Easy peasy for me.

Of course I have to own up to the fact that my wife taught me how to do this.

Argh! Home remodeling is exhausting!! And I am not eating well because I am just too tired or plain ol run out of time. That is adding to the sluggishness, I can also tell because my hands and feet are swollen again

Should be done in the next day or two but then the festivities begin and I will have out of town guests for the weekend! Maybe I will get some sleep next week LOL

Thanks! It will be done tomorrow! Just have to recaulk a section and put up door mouldings. Its really pretty, like right out of a magazine Its a pretty old house for this area so you know how old houses have teeny tiny bathrooms Since its so small I decided to splurge on the tile, love it!!

So any plans for Thanksgiving?? Do you go anywhere? I always have it at my house, but this year we were invited to a cousins. Its their first time in their new house so they are excited. I am all too happy to relinquish the duties!! This is my first holiday vegan but I know I will eat meat, not even gonna go into the day pretending that I wont

I'm staying home this year. My wife requested and bought a huge turkey so that is in the oven now.

I think I'll have a couple of quorn cutlets for myself.

As for the sides, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, gravy, biscuits. Not low carb today, that's for sure.

Argh! Make it stop!!! A cheat there a cheat here... I told myself I wasn't going to do that and here I am....

Wow I haven't been on here in a long time!!! Too much going on I guess!

Made a really yummy soup tonight. Not vegan but is vegetarian. Potato and corn chowder. Really good!

frozen corn
onion
diced red potato
veg stock/broth
1 block cream cheese
2 cups mont jack cheese
butter and four for a roux to thicken

cooked the onion a bit in some butter before tossing in the crock pot, used same pan for the roux. threw the rest in the crock and then after it cooked awhile I whisked it to get rid of any cream cheese chunks.

Yum!!

Yeah, I really like that potato and corn choweder, but I haven't had any in a couple of years or maybe even 3.

I hear ya about the cheat here and the cheat there, but in your defense, it is the worst time of year to stay true to a diet/woe. There is so much temptation everywhere you look.

I'm being lax for December, actually since Thanksgiving and starting back stricter low carbs Jan 2. I gotta eat my blackeyed peas on New Years. lol

Well I had to head to google and see why you had to eat black eyed peas for new years. How did I not know about that tradition before?? Thats fun, and old! Are you from the south?? Honestly I don't know anyone who eats that on New Years, maybe its just a southern thing? It also said to eat it with greens and cornbread....so go on and do that too!

We moved my MIL today ....I am beat! My feet are killin me! I will be on my feet all day tomorrow too, making cookies with my daughters all day. We make tons, I send them with my husband to his work.

I live in Texas, but I was born in Arizona...been here off and on since I was 4.

I did live in Georgia for 2 years, but we have always had the blackeyed pea and cornbread tradition in Texas for as long as I can remember.

It's supposed to insure that you make lots of $$ in the coming year. I don't know how it all got started but I keep the tradition just cuz we can all use extra money throughout the year. Hey, and I really like blackeyed peas and real cornbread too.

Heck ya we can!!! I sure know I can spend it!

I have some family in AZ, been there only once. Never been to TX. I was only 12 when we went so I don't remember much, well except the awful heat and not a stitch of grass. And seemed like everyone had fortress grade walls around their backyard, so I thought that was odd. I suppose it is to keep out wild creatures? We drove from MI to CA and hit the family we had in AZ on the way to CA. It was the most awful drive! One my sister and I were bored out of our minds but 2, my Dad had not told my Mom he started smoking again after he was lying that he had quit. Needless to say he was unbearable! Took about 3 days and near divorce till he fessed up.

Going to brave the grocery store tonight for Christmas dinner stuff. wish me luck!!! My husband invited a few folks over for dinner that had nothing going on so I need to get a few more things.

I don't remember did you say you had kids? Do you have a lot going on for the Holidays?

I did not read the whole thread.

Just wondered how you were doing lotus33? I followed the 100 days raw....
that was cool.

Are you still doing that?

I too am in TX. And I will be having black eyed peas on New Years Day.

Just a fun fact. LOL

Hi!
Thanks for stopping by!

No not doing raw. I will revisit that in the spring. I found eating cold food all the time during the winter was not working out so well. Plus in Michigan you only have a small amount of time where the veg is good and not terrible on the wallet! I actually have been nowhere close to on plan for about a month. On the 2nd it will all be back though!

I survived the weekend house guests with a 9 mo old baby! I am worn out though!

Did some more baking today for some last minute gift baskets. Cookies, chex mix, and caramel corn.

Then just cleaned all the rest of the day. Have to go back to work tomorrow so trying to get some stuff done today. Dropped 2 of the dogs off for baths and nails yesterday. Hubby just came home with them......holy excitement in my house right now going to cuddle on the couch with them after they settle down and head over to pinterest to get some fun new recipes for the restart on the 2nd!

Thanks for the reply lotus33.

I've been off any type of diet this holiday season. Totally understand.

When you do start back, what do you plan to follow?

I like cooked veggies too..... love soups.

Anyway, thanks

Oh I will go back to my juicing in the morning. I really felt best on that. My favorite is carrot and pineapple. Thats not terribly expensive. Salad and fruit for lunch, and cooked veg for dinner. Maybe potato and grains a couple times a week also.

How about you? What do you try to do when your being good

Heck if I know!! Ha that IS my problem. I was a vegetarian for several years, but I did not make good choices. I don't really feel well on the fat content of LC, and I've never been much of a meat eater. I'm always searching for something - some diet plan that will fit my needs. AND still make me feel full.

Maybe it's not out there! No such thing?? Anyway, I'm older and I know I need to cut the sugar and just eat better. I will be reading your journey and cheering you on.

S&P!! I guess that is all our problems huh!

I think for me that I never feel satisfied eating crap food. I feel full and gross but wanting. But...when I was juicing and eating good whole foods I felt good, satisfied. Like really my body was fed and it is a different feeling. Maybe its in my head but who cares if it is! It works, just need to stick with it!

Oh yeah......being healthy takes some planning!

I will be menu planning tonight! I am out of any sort of food that resembles anything healthy at all!

I am considering joining our community center too. They have free registration on the 6th. The whole family can go there. Its just you have to sign up for a year and the last time we tried it about 4 years ago it didn't work out so well! I am thinking on it some more. Its 87 a month for the 4 of us, which if we go is one thing but just to pay that and not use it....not too cool!

I get extra hungry sometimes. I just eat some protein with carb, like 15 grams worth. I'm a middle-of-the-roader; induction makes me hungry and too much carb makes my hypoglycemic. I'm the goldilocks of the low-carb world, I guess. 140-170 grams a day works for me.
