New Year, new start?

I have to do this for my health! I would love to have some partners in this WOE. Anyone interested?

I am 68 y.o. And after a year of pain and a slew of doctors and therapies, have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and my rheumatologist and primary have convinced me that carbs are inflammation 's best friend. So no more carb eating to soothe my pain!

Losing the weight I gained would help too!

I started before the new year.

Anyone?

Janie from Galveston Bay

Hi Janie! I am not restarting but always happy to help if I can. This forum has become rather quiet so if you want to bump up the responses and general activity go to the main forum.

Hi Janie,

I'm not restarting, but I've had a few off days over the holidays and too many low carb snacks in general. I'm ready to get serious and finally take off some more weight and up the health benefits of nutrional ketosis with IF and more exercise.

Let's make 2017 a great and successful year

Hi Janie, I'm all in. Restarting AGAIN! I'm 70yrs. With no health problems. I just feel so much better when I'm in ketosis. I hate the first 72 hours. I will check in everyday and see how everyone is doing. Here's to 2017!

I'm almost through with the hardest part! I'm 48 hours in. I know enough that nutritional ketosis isn't achieved all that easily or quickly, I'm a long time LC person, and have never done the macros I need to do.

I probably do need to track!

Oh, it's good to see some old friends and new ones too!

I'm not sure I want to weigh in. . .other than at the doctor's office.

I probably need to track too, magna. I typically just count carbs, try to keep protein in check, and get enough fat for satiation. I measure fat portions when it come as HWC, butter, CO, cheese, etc.

The other thing I need to get back to is no alcohol . . . so I've started a no alcohol challenge that I'll be checking into as well.

I also need to weigh . . . but I can't face that until I am in a few more days. Denial!

First day of restart. Weighed in High, B/G High and ketones .1. No surprises here! Motivation is High. That's a good thing. I printed a few new recipes out from the diet doctor, hoping to add some interest to my dinners.

I went off my plan completely for about a week...up to yesterday, which was my birthday. Today I'm trying to get back on plan. I'd *like* to fat fast, but am allowing myself to go strict low carb if that's what I need to stay away from the junk food. Staying away from the scale, too, because I know it's bad news there. The junk food was interesting...definitely had less call on me than in the past, but I also found myself eating certain things the last 2 days just because I knew I "couldn't" eat them once I was back on plan. Most of the things did not taste as good as I thought they would, and I kind of missed eating on plan! I'm lc almost 3 years now, so I guess it's becoming my norm now. So glad! Not sure how hard it will be to stay on plan today, especially since there's still tons of junk food around.

I am relieved today that my house is clean, not of dust and clutter (sai to say), but of stuff that should never find its way into my mouth. This was the worst eating I've done for many years over Christmas, not sure why, but I sure do NOT like my expanding waist line so I am feeling good about having my house CLEAN of stuff I really needn't eat. Now I just need work a couple of days of lead time on food purchasing and menus.

I am not quite ready for a fat fast, but I am sure ready for induction-level carbs for a spell. I am out all day on car repair business, but I am carrying lunch (egg salad) so no excuses for popping into nearby restaurants (or bars! or choco store!). My treat will be coffee with my own MCT oil added to stave off hunger.

I'm good! Thanks for asking Diheart! I've skipped dinner two days in a row, so lack of hunger is happening.

Now I have a unique problem that isn't a problem, but an issue. My DH has booked a huge number of cruises this year. It's true, I can stay on plan. I've done it. But I would like the scales to move downward aboard, and exercise with fibromyalgia isn't happening yet. I can surely try the pool., it will only be able to tread water, as I'm short and the pools are deep!

So onward, starting day 4! The worst is over!

I don't see many opportunities for IF! On a cruise, ha! Key is HF!

Wow! Magnameter cruises! More than one, how wonderful! I'm almost done with day 3. I'm down a couple of pounds and the ketones are moving up slowly .3. I'm glad I bought a Precision Xtra ketone meter. It is going to help me see how far I'm in ketosis. I skipped breakfast today but have to stay busy or I want to eat just because I'm bored.

Dihawk, I think DH hopes I will not have the fibro pain if I am cruising. He is very sweet about it. I know it must be difficult for him to live with someone in daily pain, when it hasn't always been that way. It doesn't really make a difference, though. Maybe soon the new combo of medicine will make a difference. I'm surely hoping.

I haven't measured ketones. I do have the thing you blow in. . .but after 4 days, it wouldn't really measure true nutritional ketosis. . .but I'm pretty excited I can skip dinner!

You are really doing well!

Back again...

I'm getting back into LC after 8 months off last year (and a predictable weight gain). I started doing ADF in May and, following some bad advice, decided to try eating carbs again since they're so low-calorie. I lost weight over the summer, but when September rolled around and the days started getting shorter, I had no resistance for the carb monster which lives in my head. So 2016 was a total bust, weight-wise.

So I start again with HFLC induction tomorrow. Once I've got it dialed in, I may go back to ADF but this time I'm staying away from the carbs!

I'm finishing up 7 days at the end of today. Only had problems yesterday, yielded to a nut splurge. Pecans.

Of course it will take more than a week for the LC part to affect the inflammation issues I've had, but I'm surely hopeful.

And I will weigh in at the doctor tomorrow, which should be the reality check. My scales at home are unreliable, humidity and weather and someone fiddling with the adjustments All mean I could be off 3 lbs either way!

Good luck magnamater at the doctor tomorrow. I just checked ketones tonite, .6. Here I was thinking I was doing really good. Time to start tracking what I eat. Motivation is still high and less of an appetite.

Thanks for the welcome! ADF = Alternate Day Fasting (ala JUDD). I started doing it in May and lost 15 lbs. even while eating carbs, but it got harder and harder to stick to the down days while I was eating sugar. Eventually I quit doing down days altogether. I'm going to hold onto the idea and see if adding it in later helps me avoid the plateaus I've hit in the past.

So, I got through Day One of induction...Day Two is usually my hardest day, so if I can get through tomorrow without falling off the wagon I'll be set.

I found a recipe on fitlivingfoodies for really yummy white chocolate & pistachio fat bombs, which helped quell my sweet tooth tonight. I'd bought the cocoa butter early this year for another recipe which did not go so well, so I'm pleased to find a way to use it. My candy mould was much smaller than the one in the recipe, so i wound up with 18 candies. They're really satisfying, and only 3/4 carb per piece.

3 TB Cocoa Butter
3 TB Coconut Oil
3 TB Coconut Manna or coconut butter
1/8 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 packet Stevia
1 packet Splenda
1 ounce Pistachios (shelled and roughly chopped)

In a small microwave safe bowl add cacao butter, coconut oil and manna.
Place bowl in microwave for 30 seconds or until ingredients are melted, but not too hot. Add vanilla extract and sweeteners; mix well. Mixture should be somewhat runny.

Divide pistachio pieces among ice cube forms or candy trays. Top pistachio pieces with white chocolate mixture, filling them to the top.
Place ice tray in freezer for at least 20 minutes before eating. Best kept in the freezer until you're ready to serve.

Congratulations on making it through the first week! If you're going to have a nut splurge, pecans are one of the safest nuts to eat - much less triggering or inflammatory than peanuts. Have you tried turmeric for the inflammation, in addition to LC?

MerryKate, that recipe sounds wonderful!

You might want to check out the threads 'Dr. Fung fasting' in the 'other plans' forum. Very interesting information that may suit you better.

Yes, I take a lot of cucurman or turmeric every day. Thanks, I do think it is safer than NSAIDs for me.

I did weigh at the doctors, and whereas I don't like where the scales are now, I have lost 11 lbs since before Christmas, my last visit. Only 6 days keto.

So onward, or downward. I still want to put health before my vanity, but it isn't always an easy battle, for me.
