bitsnpieces,

Please tell us what your routine is! Which dvd(s)/book(s) are you using? How often do you do Callanetics?

It's almost the end of the month everyone! Just a few more days to get some hours in!

Sounds like you're doing great Ouida! Keep it up!

Thanks for the tips! Do you do this just with Evo, or do you do it with 10 in 10 and SuperC?
Oh, hey, Fit4eva!

The tips I gave were for Gidget, because she was having trouble with her hips. So they are for anyone who is beginning any new Callanetics move. I know, when I first started incorporating Super moves, I had to start off doing some of them with only 15 pulses and work my way up (Super's intense).

Too, I should state here, even Callan herself said Super was not made to be a program by itself, but to provide more indepth moves to incorporate, so you can switch it up and pick and choose what you want out of a number of moves for each body part. Some can outright replace 10/10 moves, others need to be added. But I like to listen to my body, so if I'm not feeling strong one day, or I can feel I need to be gentle with myself, I'll do the 10/10 version.

Hope that makes sense?

Hi, J. B. I started Callanetics with classes, and took it up again a few years later by just doing what I remembered from the classes. Later, I ran across video-tapes and books at thrift stores, library book stores, etc. I bought three DVDs: Evolution, Super, and The Secrets of Callanetics. (I bought Cardio Callanetics, too, but gave it away.)

I mix and match as I wish. I modify every exercise and put rests and stretches into my daily protocol as I need. I also put in very simple yoga poses, to balance the exertion exercises and deep stretching in any direction. For example, if I have arched my back, then I follow that with curling forward, perhaps resting in what is called in yoga, child's pose. I love Ten in Ten, and incorporate the Callanetics Concepts into those exercises, or anything else I am doing, when I remember. If someone is brand new, I think a combination of Ten in Ten, Beginning or AM/PM, and, Evolution would cover the spectrum.

Best wishes, everyone, for lovely Callanetics experiences.

I'm joining the thread too. I'm currently on my 5th hour of Callanetics. I did it a few years ago but gave up after 10 hours (I was expecting a more drastic change). I also don't think I was doing it right. I have the 10 in 10 book and the video and I've been going 2 times a week.

It's the first of December! What are your goals this month? How many hours with Callan are you wanted to spend?

This is an extra busy month for me, so I'm going to say 2 hours per week i.e. 8 hours, and if I do more, then bonus!

AmyLiz to the thread!

susanw53 and I were discussing how sometimes the results don't happen so quickly a year or so ago. We came to the conclusion that it's very different to do this on your own and slowly have "aha!" moments of understanding all the subtle nuances than to have a knowledgeable instructor there right in front of you, giving you pointers with every pulse.

Give it time. I'd say 30 sessions and things will become more visible for you. Try taking pictures (I wish I had), and definitely take measurements all over your body - these are the big story tellers!

Also keep in mind, in 10 sessions you've not accomplished nothing. Those small muscles close to your bones are developing, and that's not as visually obvious as the larger muscles. Where it's apparent is the "feeling taller", the moments of strength or endurance in other movements and activities, the good night's sleep, and all the other benefits you'll get from doing Callanetics.

Keep us posted and let us know how you're doing! Adn don't hesitate if you have any questions. Someone here will have had some experience in what you're dealign with.

I do have a question about those side bends in the warm up. Does anyone else get tingling and numbness in the arm that's raised? Around count 40, I feel like it's "falling asleep." I usually switch sides when this happens and come back to it, but what's going on there?

Hi Amy, totally normal. This is just a reflection of the state of your circulation at the moment. Just keep doing what your doing, allow yourself to increase the time as your body allows, and make sure you're doing it equally on each side. So if you switch at 40, then switch at 40 on both sides etc..

Eventually, your circulation of both your blood vessels and your lymphatic system will improve and your arm will no longer have that feeling.

Hi
I hope it's ok to join the thread? I've just completed my 10/10 last month the tummy is frightening still though ).
I was just wondering though - does anyone know if Callanetics affects lymphatic drainage? I've been feeling nauseas, headachey, absolutely drained since I started. I read on a posting someone had done about something called TTapp (?) which is meant to be similar, that this was a result of isometric exercise?

Hey everyone!

Welcome all newbies! Keep on pulsing and join us in our quest of improved health and tighter tussles.

Sorry for the delays in replying. I had a last minute job opportunity and so it has been hectic since my last update. I have done no Callanetics this week, but I managed about 2 sessions in the previous week. I should be able to start from Monday again. I will only be doing 10/10 for a long time, though, as I won't have the time to do Super C at this stage. However, as soon as I feel as though I can tackle it - I will put on the thinking cap and find a way to do it. Hopefully.

@G&B
I'm not an expect on that subject, but I did experience something similar when I started to seriously do Callanetics. I "think" that Callanetics improves circulation, and as a result, you go through a detox. However, other people know far more than I do regarding this and would be able to give you a more informed answer.

Hi fit4eva,
Thank you so much for this. I had done Callanetics before, but not in such a concentrated manner whilst doing the exercises and didn't have any negative effects. So it's interesting you said when you started to seriously do Callanetics you had a similar reaction. It does feel like a detox - Callanetics does help with cellulite after all!
I've just done my second session this month - determined to have done 20 in all by Christmas (as in with the last month's ten, only ten this month )

You go, girl!

Yeah. I haven't done it properly for about 2 weeks now, and i know that I will have a bit of an adjustment again. Whenever I do it properly, I go through that.

Goal for December

Hi everyone!

Just checking back in.

I had a cold towards the end of November, so I slacked off a bit, but I'm getting back on track now. Sticking with my previous goal of 20 "Quick Callanetics" sessions (rotating between all three) and 8 Ballet Beautiful Classic 60-minute Workouts.

Even though I've been breaking down the Callanetics into 20-minute chunks, it's STILL WORKING! Friday night, I had a riding lesson with our male instructor (the one who rarely gives out compliments) and he was practically GUSHING over how much stronger I've become.

I wish more people would open their minds to Callanetics. It can be adapted to fit just about any schedule or workout goal and it's SO worth it!

Checking in and still going. I can tell I'm getting stronger, things are getting easier. I've also noticed a weird shift. Oddly, I have a fatty patch just under my armpit (you know, spilling over the bra), but only on ONE side. The other underarm area is fine.

So I guess my question is: a) am I doing something wrong, b) should I work the flabby side more, or just keep going evenly?

Hi Amy,

Are you doing the 10 in 10 video by chance? The reason I ask is after a while I began to notice the on-screen counter is REALLY uneven in a lot of places. When I was doing it, I would switch the side I began on each time and my results started "evening out."

It's funny, but even with the Quick series she often spends more time on one side than the other. I've gotten to where I just ignore the screen altogether and keep my own count going in my head.

I hope that's helpful.

I have been doing 10 in 10, but I almost never followed the counters. After the first few hours, I just do it from memory now.

Welcome G&B!

Callanetics definitely works the lymphatic system. It works and strengthens everything (muscles, blood vessels, lymphatic system) close to the bones and works its way out. I can't say I experienced what you have, but we are all different in what we're trying to heal.

AmyLiz, the key to any exercise is to work each side as equally as possible. You might want to start on you weaker side, and let what you are able to do in a relaxed and controlled fashion dictate the rhythm and number of pulses you do.

On thing I noticed when I continued to listen to the video even, after I thought i knew the moves, is each time I became better at what I was doing, I would hear information I didn't hear before. And so I adjusted for this new information only to have it happen again. I think I had done about 100 or more hours of Callanetics before I actually heard everything she Callan says in 10/10. Something to think about....

Glad you're all doing so well!!!

This is SO true. I still think she gives the best pointers in 10 in 10, which is why I think everyone should start there before expanding/moving up.

Even when doing her other videos, I definitely keep my ears tuned into Callan's voice the whole time. If I didn't, my shoulders would stay up around my ears for the entire workout! LOL!

Thank you for this jigglebuster, it's good to know .

I've just finished another session - 3rd for the month. I did Callanetics evolution stomach and combined that with normal 10/10 stomach. Don't know whether I really feel it - I often can only tell the next day. Everything else I'm doing 10/10. Desperately trying to finish 10 more sessions before xmas.

Just finished my 4th, but only the stomach. I didn't have time for anything else and this is my problem area. I'll do the rest tomorrow when I've more time
