Hello, TM Buddies! Great job - glad to see your posts! Keep up the good work! Thanks for the well wishes!

Since I last posted, I still experienced gas pains in my tummy. Yesterday, none - today, a little. I spoke with a dear close friend of mine who suggested that I add probiotics to my body - so, I purchased Yogurt + Probiotic Gummies from CVS. I am not a "gummy" person, but they taste good. What matters is if they are good FOR you. I spoke with a pharmacist and he recommended them highly.

I have an appointment with my gastroenterologist next month as I am due a colonoscopy - so, I will speak with him about my situation of the stomach as well.

This morning, I managed to walk 16 mins, 1.0 mile @ 3.8 mph, 153 cals. Got to get back to my workout routine. I hope that I can walk another 16 mins. more later today to make that a 2 mile walk. I had gained at least 5 lbs. while sedentary...got to get it off (anything else is a plus). It's so easy for me to gain weight with a few days; I wish I'd lose it that fast!

Preparing for next Sunday's Superbowl party - will have a lot of eats - need lighter eats for me though.

Having Miralax in my peppermint tea - hope that will help me settle the tummy rumbling at least and drinking plenty of water.

Will check back later - have a great day!

Sorry the tummy issues are still giving you problems Del. I hope the politics help. Glad to know you will be seeing a specialist soon.

Nice work Linda!

The Zumba teacher didn't turn up so we had a BLT class. Not my favourite.

Hey y'all I'm new to this thread. I've been on the Century Club thread a lot. I work out on the TM do you mind if I join? I have been eating LC for almost a year now and have lost almost 60lbs. I started out at 216 and now I am at 157.6. My goal is to get to 150 and then try for 140. I also have a goal to run a 5k. I hope y'all don't mind me crashing your thread.

Welcome tamigirl,
I have slacked this week. I did my 2 miles yesterday at 3.8 mph for 32:33 minutes and walked a total of 11,020 steps between it and work. Monday I did 2.01 mph in 32:00 and burned 181 calories. I skipped Tuesday. I should get my 2 miles in tonight after work.

Tami!!! There's always room for one more TM Buddy! So glad to see you and read your post! Congrats on your weight loss!

Great job, Cindy, Sara, Linda! It feels so good to have the support that leads to healthy successes! Keep up the good work!

Okay, here's the deal...the tummy is feeling better - it seems as if the probiotics are working. I feel much better.

Yesterday, I walked for 32 mins, 2.02 miles, 307 cals. So, that's an improvement!

I have a few diaper cake orders to get out today, so I will walk in 15 mins. increments several times today in between working. Seems like a lot of people are planning baby showers for this month and February. Will check back later.

Have a great day, TM Buddies!

I'm back...while on the TM a few minutes ago, instead of walking 15 mins for the 1st increment, I stayed on for 32:03 mins, 2.02 miles, 3.07 cals.! Woo hoo! That felt good - now, got to get to work!

Will check back later.

Did my pedaling tonight....30 minutes and 7.68 miles. I did some experimenting with the level of intensity. Settled on level 6 although I did do level 7 for about 5 minutes. Level 6 is best for a while.

I set up an appt. for a physical therapy consultation to see what I can do to strengthen my legs in addition to pedaling. I'm sure there will be exercises and stretches.

Kind,

I always feel so good after my workouts ! Sometimes when I'm on the treadmill I get so pumped like I'm doing it... I'm getting it done ... I'm on my way to a healthier me.

I try to mix my workouts up (to keep my body guessing and not get use to any one particular exercise too long).

Keep up the good work ... you are doing great.

Hi everyone I'm a newbie to this thread, I'm 63 with back issues but , I hope to become a gym rat ! I have a PT. now with a gym membership ( very expensive)) so I can't waste my money . Got to make the most of these tools. I have a 45 yr class reunion coming up this year ,yes I am vain I want to look fabulous!! I know it's not all about the looks on the outside that matters but, how healthy we are on the inside .With that being said , I still have that as a good motivational tool. My eating is ok but, my exercising is poor , not very consistent. Hence my getting some treadmill buddies!! My goal is a 50 lb. Weight loss so I'm in this for the long haul

Hi all! Wondered if I could hop in and pick your brains for some advice. I'm looking at starting to walk regularly as a way of easing into a workout routine again, and treadmill seems to be the way to go. I hate walking in circles on a track, which is my other option - and if I hate it, I won't do it!

Anyway, all the "beginner" workouts I'm finding online look like they'll be way too hard for me right now. I know I can't handle any of this "raise the incline and powerwalk/jog for two minutes" stuff lol.

I weigh about 310, have a bad ankle and bad knee on the same leg and back issues, some minor breathing issues if I push too hard too fast. I do have good shoes and workout clothes/braces/etc. I used to dance, so I'm not unfamiliar with being active and working out. I'm just way out of practice and don't really know how to adjust the things I used to do for my fitness level now.

Any thoughts on where I should start as far as speed/incline?

Good work Kind!

Rose, I wouldn't even think of adding an incline yet. Start with a comfortable pac and slowly increase that as the weeks go by. You will know when you need to push yourself a little harder. Your object should be to move a t a pace that makes it just a little difficult to hold a conversation, but with your health issues you need to gauge it very carefully. Log all your star here and the 'experts will add their knowledge I am sure. ( I seldom use a treadmill, lol.)

I did a great Body Combat class this morning.

Lost 5 lbs in January.

Great Job Kissa on your weight loss.
You beat me by 2 lbs,{I lost 3 lbs.

Welcome Rose,Do come in here and report your day good or bad.
It helps to have helping hands.
You already did 1 hard part and that is to Start. Now to the Hardest part and that will be to stay strong and keep going. Take slow and build up when you can. Just dont burn out to fast or get hurt.
I see you have not really started a diet plan?
I just eat healthier foods and No junk and No breads ect. except Subway.ha
I just started Not drinking diet pop. 1 week.
I know you can and will do it. It has taken me over 2.5 years to get on the road to health..I started with Green smoothies{I call them blast.
and do some kind of weight training. to tone muscle. Muscle burns fat.
Good luck

Looks like everyone is doing great! Welcome joyful and Rose! Great group here!

Did my 30 minutes and 7 miles on level 6 on the recumbent basement bike last night. Feels so good to be pedaling again! I'm going to pick up my training stand for the outdoor bike (it's at my son's house) and get my outdoor bike set up downstairs to use in addition to the recumbent. I want to start on the treadmill and outdoor walking soon, too.

I have a PT consultation tomorrow afternoon. Not sure how much PT I'll have to do but I can only go once a week or every other week because I have a high co-pay. I won't add anything to my exercise till after the appointment.

Will be doing my basement biking tonight. Need to get a few things done around the house first.

HOT, HOT, HOT, Ladies!!! This board is on the move!!! Joyful and Rose! We love having new Buddies come on board! Everyone's doing so well!!!

Here's my stats:

Sat, 1/30 & Sun, 1/31 - rest days (had a super busy weekend, though)
Mon, 2/1 - 48 mins, 3.04 miles, 460 cals.

Rose, reading your post, I definitely agree with Cindy - not to start with an incline yet. It has taken me quite some time to build up with walking on the TM. I used to walk at high speeds until I got a back injury, now I walk at 3.8 speed (lowered from 4.0) and my incline lowered to 5.0 from 10.0. I found that my back was hurting more and constantly from the high incline, so that can irritate the back issues already looming.

Maybe you can speak with your doctor and get some suggestions that are tailored specifically for you and your back issues, to be on the safe side. But, walking is very good - exercise is very good, so literally, you are on the right track. Start off walking slowly and increase as time goes by as you're getting used to it. Maybe 1.0 to 2.0 mph. Before you know it, you'll be moving the speed up. I have even been trying the certified personal trainer speed on my TM. I can manually control the speed and incline if it automatically goes up too much for me. Hope that helps!

Have a great day, ladies and keep up the good work!

Stats: 216/171.2/130
WOE: Low Carb/Keeping it under 30
Start Date: Feb. 16, 2015
2/1-Walked 45min. burning 350 calories going 2.45 miles.
2/2-Walked/Jogged 45 min. going 2.74 miles. burning 428 calories. Jogged 2-5min. intervals at 5mph.
I'm trying to get back into running a little at a time. I pulled a ligament in my left leg a few weeks ago. I was pushing myself to run at 6mph for as long as I could and it was just too much for my short legs. It was minor, but it still bothered me so I slowed it down to just walking for a few days trying to give time for that ligament to heal. Both my calves were feeling it too. Running a little today left me feeling good but my legs felt a little iffy still so I may need to give it a little time. Anyways thanks for the welcomes. Everyone have a great Tuesday.

Excellent job, Tami! I truly understand about running (or walking) a little at a time. During Hurricane Sandy, I fell in my backyard and unbeknownst to me, that fall caused the tip of the fibular bone in my right leg to break off. I am not allowed to jump or run to avoid further injury. I walk slower than I used to even now because of back issues too, but enough to avoid overdoing it. I walk at 3.8 mph and incline at 5.0 which gives me a pretty good workout. So, if your legs are feeling a little "iffy" like you wrote, you're doing the right thing - take it one day at a time.

I managed to walk two more times today (16 mins increments) on the TM. So, my final numbers are 64 mins, 4.05 miles, 614 cals.

See you tomorrow, TM Buddies!

Time got away from me yesterday and I didn't get to do my basement biking. Today I had a physical therapy consultation. I have some exercises and stretches to do at home plus I'll be going to PT twice a week for now. I'm hoping to see lots of improvement in my walking in time for the cruise we're going on in a couple of months.

I'll be doing my basement biking in a little while. A couple of chores to get done first. I asked the therapist about my basement biking and he said to definitely continue! Yay! I'll find out about treadmilling when I go back on Thursday.
