2016 Whole 30 Challenge

My family and I will begin our second round on Jan. 4th. Any one else up for the challenge?

The Whole 30 is basically eating a whole food diet that eliminates grains, legumes, dairy, dairy, sugar, alcohol and soy. The information is all found free online and the program is very life changing.

My husband, 24 year old daughter and I all did it together for 45 days this past November. The health benefits were numerous including better sleep, reduced inflammation, more energy, less digestive issues and weight loss.

I lost 12 lbs in 45 days with perimenopause so that's huge! 24 year old already slim DD lost 10 lbs and DH lost 23 lbs. Incredible!

I'd love some LCF company in 2016!

Two books that give a ton of information are It Starts with Food and The Whole 30. You don't need the books to start though because you can get the information online if you do a search. I've found the books/recipes to be helpful though!

Hi Keri,
I am in! I had already decided to start the 4th, so we'll be buddies.
I'm hoping to do a Whole(the rest of my life)!
I've done the Whole30 twice and each time I felt so great after a couple of weeks.
We've been renovating our kitchen for about 6 weeks now so have been eating way too much processed food so this will give me a great boost.

I have been doing LC, on and off, since 1996. The ONLY time I've lost a LOT has been eating vlc, but the ONLY times I've gained it back quick + more has been after vlc. So from now on, it's old school LC all the way!

Yay Agee and Sarahatl! So glad to have some buddies.

I too would like to do a Whole (rest of my life)! I can honestly say that the health benefits for me are actually outweighing the weight loss for the first time in my life. Although I would not turn down losing 30 lbs.

Vicki, that's on my list to purchase. I have Michelle Tam's Nom Nom Paleo: Food For Humans and love it. It might be the best cookbook I've ever owned. And I own a lot. Too many a lot.

Right. I'm not weighing before or "after" - although like I said, I'm hoping for a "forever." I might take pictures, though, since I've never done that before and I would love to see the difference.
I'm excited!
We are traveling for a little less than a week then coming home and I am ON it. Even w/o a finished kitchen . Will just take more prep, right? Although I can't wait for a huge pan of roasted brussels sprouts.

Brussel sprouts will NOT be on my menu. My mother made me eat them as a kid and I couldn't leave the table until they were gone. I threw them up. Not a pretty picture and nothing I care to eat again. Sorry for the visual.

We have a small bit of travel in January but we did it in Nov. for two days. We plan a week long vacation in Feb. so we may be off plan then.

I am not a brussel sprouts but DH is so i still make them and gag them down. lol.

I think you've not had them cooked properly. My mom used to steam them when I was a kid and I hated them. But pan roasted to caramelization with some red onion and walnuts? OMG. So good.
Anyway, they're hard to cook right with just a microwave and toaster oven!

Roast them babies in the oven w/ some oil and red pepper flakes! Oh yeah!!

I want to wish you all an awesome W30. I am doing LCHFModC/ Atkins-style. I was Primal/paleo/clean and really want to get back to that. But I found I could not handle the available carbs and do better right now when I drop my carbs lower.

I have been very curious as to whether dairy is having a negative effect on me, but once I resumed heavy cream and cheese I have not had the strength to let them go.

Enter the work friends. 4 of us did a W30 together back in April. It was a great experience. We learned a lot from each other, swapped recipes, and shared a lot of support. Some parts of it stuck for all of us, and I can see all our habits migrating to healthier choices. So.... When the subject of doing it again inJan came up, I decided to join them.

I will be continuing my WOE, within the guidelines of W30. No dairy, no AS, etc. I do plan to keep Journaling my food, exercise, and weighing my body. I completely appreciate the W30 guidelines about these matters, but I am intently focused on my goals for wt loss and these are the strategies that keep me on track.

I wouldn't feel that I was completely adhering to the W30 plan, so will cheer u all on from the sidelines. I will visit u on occasion as I know some awesome recipe talk will be happening here!

I'm getting my head back in the game and got on the scale just to see what I gained since my last Whole45........about 4 lbs. Not great but I can live with it.

Thanks so much Keri!

Tomorrow is day to make ghee, and portion out some coconut milk in ice cube trays for dropping into tea and coffee.

BTW, if anyone is interested in decreasing their coffee/caffeine, coconut milk in roiboos (red bush) chai tea is AMAZING!

Hey Val, today is my day to make Ghee and Almond milk!

This morning I made a sweet potato, onion and spinach hash with two poached eggs. Was not totally compliant because I had some packaged hollandaise on it to use up. There is a compliant hollandaise that I plan to make with this though. We start Monday but I'm already kind of getting back at it.

Potato, Mushroom, Chorizo Hash with Poached Eggs and Hollandaise

Both of these dishes could be compliant with better Hollandaise and just make sure your chorizo is sugar free or pick another compliant sausage.

Good Morning! So happy to find others doing a Whole30! I started on 01/01, and am trying to stay on plan for 60 days or more- going on vacation in March and most of our meals will be buffets at WDW and while I can still easily avoid grains/dairy/legumes, I know I won't be able to remain 100%
This is my 2nd whole30, my first was in August 2014.

Welcome mickeyschickie!

Today will be a prep day for me. Tomorrow begin's Day 1 for my DH, DD and I.

I will make almond milk, clarified butter, bone broth, Crispy chicken thighs and Nom Nom Paleo's Kalua Pig today. Thank goodness for my Instant Pot.

I also got on the scale this morning and managed to gain 4.5 lbs since Dec. 17. Yikes.

The Eggs Benedict looked yummy. I have cleaned and chopped veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, grape tomatoes, mini peppers, green onions and cabbage) and already have a huge bowl of tossed salad made up. Getting ready.

Hey - finally returning to this thread. We went out of town and were BUSY!
About roasting brussels sprouts - I roast until they are done! Maybe at 350? I'm not a recipe cooking person. Sorry!
I am not starting Whole30 today
We still don't have a kitchen and trying to be perfect will give me too much stress. That said, I am off sugar and grains and dairy starting today. I'll have to work w/in that parameter until I can do a for-reals Whole30, which will hopefully start next week. I'm with y'all in spirit if not actual perfection.

Keri, your food sounds amazing! Loved poached eggs on top of greens and other things!

I'm off to a good start, but will def have to get cooking.

Made big batch of cauliflower rice w/ compliant Indian spices and had that w/ a burger for lunch. Fasting for dinner tonight.

Happy, that sounds great. I am going to make cauliflower rice in my new food processor this week!

Today's menu:

Scrambled eggs in ghee with spinach
Kalua pig and some sort of veggie
Not sure about dinner just yet because I'm hitting the grocery store today.

Hello! I'm on day 5 of the Whole 30. Have had a headache the last couple days, but I'm also having my TOM (might as well get it all out of the way.) The hardest thing by far: not using cream in my coffee!! Which is getting me to drink more tea, so it's good.

I can't love black coffee so I make my own almond milk.......and I also drink a lot of clear herbal tea.
