Dropping by to say hello to my dear LCFs. I know you see me on FB, gets to be too much to keep up with but I always enjoy seeing each of you on there.
After having the mini strokes I had, the problem with the high BP, the chronic UTIs, the hernia, etc, you all know I haven't felt very well for 3-4 years. I was starting to feel pretty good last summer, then had the hernia and reflux surgery in Aug. was recovering from that and saw a urologist in Sept. who was able to stop the constant UTIs. Put me on an antibiotic, and had me start using Estrace cream 2-3 times per week. Plus I daily take the cranberry pills and the d-manoose thanks to Carolyn. When I went back after 2 weeks he said to continue with that and kept me on a low, daily dose oh an antibiotic. It was 100mg daily of trimethoprim. I felt like the surgery had really taken a lot out of me, felt really bad, very fatigued, arms and legs so heavy, it was an effort to do anything or go anywhere. Plus I developed a pain in right thigh that hurt unless I was sitting. After going to several doctors, 2 bouts of phy therapy, talking to all doctors and my pharmacist about my meds I was resigned to the fact that at 70 I just had to accept that was how I felt. About 4-6 weeks ago, my sister told me about a friend who had the same problem, she was on a UTI antibiotic and metformin and she felt it was the metformin. I didn't think so as I had been on it 8 years but that week I decided to not take that antibiotic. By the 4 day I begin to feel much better. At the end of a week I felt like what I feel someone my age should feel! My doctor is puzzled but nobody could convince me that it wasn't that med. I am so relieved to find the problem. Still have some pain in my leg but have tried everything and now acupuncture for that. Just an update.
Sandy, so sorry you have the shingles! Asked my dr for an RX for the shot but haven't checked with pharmacy yet.
Have to go pick up my reliable old Blackie, one of the back windows stopped working so a new part had to be ordered.
Hello, hello, hello until later

I thought we'd lost you!
Yes, I see you doing the hard work of posting funny cat pictures on FB, but I was so hoping you'd come back to chat.

Thank goodness you didn't give up and accept the way you felt.
Of course now I wonder whether the UTIs will stay gone since you're off the antibiotic. Hope so.

Glad Blackie got fixed up as you!

Hi Buffy!! So sorry you went through all of that!! Wow. Its so good to do the research 'on top of' what the Dr's tell you... they just don't cover all the bases & know exactly how you feel. Adverse effects are wicked... definitely not worth the risks in some cases. Wow. So glad you are feeling well again.

Well hellooooo Buffy!!! So good to see you here!! Facebook is ok, but this is like home. I'm so glad you found out what you needed to do to feel better and I certainly hope it lasts.
About that vaccine, please realize that it's only 50% effective. I've always been a glass is half full kind of gal, but this time my glass seems to have been half empty and I got the shingles even with the vaccine.

And I think a lot of us think even if we get the shingles after the vaccine that we'll have a lessened version of the shingles.
Not necessarily true!

I think of you every single day, Sandy, hoping you are better.

Hi!

Buffy, so happy to see you!! I love acupuncture. It is a very gentle way of healing...70 is the new 40!!

Bladder problems are not fun...but by taking Clairitin and avoiding coffee, I'm better.
My friends loves the d-mannose/cranberry combo too. She throws in a Clairitin, too.

Oh....Sandy hope you are better.

Today I'm home and I'll try to not eat breakfast. My body has to use this extra fat for something...

We watched a crazy show last night. Extremely funny with Henry Winkler, Terry Bradshaw, George Foreman, and William Shatner. They are traveling through Asia. So funny!!

For those of you with bladder problems....a couple of years ago when I got so sick with that UTI I was researching and read about a method to make sure your bladder is really empty. After you think you are done going lean over to the side. Actually lift one hip off the ring and then wait a few seconds. Almost always I release more urine. If you've never tried it, give it a try. I hope I never get another one of those terrible infections again!!

My Dr called me back this morning and is adding nortriptoline (sp) at night time. He said the gaba and this new med will address the ascending and descending signals in the spine and should ease the pain. I'm supposed to call him in a week and let him know how it's doing. Ugh. I just want a miracle and it be gone!!

Today I'm coloring my hair. These gray roots are really trying to take over!!! It's a never ending battle lately. I'm probably going to have to start coloring every 3 weeks instead of 4!! My hair grows really fast too!

Thanks for the bladder advice. Another lady told me to rock back and forth. I'll try your method! Hope you get some relief!!!!! Praying for a miracle!!

Oh my...my friend is trying to talk me into taking the little tuxedo kitten she found in the woods. She is her house now and I took care of her while they were gone. I told her that next time they were gone, we would take her for a few days. She is just a baby and if she lives 18 years, I would be 86.... Have to leave her in my will.

My plantar f was acting up so went to the dr.. Getting orthotics next week. He gave me 2 anti inflammatories. prednisone and something else. I was up all night with the prednisone
When I took my first dose yesterday. This is not going to work. I'll do the other one that says might make you sleepy. I'll take it before bed.

Ds and his gf and her friends went to Coldplay in Tulsa last night. I'm so out of it, I don't even know their music.

I ordered an electric pancake maker from A. My LC pancakes are a flop most of the time, so hopefully this will work. I'm also planning on using it for low carb bread pieces.

Oh so sorry about the Prednisone and your feet.
Wonder what made them flare?

ELECTRIC PANCAKE MAKER??? Since I now skip breakfast it's been forever since I made any. Now I'm going to look up electric pancake makers.

I only know the name Coldplay. Would have to search to find if I know their music. I'm out of it, too.

Is an electric pancake maker different than an electric griddle?

Prednisone might be a great drug when needed but oh wow, is it hard to get any rest with it!!
Weird story though. You all know about my granddaughter with all the health problems. She's been fed through her veins now for over a year and had been in a wheelchair most of that time as well and just showing no change. Well, she got poison ivy from one of the dogs carrying it in on their fur. She and her mom are both super allergic like that. The Dr gave her prednisone and within 3 days she was a different person!! She had energy, she was walking on her own, she was going outside, she even came to see us one day after a dr appt! With her mom of course. She looked great! When she was finished with the prednisone, within 3 days she was right back where she was. They called her main drs in Omaha and they were doubtful but let her go back on it until she went for her usual check-up. They were amazed at the difference!! So they now have her on a daily low dose and so far so good. How strange that something as simple as getting poison ivy could make such a huge difference in this girl's life when she's been across the whole USA and back to top specialists and medical centers! She's still a very sick young lady, but at least something has made her feel better and we're thankful for that!

It's called Babycakes. It makes 2-4 pancakes.

So glad your granddaughter found something that worked a miracle. Maybe this could help other kids, too.

Judy, I overstretched my foot. Breakfast for dinner is nice, too...

I'm at the lake so this will be brief...

Sandy I have wondered and wondered about your Dgd. What an amazing way to find out Prednisone absolutely could give her her life back. Sounds like answer to prayer to me. Eagerly looking forward to updates.

Carolyn when I had plantar fasciitis I think I had overstretched my feet too. I have fancy inserts I used religiously. Then over time I've been able to wean off them. But I use all kinds of inserts if I'm standing cooking or will be doing lots of walking. No cute shoes for me!

We've had such a weird summer! Nice long spring then BAM hot as blazes and stayed hot.
Now at the middle and end of August fabulous temperatures. And big rains when we usually have about none.

Cindy sounds like there is hope for precious Pooter.

Hi.

Oh, I love my Babycakes pancake maker. Works great!!

The podiatrist said that the ortho inserts would naturally stretch out the fascia so it would help it heal. No cute shoes here either.

Went to a 50 th anniversary for Shawn's parents. His dad is only 70, but slipping mentally.
He has a hernia and needs his gallbladder out, too, which might help him feel better.

Thinking of Pooter a lot. I saw where KC had so much rain.. Not good..

Better get dressed in my New Balances for church. Baby duty, so it will work with pants/capris.

Hello again maybe now that I feel better I can keep up with my "job" of posting cat pictures AND chatting
Before I forget, what does the Claritin add to the UTI regimen? See, I stay away and miss out . So far no UTIs but it does seem to be a little more sensitive. At any sign, I up the cranberry and d-m and if needed, take a little AZO. Urologist does not want me taking full dose antibiotics even if I get one since I had gotten into such a cycle. We shall see but I can certainly be trusted not to take any antibiotic now unless absolutely needed.
Cindy, I will go find Pooters thread to get caught up.
Haven't checked on the shingles vaccine price yet but seems that most people I hear that get shingles have had the vaccine? . I also hear it might decrease severity.
Judy, love your pictures from your lake house and the glimpse of your cute grands. And Bowe of course
Since I have felt so bad, and sat and sat, and ate to ease my pain , my weight has crept up, won't post a number as I don't want to anyone but at least 5-10 lbs more than my already overweight self. Now that I am feeling better I am trying to ease back into LC, the only thing that ever works and I never even stick to that but I know that is how a type 2 should eat. The first week went fine for 3 days and then the last 4 were spent running hither and yonder and the eating that goes with movies, Mexican (margaritas), etc, etc. first week loss was a big fat 0 but hey, no gain and there definitely was no pain back at it today, have nice steaks planned for dinner.
For those who like pork rinds but eat them carefully because you don't want to break a tooth, I finally found pork clouds. Very good, very light in flavor. Only Central market sells them around here but netrition has them even cheaper than their own website.
Debbie, fall is fast approaching us all and you will soon be seeing snow again, but, it is so beautiful where you are.
Neighbor is coming over to install 2 more new toilets, he and DH installed the first one a couple of weeks ago, we wanted to try one before we purchased the other 2. 2 out of our original three were leaking and the third doesn't flush right so it was time and I do like the fact that they are taller. The excitement in my shopping life, buying new toilets

Hi..

Honestly, try the plain Claritin, 24 hour non-drowsy. After a day or two the irritation was gone, never to return unless I drink coffee. My chiro suggested this. Antihistamines are in bladder meds, but this works so much better than any AZO product. You can use the cheap kind, too.

Made a quick trip to Bartlesville..wanted new foundation...ended up with Clinque. The lady wanted me to do the whole beauty routine, so she gave me $10 samples. Anyone use it??

New toilets are exciting....Akk...I need to get back on track and stop eating ice cream. right now...

Well as long as we're confessing our sins, I have eaten untold amounts of chips at the lake. I threw some away and brought some home.
My blessed blessed husband, I saw, opened the packages and threw the bare chips into the big trash in the garage. He is an excellent person.

I fasted until 5PM and had about 4 bites of steak and took my vitamins. I'll eat a real meal a little later. We have tons and tons of food we made at the lake, now home with us. Ugh. Have been giving away as much as I can...

I use a couple of Clinique products but not the foundation. Let us know how you like it and what the name is. I use their under eye corrector or line smoothing concealer, I think it's called. I use it for a lot more than underneath my eyes and it lasts all day. I might add, I have very very oily skin. Gosh I paint a pretty picture of myself!

I'm afraid to get my hopes up that Buffy might start posting a little more regularly.
(Spoiler: My hopes are up. LOL)

I'd be excited with new toilets, too, are you kidding?

I wanted to get some Elizabeth Arden, but there was a new guy who didn't know what he was doing behind the counter. He said he forgot to put his makeup on today. And he wasn't kidding.

I'll let you know....

Yes, Buffy, please stay with us.

Brett and Sarah are still dating.

Yes, they met at the First Baptist of Broken Arrow..Her dad is a pastor in a small church, but
there are no young people there, so she started coming to his church..She followed him out
in the parking lot one day..(that's what it takes sometimes)..

Slimming in September?

Our friends are downsizing, so Gary and I are housesitting tomorrow in each house while the movers move stuff in. She had a great garage sale..She went from a 3 story with an attic house to a one story with 3 bedroom house. She needs things on one floor for her hip that was replaced.
