January Challenge!!!!!

Good morning all,

So today starts a new day and a new year. All for the better. Please join me.

After a hard December I weighed in and am disappointed with myself. I am excited to work this month and will be doing the Whole30/Atkins induction. I started yesterday with making some preparations. I made bone broth and planned out my menus for the week. This morning I got up and made clarified butter for my BPC and will be putting together a beef veggie soup in the crock pot for dinner.

We can do this!!!!

Weights:
Jan 1 - 178

Hi, Pam! My goals for the new year (not resolutions) are to get 10,000 steps a day and to try a new class at the gym. I'm also going to look into whole 30 -- January would be a good month for that. I try not to set goals that I'll fail at in the first week or where the goal is too far out. I like to set new goals every month.

Good morning everyone, and happy new year!

I am excited to start the new year and focus on new goals. I am pleased that after a rough holiday season, I was able to get back in control and lose a big portion of the weight I gained, which was apparently mostly water! My goal for this month is to get back to the low end of my original 128-133 maintenance range.

Prime rib is on the menu for dinner today, as is a delicious egg and bacon breakfast. Have a great day!!

January Goal: 128

Jan 1 - 132.8

Pam - thank you for getting the January Challenge started!

Casey - great goals. I too plan to get an average of 10k steps a day and definitely want to maintain my regular walking like last year!!

Casey - I know what you mean about not wanted to set a goal that I might fail at. I have tried this before and did fail, but this time I feel different. I have to do this for myself and my life. Something needs to change in my life. It's all good and glad you're here

Kelly - glad you got back on track. I looked back at Thanksgiving through Christmas and just lost it. Don't know why. I was also sick (still am) for the whole month. I do think eating healthy will help with my immune system. I am excited to be doing this. I need to do this.

Good morning everyone, and happy new year!! I'm excited for a fresh new month and fresh new year.

Pam, I hope you have an awesome month on Whole 30. You can do it!! Plan, plan, plan!

Kelly, great job on bringing home December so well! You aren't far off from your goal. Enjoy your prime rib. Yum!

Casey, my goal is 10,000 steps a day too. Do you know what class you'll take? What do you usually do at the gym?

My weight dropped another pound from yesterday, but it's probably from dehydration! I had some champagne last night. Back to it 100% today.

I'm not sure what goal to set for the month. I will say I'd like to be at 155 or less. Lower would be great too!

Just thought I would share a NSV and some inspiration. For so many years, I always did the cliche New Years resolution of losing weight. And without fail, that resolution would only last a few weeks or days before I would just give up because I wasn't ready and was unable to kick the bad habits of overeating and craving unhealthy foods. So the winter would come and go and if I thought I was in bad shape after the holidays, I would usually find that I was even worse off come spring. That's what happened in 2016, and I reached my highest weight ever in March. And I finally decided to do something about it. Not only did I do that, but unlike other past attempts at weight loss, I actually stuck with it. The holidays this year were a slight hiccup but my NSV is that I am starting off this new year at the lowest weight I've been since I was in my early 20s. And it feels amazing.

Good afternoon beauties and Happy New Year🎉🎉🎉

Super excited to start this new month and year. Thankful to be here another month and going to give it my all. I didn't do good at all last month. But the month is behind us so there is no need to dwell on it. My goal for this month is to try and get into my maintenance range and remain there. That shouldn't be too difficult . I will stay positive and work hard towards this goal.

January goal 145-149 (maintenance range)

Jan 1 152

It's great seeing you ladies and Pam thanks again for getting us started. Looking forward to new members and catching up with the old ones. Have a great day

Hello everyone - I'm ready to set some goals for January and get this year off to a great start!

#1: drink 2 liters of water every day
#2: no more than 2 diet sodas per day
#3: get below 191 pounds, which would put me past my half-way mark

Jan 1: 196.4

We had a great NYE last night - dinner out, dancing, a tiny bit of champagne and then finished off the night by going to a second party We are such non-partyers, but we did our best last night!

Happy 2017 to you all - I'm looking forward to all of us having a wonderful year together!

Kelly, thanks for sharing your story. Very inspiring!

Krista, great goals!

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Carbs were under net 20 but not perfectly induction friendly. I took a walk, which was very nice. Weight up a little today. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Krista linn - sounds like you had a great time

Well good morning,

Doing well. Day 2. I made clarified butter to use for the day with my eggs and BPC. Today I need to make mayo and ranch dressing for my salad for lunch. The good thing about doing this Whole30 is reading the labels. I can't believe what they put in foods some sugar even if it says sugar 0 there is sugar in the ingredients. Our grocery store got bought out recently and they switched out the sausage I usually buy with some other brand I don't like. Well hubby bought 3 of the new ones and I knew he would be eating them this week so I checked the ingredients. I can't have it they put sugar in it. Same goes with the pepperoni I have. I got hungry at 9 and wanted a bit of something so thought a few pieces of pepperoni would be ok, but not. Makes you think though......

Menu:
B - BPC, 2 organic eggs, green pepper, onion, salsa
L - 1 hard boiled egg (wasn't hungry)
D - Italian beef veggie soup
S - Chamomile tea, bit more veggie soup

Weights:
Jan 1 - 178
Jan 2 - 177.4

Morning, everyone! I haven't been on the boards for a few weeks - oops! I ended 2016 losing just over 26 pounds for a total so far of 55.2 over two years' time. It's been very slow, but steady for sure. I've been debating losing dairy for a while because of how it makes me feel, so I've transitioned to more of a paleo-style eating plan.

Rach - That's why I decided to do this. Over the years I have notice if I eat tons of dairy and cheese I feel awful.

Good morning everyone - last day of vacation and lots to do today. First stop is the grocery store to get some basics. Husband has triple reminded me that we do NOT need any butter today (he found 5 pounds of butter in the fridge - plus the pound in the butter dish )

I love reading everyone's goals and results from last month. It's really inspiring!

Pam - what will you be doing with the clarified butter?

Ameenah - how is the family???

Casey - which class are you thinking about trying? We have Oula (fun dancing) at our Y that looks like fun, but is at impossible times for me

Rachel - I have to watch the dairy too. Not sure if it's an allergy or just that I'm that carb sensitive. I have some but not every day.

Alene - you're doing great - don't worry about that bounce, it will work itself out soon. I personally think that LC diets have a sense of humor and try to entertain themselves by making US crazy!

I had a nice woosh last night *happy dance*

Alene and Krista - at the gym, I want to get back to water fitness class that I did last summer, and would like to try the "barre defined" class that uses ballet moves.

Rach - welcome back to the group!
Pam & Rach - I've gradually phased out dairy, too. I found a clarified butter/coconut oil blend at Walmart recently (from a discussion in the low carb main lobby, I think) and it's really good - I think it would work for the whole 30 plan. I printed out the whole30 guidelines and shopping list - it's pretty much how I eat anyway. I was surprised to see that they classify stevia as "artificial" sweetener - I'd transitioned to stevia thinking it was a good natural option. I'm going to try to avoid ALL sweeteners in January.

Krista - yes - water! I'm also adding a minimum of 100 ounces of water to my daily goals.

Good morning beauties,

Krista Sounds like you had a great time. Awesome goals and nice whoosh. Thanks for asking about my family. My daughter is still in pain but it is definitely manageable. Baby Jayden is home and improving each day. The docs said he would probably feel yucky for at least another week. My granddaughter has pink eye but has drops which are clearing it up quickly. Thankfully she is in preschool and doesn't go back until the 9th.

Alene great job staying around 20 carbs. Keep doing what you are doing and I bet you will see a nice whoosh in the next day or two.

Pam Congrats on the loss. I'm glad that you made the switch to Whole30. I bet you will have tons of success this month. I agree with you regarding different brands at different stores. It takes me forever to shop because I am always looking at all the labels. That is also what worries me when I go out to eat because you just never know how many carbs are really in the food

Rachel Nice to see you again. I too have had to cut back on dairy because it slows my losses. I now take my coffee black and I have limited the amount of cheese I eat. Cheese and nuts are both my "bad, low carb" treats because I tend to over do it and it reflects on the scale. I started buying single serving cheese sticks and peanut bags for the times when I really want them as a snack.

Casey I'm with you ladies and trying to guzzle down a minimum of 100ozs a day.

January goal 145-149 (maintenance range)

Jan 1 152
Jan 2 151

Menu:
B- coffee, 3 fried eggs, 3 slices of turkey bacon
L- Asian salad with chicken
D- sausage and cheese

Nice to see the scale move in the right direction. I had a pretty good day yesterday with my meals and it paid off. I also slept good last night since the baby was sent home and is feeling much better. I am going to stay at induction levels for the next few weeks and see how it goes. It is raining here and I have a headache so I think I will be taking it easy for the most part especially since my stepdaughter will be back tonight and school starts on Wednesday. Back to my daily grind.

Have a great day beauties and enjoy your week.

Hey everyone,

Well, old habits die hard lol. Had an on-plan day yesterday and made prime rib for dinner. But later in the evening I was craving chocolate for some reason. So I had some. Oh well, not too much damage thankfully.

I signed up for a program where I've pledged to get 2017 miles in 2017. Whether I walk or run (I'm not really much of a runner), it averages out to be about 10k-11k steps a day. I am so excited for this new challenge!

good morning lovelies and happy 2017! i miss you all dearly! great to see familiar faces still sticking to plan.

i've been out of the loop here for awhile, but hoping to finally get to my goal weight this year. because i haven't kept myself accountable, the scale shows it. the past few months have been so stressful with a brand spanking new job, holidays, etc. with the new job, i've had to change up my lifestyle a bit (i now have a short commute, can't come home for lunch everyday, and they LOVEEEE to feed us here) and i haven't quite found my groove. i've gained weight from this time last year, so it's time to get back into action and keep on it!

last week, i slowly transitioned into low carb but today is my official start date.

1/1 - 155.8
1/2 - 156.4

B - hot tea, cream, splenda
L - LC chili (ground beef, bell peppers, tomato, onion, spices, cheese)
D - eggs
W - 30 min elliptical

so here at my new work, there's a free GYM. uhhh what? so today marks the first time i'm going to give it a whirl. there's even free classes with a personal trainer, which i don't have the courage to do quite yet during lunch. there's a kitchen near my office and no restaurants convenient nearby.

i also need to keep reminding myself that it isn't just about the weight... that i'm totally unhealthy.

my game plan is still the same:
- strict extended induction, LCHF
- max 20 total carbs per day
- no cheating
- account for all food and drink
- egg fast when necessary
- try to workout
- water water water

so here's to a new lifestyle in the new year!

Kelly - I like that - 2017 miles! I'm in - ha. I had just over 20k steps on New Year's Eve, and while that doesn't count, it was a good way to end the year. I wonder if my Fitbit will tell me steps for the year and I can convert into miles.... Hmmmm. I'm looking into that. And congrats on starting the year at your lowest weight since your 20s - that's great motivation for maintaining in the new year. My starting weight is lower than last year, thanks to intermittent fasting since August (18/6 most days).

Question - do you guys count coffee and tea as water?

No - I only count plain water as water. Tea, coffee, diet pop or Crystal Light are all in addition to the 2L of water that I drink. I try to only have 2 non-water drinks per day.

My body tends to retain fluid, so I take a semi-extreme look at water drinking.

Krista linn - I use the clarified butter for my eggs and BPC in the morning.

Casey - I bought the book and found it's has a lot more information then online. The Stevia planet is natural but for the Whole30 it's not allowed. Paleo allows it, Primal allows a small amount of sugar tsp or so and or natural sweeteners like stevia, Atkin's allows faux sweeteners.

This is what the book says about Stevia Leaf:

"While it's not highly processed like it's liquid or powdery cousins, the only purpose of the stevia leaf is to sweeten something that was not already sweet. This is something we want you to avoid during your Whole30. Instead, learn to appreciate the natural flavors of your foods, and don't rely on sweet tastes to prop up sugar cravings."

Which makes sense. I normally add one stevia packet to coffee or teas, but I am not doing it for this one month of the Whole30. Just doing it by the book, except for the daily weigh in.

Ameenah - I think you deserve a rest day. Enjoy.

Kelly - no worries you will bounce back down in no time.

Casey - I have a Fitbit too and it does tell you your daily miles... Maybe you can add them all up? I'm actually curious myself at how I did in 2016.... Maybe I will do some math! The challenge I am in actually has an option to sync with Fitbit so tracking is super easy!

Casey - I added up my miles from last year on Fitbit (It shows your weekly mileage which makes it easier) and mind you I didn't start walking/working out until April, but I got 1509 miles in 2016 without even trying for a goal. Definitely doable to get 2017 in 2017, especially with starting in January this year!

Hi! I would love to join you lovely ladies for the January Challenge. I've been away for a long, long time. I had some injuries and fell of the wagon in a big way. But I restarted Induction two weeks ago and am already down 5lbs! I feel really great and thought it would be fun to rejoin this forum that helped me years ago.

Jan 1 168.6
Jan 2 168.6

January Goal - 160 lbs (fingers crossed!)

Belinda So good to have you back. New year, new you. The first step was taking charge of your eating and accepting that this will have to be a lifestyle change in order for it to work. We got this, 2017 is going to be our year

Authotheism . We are so happy to have you. You are off to an amazing start. Congrats on the 5lb loss

Have a great evening

Hi all, new-ish here. I was a member about 4/5 years ago but can't find my account and don't have access to my old email. The support I received here was so wonderful and I'm looking forward to having that and giving that again.

I'm not new to Atkins, but ready to start again. I lost about 80lbs in 2012/13 doing Atkins and HCG. Went from 240 to 160. Unfortunately the HCG caused some gallstones which meant I had my gallbladder removed earlier this year. I've struggled with some major digestion issues since, so I'll be interested to see if I can narrow it down and figure out what's causing me so many problems.

I gained all of the weight back after some tough personal issues in 15/16 and I'm finally in a position where I can focus on my health, not only because I want to, but because I NEED to. I'm back to school and don't want my health issues or weight to negatively affect my studies or future career. I'm also hoping to be engaged this summer and don't want to feel uncomfortable in our pictures, and was also asked to be a bridesmaid at one of my best friends weddings.

I'm on my third day of induction and feeling surprisingly good. My boyfriend has been pretty supportive and is eating the same foods as me (although he probably only needs to lose about 10lbs which I assure you he can do in about a week LOL). I'm aiming to get back to where I was before but I found last time I became so obsessed with weighing myself that I've actually decided not to this time. I even threw out my scale. I'll be doing measurements instead. Maybe when I'm feeling better I will get another scale, but for now I'm happy with just seeing my skin clear up and my pants feeling a little looser. I busted out the zipper on my super expensive winter jacket bending over in a store and was absolutely mortified. That was the kick in the butt I needed.

Looking forward to this!

Veronica and Amera just wanted to wish you both a big . I love it when there are new members especially when they aren't new to lc'ing. The more the merrier and it means more tips and advice and motivation for all of us.

Looking forward to a great year and to much success for all of us.
