Are you counting carbs, Terri? I know virtually everything adds up but the only carbs I had today were brocolli and cauliflower. I am resisting drinking a lc protein shake!

Right now, I’m not because I’m doing Induction. Meat, eggs, up to 4oz cheese, up to 4t heavy cream, two small salads consisting of lettuce, celery, radishes and/or cucumbers, green olives and maybe a pickle. As we come off induction I probably will to some extent, at least in the beginning, but I’ve done LC so long I almost don’t need to.

I will probably go to more 72ish tomorrow, veggie wise. I had brocolli and cauli that I wanted to use up and try eating roasted.

How was it? We had broccoli for the first time yesterday, steamed. It was so yummy! Amazing what rings your bell when you finally get away from all the crap.

Today it's back to meat & salad.

It was pretty good but I think I could have roasted it longer or at a higher temp. I admit I am kinda lazy about prepping food so I probably won't cook it often. I used to steam broccoli, but got lazy with that too!

I picked up a new rice/veggie steamer after Christmas at Costco and it's awesome. Perfectly steamed broccoli in five minutes. And the basket goes in the dishwasher.

Now that's what I need

Did you have to adjust to low carb again or were you still adapted? Today I have been hungry non stop! I woke at 5:30 which is about an hour earlier than normal, had breakfast at 8:30, which is odd I usually fast til noon easily? This hunger always happens on my second day it seems, then I end up binging on carbs to get relief, then the next thing I know I am out of control completely. I felt full all day yesterday, but I was hungry at bedtime. I chose not to eat though because I had already brushed and flossed my teeth

I've just been doing IE for the last few months and eating carbs, plus over the holidays there were office treats that we will never speak of again .
So yes I did have to get adapted again and to be fair that's probably why I lost 4 pounds in the first 5 days .

Keep in mind, most all LC plans say eat as much as you want (without stuffing yourself of course) the first few days while you get adapted. Your appetite will self regulate in a couple days.

One of the funny things that satisfied me while I was getting adapted was green olives, especially with some cheddar cheese.

Well I ate a lot today! I did have an atkins shake today, but other than the veggies yesterday that is the extent of my carb intake for the last two days.

How is everyone else doing?

Aroma. They have them at Target too but I got a better price on an upgraded model at Costco.

Hey Jeanie! Totally get the MHD. That’s when I focus on IE and nothing else.

I was starting to get frustrated pushing back into the 140s at the end of the week. Sunday back into the 130s so hanging another week. Helps that DH is still focused.

Hey Mae. Good to see you. Looks like you’re starting off the year well.

Morning Jeanie, How’s it going?

I’m still hanging with ’72, eating a few more veggies than induction now. But I’ve been stalled at 138.6 for a few days. Tempted to try EF or FF to kick it in, but trying not to be manic again and just do what I recommend “stick to it and the losses will start again”. Since DH isn’t traveling lately, that’s probably more realistic anyway.

How's the year treating everyone else?

I am getting a little discouraged. I like just eating low carbish for simplicity sake, but I am not losing this 7 pound gain. It is all belly fat grrr! I am considering a meat/egg only menu for a while til I start craving veggies again!

I feel ya Jeanie. I went back to IE today. LC just wasn't moving things for me and I was becoming food manic.

Terri
I was reading a blog and the author believes that so many of us lc-ers undereat even though the lc plans tell us especially in the beginning to eat til satisfied. This undereating leads to binging or going off plan she believes not because we are weak willed, but because the body is screaming for nourisment! I know for myself I often undereat on low carb and will go to bed hungry if I feel it is too late to eat again or if I feel it would be too many calories. Maybe this is where I fail lc? I think I agree with her and feel it may be true, but yet I see so many women who restrict and do not binge or over compensate, so I am not sure? I guess some of us also have different brain wiring as well.

I don’t doubt you’re right Jeanie. I’ve pushed it a little far sometimes with the Fasting part of IE, especially at dinner I’ll think “Meh, I can do without”. The next day sometimes I’m ravenous. My tummy may be full, but my brain doesn’t believe it. And I totally agree about everyone being wired differently. If we weren’t we’d all be super models. But how boring that would be?

As with anything, give it a couple days for your body (and brain ) to get used to.

They say, and I believe that keeping the body (and mind) guessing rewards us with the best success. Perhaps we were not made to be too comfortable Perhaps that's what's keeps us alive?

Terri, I'll take some of that "boring!" Bring it on!

It's so true that the brain is what messes up our good intentions. I have discovered that "Eat til satisfied" doesn't work for me. "Satisfied" for me is in the brain. I might have had enough to fill my bodies needs, but my brain isn't yet satisfied. So I have changed it to "Eat when hungry, and stop when no longer hungry." Sometimes it only takes several bites before I no longer feel hungry, but I will continue eating because there is more food on my plate. It's a small enough portion, but still more than is needed to stop hunger. I have to tell myself that the food will still be there if I get hungry later on. This is not "The Last Supper."

I am hoping this works for me. As a sugar/sweets binge eater this is the only thing that I think may help. I have tried low carb and even got to goal a few years back but I tend to restrict which I think for me is possibly a reason for the binges.I do not believe in therapy. I hear there are binge eating drugs out there but that idea scares me.

Personally, I find just by telling myself I can have whatever I want whenever I want, as long as I’m hungry, my food mania subsides by a huge percent.

Okay so awake at 5:30 am, had coffee and did a short pilates workout and walked 2 miles with dh. At 10 I ate stuff in a bowl, kinda like a salad minus the lettuce. I had cukes, chicken thighs, bacon bits, hard boiled egg and olives topped with crushed pork rinds and a bit of lite mayo and low carb ranch dressing. I was full but not stuffed, then sipped on some water and felt a bit hungry a half hour later?? So I pondered, this can not be hunger...or is it I have been undernourished for a while so I will eat again, but just then dh asked me to go out for a country drive with him so I did not eat. We were out for about an hour and suddenly I noticed I felt comfortably full. So I think I will have to very mindful of exactly what my body is saying and doing...it will not always be so clear cut. So now I am sitting here sipping an iced coffee with no hunger at all, which seems appropriate as it has only been 3.5 hours since I ate and it was a substantial meal.

It sounds so easy: “Just eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’ve had enough”. But after all these years of “diet brain” it really takes effort. When I started this I told DH is was as hard, if not harder, than any diet because I couldn’t just follow the rules I had to pay attention to how I felt and what my body needed. Still, and especially since I took a little vacation by doing ’72, I have to ask myself if I’m actually hungry or just “thinking” about food. And learning when I’ve had enough takes a couple pauses in the action to see if I’m really still hungry or just finishing what I have. Tossing good food has been a very hard habit to accomplish. I usually just put it in the fridge for later and find later I’m no longer interested.

I am fearful of my my mind veering off into restricting territory, so I am probably being hyper aware right now, hopefully it will get easier as I eat sufficient amounts of nutritious food. What I really need to be aware of is true hunger that I have ignored too long usually involves irritability and the grabbing of whatever food is easy or tastes good in the moment. That kind of hunger if I think about it is a sure sign I have been most likely undereating or eating the wrong foods.
