Dropped 2 lbs and maybe that's why body screaming hunger at me too? Today i am eating. Won't go off lchf
The 24 hours after the meal are the worst. Get through that and you're set for a few days.
Thanks.

I didn't make 24, I had to have a good bit of broth and curly dock. Fat and fiber.
Thanks.

May I join you?

Greetings all,
I just finished reading "The Complete Guide to Fasting" and began my kickstart, long fast. I am 2 days in and feeling very well with only taking water, tea and coffee along with a daily multivitamin. I'm aiming for 7 days, but will re-evaluate at that mark and decide whether to continue to 14.

I've been around these boards since 1999 when I first started Atkins, which has helped me keep healthy over the years including 2 pregnancies. My kiddos are 9 and 11, where has the time gone? But I've found that now that I'm in my 40's and can no longer run to stay fit (joint space narrowing issues with my feet), things are creeping up. It's time to do something differently. And since I had some success with fasting in the past, when I found Dr. Fung and read the book it made so much sense to me that I jumped right in. When I read the mind over matter section it really helped, I was expecting to feel hungry and awful in previous fasts. This time I just tell myself that the wave will pass and then it does and I feel great.

When I finish this first long fast to reset my body and prepare me for the next phase I am planning to do an alternate day plan with LC eating. It's a little harder for me to LC than it used to be since several years ago I stopped eating meat. I still do eat fish though

Thanks for listening

Welcome Sarah!

Stayed LC yesterday but I did eat more. Haven't eaten yet today, not hungry either kinda felt like I was refueling yesterday. So I might have some broth later if I get hungry and just play it by ear. Planning on going back to omad I really liked it and can jump right back in today since I haven't eaten yet but might just skip today and go till dinner tomorrow then it would be like a 45 hour fast.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Did my meal at 5 pm again. Ketosis got me up at 5 am grrrr. But got to work putting the house back together after the laundry room being torn apart for weeks. Worked almost nonstop for 8 hours and I was sure hungry when 5 rolled around. Another 24 hour fast now. Feel good though! Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I almost did a water fast today but I am turning into an insomniac now.
Opened the day @ 2:45 am, slept a whopping 3hrs, then deciding I am not going back to sleep, I drank my salt and lemon cocktail and tea with hwc. Its barely 8ml or so, nothing but fat in it as well. Then @ 8 am same thing. Then I started to do some stuff I had to, mostly in the cold, powered bvy a few triple espresso's, till I got home 7pm, 2 X 20 oz triple espresso's. Then I slept 9pm to 12 and no sign of sleeping now. 3 hrs X 2 days in a row.

Thanks.
Srinath.

Hi all!

I am doing a 42-48 hour fast at the moment.

Will break my fast either tomorrow at lunch or for dinner, it depends on whether I am taking a customer out for lunch or dinner, LOL!

I love how flexible IF is! I tend to now just do 18/6 on a daily basis and have found that with one slightly longer fast of 36-48 hours (depends on what I fancy really) a week, I feel great. And combining it with LCHF keto eating and staying within my macros, I am seeing good results right now. xxx

My leg muscles still feel so tight and sore. They better be the reason I'm not losing. They feel like the are holding 2 lbs each in my calves. I forgot what that muscle soreness feels like lol. Hoping I just stick to plan and have a whoosh when the soreness abates. I'm in such terrible shape that's a new concept for me. But I've read others being sore from working out and not losing, ugh how long does that last?

Michelle,

try sitting for 30 minutes in a warm, not hot bath with mineral salts. I usually add one cup of dead sea salts and one cup of epsom salts. I do this about an hour before bed, and make sure the bath is not hot hot hot. Then bring a good book and soak for 30 minutes and then pack yourself off to bed... After a wonderful nights' sleep you will feel much better and less tense in your legs, and you may even have a whoosh! xxx

Oh Mimosa I would love to. I used to take a bath every night, relax, heaven! But some dork pulled the bathtub out of our house before we bought it and replaced it with the smallest shower known to man. Shower is so small you can't even bend over to shave your legs! Granddaughter is almost 2 and still taking baths in the kitchen sink! We are putting in another bathroom downstairs hurray, but it's going to be a while. If it wasn't so dang cold outside I would jump in truck and run down to my moms for a bath. We are actually above zero today it's been a while, hit -25 with windchill last week school closed, just nasty!

Oh speaking of retarded showers - my new modular clayton has a tub with a drain in the middle on the long side with a non removable big bulb sized stopper, that pops up to drain and down to not drain. Every time I shower, I clobber my feet multiple times.
Thanks.

Well I made it 97 hours...

And then we were going out for Sushi. I don't eat meat but I do eat fish and I just couldn't say no to sashimi

But I felt really good for the 4 days I did fast and now I'm on to the next phase, today I'm eating normal veggie LC and tomorrow I will do a 24 hour fast.

I just noticed that after 16 years on this board I lost all my posts. Last time I checked in a while ago I had thousands, now I have a handful? What happened? Maybe because I haven't logged in for a while?

Mine is 12th, I am eating after my mega doc apt on 13th, and my son's is the 17th we're celebrating on 16th but I wont be eating till my wedding anniversary on the 23rd. Then I'm planning 31st, but depends on my fat stores, if its all gone I'll eat earlier. And start 60 hr fasts till I stabilize, if I still lose weight, I'd try 36, if still losing, 24, if still losing 16:8 (you get the picture).
Thanks.
Srinath.

My favorite Chinese place puts sweet potatoes and cucumbers in the sushi instead of fish, and the waitress said salmon, salmon, salmon so I opened my meal with a lot of sweet potatoes when I should have opened with protein and fat. I did eat lots of fish and seafood after though.
I like seaweed, that part is fine, but I aint eating veggies wrapped in rice. I'd remove the innards and eat just that dipped in hot chili and horseradish.

Thanks.
Srinath.

I had a whole reply typed out and it's gone. Geez!

Seriously impressed with all of you on your longer fasts. So glad I have all of you to follow around for fasting info and real world how to's. No fung books on doorstep yet so I finally hit Fungs blog and wow, great easy info. That will keep me busy till books get here.

I packed a bag and braved to weather, went to moms house and had a hot bath. She had some Epsom salts too lavender. It was awesome and muscles do feel better I really needed that.

Even better I got on her scale and dropped 8 lbs. best day ever! Mom said that's why she never weighs at my house, yeah, no chit, now I don't want to weigh at my house either!

KUTGW ~ I might try to stretch my fast. Feeling just fine not even hungry but I think my tummy is on to me cause it starts crying by 4:30 usually have my one meal at 5. We will see. I have awesome broth I know could take me at least another3-4 hours after my 24. See what I can do....

That sounds like a toe mangler all right clearly the designer never bothered to used it. I'm sure this ridiculous shower we have was because they wanted to slap in the cheapest possible.

Well it's 5 pm somewhere right? Yep right here. telling myself I'm not hungry, and went and made tea. I figure if I really know it's true unbearable hunger I will have broth, but I am going to try to make it a true fast coffee tea and water. so I'm going for it. Hopefully push this to 48 hours. Cause you all inspire the heck out of me!

I am sipping tea as I type this, and If like you I was smart and had tea @ 5 when I walked in the door from an office that is 12 degrees below freezing to a home that is a balmy 8 degrees below, in a car that alternately blew cold air @ my knuckles or hot depending on its whim (6 mile ride, even a 20 minute idle session don't warm it up before I have to drive it) ... I'd have saved myself 300 calories of oil, some 1/2 spoon of chia seeds, and a few sips of pepperoncini brine.

Anyway tea and sitting in an 80 degree room I am feeling normalish again.

This house - yea lots of retarded ideas have been "upgraded" into it.

BTW, this was built by a guy who died before it was finished out. The dude was dealing lets just say ... weeds. Now brilliantly, on my left is a house owned by the chief of police, on my right round the corner is another cop. Jeez, it works well for me cos any weeds I find, I eat them or toss em in 5% brine, but what a genius.

Oh, other shower, the one with the handicapped seat, the hot water has to travel so far across, if you sat in the shower and ran it, it will be cold when it got to you, unless you kept it @ max.

Further house issues are going to be brutally ripped out and rectified in short order.

Thanks.
Srinath.

Oh I wish I would quit waking up so early. Had no problem going to sleep last night. Actually not hungry at all, feel fine hunger wise this morn too. Make it to 5 pm and will have completed my first 24 hour fast. Haven't had any broth yet either. The most bothersome thing is the tightness in back of neck, it goes away with some salt but it is irritating. Dipped my finger in sea salt twice yesterday, and it helps a lot. No lightheadedness which I always used to experience skipping a couple meals, so real fasting is a whole other ballgame rather than just being to busy to eat. Woohoo!

That waking up is a ongoing theme with the water and salt in my daily fasting diet. I never have clocked under 6qts/day in the last 4 months. I stop counting @ 4, it just causes me stress when I count into the double digits, and trust me I have on more than 1 occasion and it is more psychological than physical. Yesterday was 7 or 8 and I have been parched at various points in the day. Today is so far 2 qts in, and I only woke up less than 3 hrs ago.

Thanks.
Srinath.

Michelle, hope you are doing well on your fast! By the way, with regards to taking mineral baths to soothe aching muscles, you could alternatively rub magnesium oil (a 50/50 mix of magnesium and distilled water) on the aching areas. Works a treat too!

I lasted 42 hours into my fast, had to take a customer out for lunch today so I broke my fast at 42 hours. Could have gone the full 48 if this hadn't happened, but I am happy with the 42 hours, it has been a while since I made it this long!

Sarah, wow on the 97 hours!!!! fantastic! About a year ago LCF was cleaned up and we all lost tons of posts here. I was up to silly numbers and now I am back down to 'normal' post numbers, LOL!

Guys I'm going for it. It's 48 hours in just another hour and I am not hungry at all. No other signs I should stop either. Reading Fungs blog he says if you feel fine keep going, so that's what I am going to do. I made goal of 48, anything after this is bonus, so I will go as long as I feel good or hunger demands I eat. Maybe it's all the inspiration I get from you guys too! So thanks to all of you!

You can do it - shoot for 21 and you'd beat Mahatma Gandhi. That was one reason I stopped @ 19 and 3/4 days. As an Indian its not polite to beat the mahatma (plus there was free food at that time)
OK don't just try 21, in fact over 13 can have some likely internal organ damage (I think Dr Fung said that too) so medical supervision.

Thanks.
Srinath.

BTW, does it feel worse if you're looking at and researching food and where and what you'd want to eat next ????
I find that of late its being a huge deterrent, but during my 19 day, I could do it all day every day. And I did, I even made food for my son - nice chicken and all the accouterments I could eat, but chose not to.
Curly dock for my wife was the hardest, cos she was making me make it wrong, however nowadays, I sort of have to keep away a wee bit. Its that last stage of cooking when the aroma's are strong and the food's almost done and its about to be plated. That's when I get weak and on Thursday that's when I caved. Had 2 cups of broth and a little knot of sautéed curly dock in it.
I think Dr Fung's broth advice is a bit one sided. There are a lot of better things if you ask me. Curly dock apparently has 4 gm carb and 3.6 fiber and 1/2gm protein and 1/4thgm fat in a 100 gm serving. The beauty is, you'd be chewing on it so long, it will take you 2 hours to eat that. Now if you're just fat fasting, slather it with anything you like and heck, sautée it, and slather it with mayo, mustard, pepperoncini, and a few seeds of habanero (I have these all mixed in already - every part of this thing is hot, very very very little will set your lips on fire.

I guess broth is more accessible to everyone. CD is a bit of an exotica (though I'll bet most people have it in their yard).
Thanks.
Srinath.
