Hi Everyone,
Just dropping in to say hi. I haven't been fasting at all. Part of the reason is that DH and I hosted a big BBQ over the weekend, and we've been eating the leftovers. Not the most healthy food. I have been keeping up with my exercise at least. I'm hoping to get back into fasting next week.

I neglected to quote, but thank you to everyone who responded back to my question, I appreciate it and understand better.

I haven't worked up to longer than 18 or 19 hours fasting mainly because I look so forward to my BPC upon breaking the fast every afternoon. I was using Crystal Lite in my water during my fasting hours but have knocked that out to just plain water after reading Fung's book. I use liquid stevia in my BPC's but it's only during my eating window.

As I mentioned, I CAN see that I'm losing inches although I don't know how much since I didn't measure. I'm in my fourth week (looser on the weekends) and still have only lost the pounds in my ticker, although I bounced back up a 1.5 lb. then back down .5. Annoying!!

Losing weight has literally been a lifelong battle for me. Low carb hasn't helped, keto hasn't helped (although I see non-scale improvements) so I must be extremely insulin resistant. I know eating keto has lowered my A1C from 5.6 to 5.4. My first cholesterol test a couple months ago showed my HDL ratios "ideal" even though my doc wanted me to start a low dose statin, of course, since my total number was 225. I said no and explained why. I'm rapidly losing faith in doctors lol.

Thanks again for the responses to my question.

Thanks Katie.

So I had a little surprise this morning. I did OMAD, lunch only, yesterday and had a bigger drop than when I have fasted completely for 36 hours. Hmmmm. It was only one day, so no big pattern or anything of course, but for years I have noticed I could eat the same amount of food and lose if I ate it all early in the day, than if I spread it out or ate it at night.

The problem I have is it is HARD for me not to eat at night. Maybe I just need practice. I'll try it again today (another catered lunch- this really is a first world problem) and maybe do a little more clothes shopping this evening.

Can you book an exercise class in an evening on a day that you want to fast? Knowing that I'm exercising means that I mostly don't want to eat anyway (either because I'll be inverting with Anti-Gravity yoga, doing something intensive, or practising kayak drills - for none of which do you want a stomach with any contents).

This is very easy for me to say because I have a lengthy commute so taking time out to attend an exercise class on a day when DH and I are fasting doesn't cause problems. And, during long summer days, it's not a problem with evening light to drop my boat in a nearby canal for a while at night.

lol Gina @ first world problem.
Ate whenever I was hungry yesterday (Stillman food), doing omad today (stillman food). Down 5 pounds in 4 days and my clothing is fitting looser.
I can keep this up for 10 more days, very encouraging!

Hi all!

I'm struggling this week. I just got back from a trip where I gained a few pounds and ate off plan a bit. Now I'm dealing with a lot of stress this week and it seems to be kicking in a ton of carb cravings - which I gave into last night (hello cinna-bun ice cream). I'm going to try to fast as long as I can to get back on track. The fasting helps me more than anything else I've found to quickly reverse those inevitable diet slip ups. Wish me luck on the scales!!! And that I wrestle the ice cream gremlins to the ground.

We have a family reunion this weekend and I want to be prepared. I'm making chicken wings, meatballs parmigiana, veggie tray, mixed nuts, salami and cheese.
I'm on a roll (I've lost 3 lbs since sunday) so I wanna stay on it!

I re-committed to OMAD and have been eating a lot of bacon and eggs. For some reason, this meal, and taco salad, never get old for me.

I also know that drinking coffee with a little c/o keeps me going all day and I don't feel hungry. Tons of water helps too. I've always been a good water drinker.

3:30pm here and I haven't ate yet. About to put on some eggs to hardboil and think of some way to make last nights chicken palatable.

Those are both wonderful ideas...I'm combining Stillman foods with OMAD the next 2 weeks though.
I found some turkey sausage in the fridge. That and hardboiled eggs sounds like a banquet. lol

This is a good idea. My gym has classes every evening. I went shopping again after work today, but I can't keep doing that every night (although I did score some bargains at the nearby outlet mall).

Hi All!

Well, this week with TOM was not my friend! I had every intention to go beyond 24 hours and see if I could do a longer fast, but no go! I managed 24 hours again, but then I had dinner as I was feeling cold and a bit weak. So this week has been 4 days of OMAD and one day of TMAD so far. I am not going to spend too much time overthinking this, it's working and maybe I am just fine doing OMAD and TMAD mixed up... I am still losing either inches or ounces, so I can't complain! Even during my TOM week I managed to keep weight stable and lose inches, which is a positive sign.

So, I am going to take it one day at a time and stop planning my fasts too much. I am a control freak and need to have a plan for everything, but with IF I have realised that I can't plan like I want or need to , LOL!

BF has mentioned that he can really see that I am losing weight and I am noticing that my cottage cheese thighs are getting smoother! I think it's most noticeable in my face, which is losing its fluffyness... My cheekbones of which I have always been proud are making their reappearance!

So this weekend I am off to meet my new niece who is a week old today, so looking forward to that. For the first time in my dieting history, I am not stressed about what I can and can't eat, what to bring just in case, etc. If there is nothing I can eat, I will just fast! This is such a freeing thought!

xxx

Hope everyone is still doing well with their fasting and seeing good results.

I've hit another plateau after losing only 4 pounds. I used to lose more than that between plateaus.

This tells me I have serious insulin resistance and with strict fasting might be able to lose only a little at a time.

I'm also up there in years, so I think that certainly plays into it as well as decades of being on various diets, mostly calorie restriction, which over time lowers one's metabolism.

Fung had a good discussion of this topic in his book.

Susan, hugs. Plateus are so hard. I experienced my first official one for a few months until last month when weight started moving again. Just keep with it. Change something up if you need to..but hang in there.

****
It's 4 pm and I just ate. Turkey and hardboiled eggs and mustard. I wasn't even hungry, but I have been working outside and feel a little faint (been getting plenty of water), so told myself I must eat.
I woke up to 239 today and it's ToM.
So that is 7 pounds in 6 days doing Stillman foods with omad & also with ToM.

I'm definitely going to add vegetables with coconut oil & eat fattier cuts of meat in 8 days when I done with 2 weeks of Stillman.
Appetite suppression with Stillman's has been phenomenal. It makes OMAD so easy.

Just got back down to my lowest by fasting every other day for a week. Felt great! Now, I'm in the middle of 3 day spa retreat with my DDs...eating on plan, but just skipping breakfast. Planning on fasting Monday, my first day back at work.

I was wondering if you guys/gals thought maybe a monthly support thread kind of like JB's have might be good for here?
This thread moves so fast I have a hard time keeping up with any one's personal stuff, and maybe this as a scientific type thread might be better? I don't know.
Not complaining..Was just wondering

Hi all. I have 8 days till vacation so happy to continue my 23 hour fast with one meal.,
Last night I made a lc pizza and had a bit of champagne with hubby.

What was so cool was he kept saying over and over, I don't know what the scale is telling you but you have really shrunk. All over! So something is happening!

Onward fasters! This stuff works

PS: Butter Bob who us my favorite has a great video about the scale. Good stuff.

Beachguy, I know a couple of years ago when I was first playing around with keto if I ate too many cals, my FBG would go up, that doesn't seem to happen if I eat higher cal, but stick to LCHF ... the insulin precedes the blood glucose, right? SO if fasting cuts the IR, then blood glucose shoud/might follow? I can't stand eating low cal.

Best, Sarah Dee, the fasting is really helpful once you catch that wave!

Gonna try for a 2-day fast this week. Started last night, so I'm looking to eat dinner on Tuesday. My sister has leftovers for me, but they'll just have to keep until tomorrow night! LOL

One of the grocery stores here sells vacuum-packed meals, and they're great for fasting, because they keep in the fridge for about 3 weeks. The ones I get are around 20-ish carbs each, so not really LC, but still much lower than what I've been eating lately.

Question for you guys who put Himalayan salt into your water - how much do you use? Is it hard to drink salty water?? I just bought some of that salt, and I know that my longer fasts don't go well unless I have some salt, but I don't fancy drinking a glass of salt water.

I drink pickle juice. I think it is extra good because it is salty and has vinegar (which is suppose to lower blood sugar).

Nice interview (podcast) on two keto dudes with Dr. Fung as guest.

It is interesting to hear him discuss the aspect of meeting people where they are and what the importance is of getting the fast to happen at all. I also enjoyed hearing his comments about Kevin Hall. Dr. Fung is so succinct! LOL!

Not sure I can drink pickle juice!

I do have a jar of pickles in my fridge, though...

I like buying sodium-free chicken bullion, then giving the Trader Joe's himalayan pink salt several twists into a cup of it. I notice that the himalayan actually isn't very "salty." It seems to take a lot more to get to the same saltiness as regular table salt.

I don't measure - I just eyeball it.
