Michelle, I love popcorn. I have to try to keep my mind off it. I remember on other diet plans, popcorn was supposed to be the preferred snack.

Tammy--I agree, we are all human and that is what derails us sometimes--we just need to keep looking forward and not back... as long as we don't quit we will eventually reach our goal---might not be as fast as we want--but we will succeed thanks to support we have here..

Jan--I hate 465 also--and also 70--it is such a straight road but soooo many people have died on the highway--I think it is because people get bored because it is so easy to drive and then they get distracted maybe by boredom and accidents happen--bad ones...my son lives in Brownsburg and we have found a backroad kind of way to get there---it is a nice drive that we actually enjoy... I had my one and only wreck last December on a highway that was busy up there that I wasn't used to...Ronald Reagan parkway I think it is called??

Michelle--hang in there--tomorrow is a new day--literally.... we can all do this together...get prepared for tomorrow--I love popcorn too but don't have it in the house for that reason--when I am scavenging nothing is safe!!!

Betsie-I have been wondering where Ally and Leanne had gone--sure hope they return..

Carol-thanks for the update on Ally--I think we all miss her--she was so informative and helpful

see you all in the morning

I keep seeing that casserole crockpot--it is 3.5 quarts I believe--I have a 6 quart oval that I use all the time and really wonder if the casserole one would be something I would use? My DH is a big big eater so when I do the crockpot it is usually quite full and the one time I tried a cake in it it came out soggy from the condensation? would a cake be better in the casserole crock? anybody have opinions?

Happy Sunday

I have spent all morning trying to get things ready for tomorrow but the only thing I had accomplished is to get closer to tomorrow, in other words wasted my time, lol. I wanted to put the ****** cd into my laptop that I have used for years and love every aspect of it for counting calories, carbs and proteins since I'm the odd ball and don't eat enough calories when cutting out sweet/fatty carb. and it helps me to keep my calories in the range I need. Grrrr after many attempts I finally read that it is not compatible with the window system that we have now.

Michelle we all can say that we indulged in something from time to time, vent and go forth. I too find myself eating a bite here and there this weekend, crazy thinking on my part that it will be the last. Human natural to reward or treat ourself in my case I need to not just grab and go without thinking what I'm doing. DH leaves his snacks on the counter and old habits are hard to break that is why I'm so long in getting back here. Together we all can do this.

Janilyn Thank you for starting our challenge and allowing me to join along.

It dosn't take to much to confuse me and I am a scattered brain and long winded so please everyone forgive me if I have not personally said hello or thank you for letting me be here with you. I hope over the next few months we all become friends, offer support and make this road a fun one to travel together.

Jedsnj, I would like to know what tracker CD you have but apparently you are not permitted to post it here. I use Fit Day like some others here have mentioned. I have the CD that I bought years ago and have used it on all of my computers. It is dated 2004. I also use the free version that's online and it is really different from the old CD that I have. I love it, and love all the different information I get from it. I tried using *** and wanted to use that because it syncs to my Fitbit, but I can't figure out how to use it.

I am going to make my beginning post for tomorrow, now. I was at 207 lbs last time I weighed a couple days ago. My main goal is to get back under 200 and then go from there. My weight has been creeping up lately and I'm getting closer and closer to 217, which was my highest weight ever. I follow low carb, which for me means protein and vegetables. I pretty much hang onto the wagon for dear life, falling off constantly but never giving up. I am having a very hard time wanting this bad enough to just do it!!

..

Evening Carol, I have the same CD 2004 Fit Day. Long story why mine doesn't work but it has a lot to do with me going to Ky for a month over Thanksgiving and my DH trying to clean up my laptop, yes I have one of those, lol! He is a sweetheart but in his defense we are both stuck in the dark ages and are tech sillies. I just got my first cell phone for the trip and it is a Tracfone, but what is a girl to do when all the kids/family live on text messages...wow just wow.
I have been looking for a new laptop but so far it is on the back burner, but soon very soon.

I have been over weight all of my life and I have forgotten more about weight loss than I will ever remember. I do know that my stepfather use to say that he could eat a whole loaf of bread and gain nothing and I could just smell it and gain 5 pounds, that was when I was in elementary school. I know for a fact I am allergic to carbs because I break out in fat. My highest weight was 278 # but I would level out and keep the same 265 #s for years along with working an active job and raising a family. So this overweight adult life and aches and pains is all on me, in more ways than one. Years ago I found a book written by a couple who had the same issues and weight nightmares as I but they broke the cycle. I started to follow their teaching
and the weight started to fall off and the inches even faster. Then life and my love of carbs, dysfunctional family and work life gave me an excuse to fall back to my love ones....CARBS . This cycle went on for years, different diets, different goals but I set myself up for failure, ect ect ect. Well I am back !!! older, wiser and knowing it is now or never...so you see this is a New Year for me... the being to the new and better me.

Thank you for letting me tell you a little about myself and how I got here but I did save you the pain of reading the novel about the health issues that my love for jelly doughnuts gave to me as the added treats and side effects...another day another story, but I'm sure we all here have turned the page several times on our travels to bring us together...Thanks for being here for me...looking forward to coming out a loser/winner at the end of 2017 and beyond !!!!!

We officially kick off tomorrow!

This is a quick check-in for me. I ended up quite sick with a sinus infection and have stayed in bed the last 3 days, except to go to urgent care today. I have a z-pack and am on my way to getting better.

My goal is 1 pound a week to get to 138 by April 3. I am starting at 147.2.

Best of luck to everyone!!

Thanks Carol for the Ally update. It always concerns me when folks that are regulars just quit checking in. I try to remind myself that there is life outside of forums, lol.

Michelle- nothing wrong w/you, sometimes those cravings just get the better of us. Ask me about the cake I've had a piece of before bed the last few nights! We understand.

Jan-hope you get better real soon. what is a z-pack?

Good morning fellow challenge friends--I hope this is the challenge that I stick to it!

my weight today is 171--and my goal is to see 159--so 11 lbs --that is pretty lofty for me since I have had major decreases in my synthroid this winter...and it is 7 lbs less than last Monday--it was shameful what I gained over the holiday

Jan--hope you feel better soon- -I heard two different kinds of flu were going around?

Betsie--z-pack is an antibiotic. cake? I bet it was low carb cake?

let's all post often and do well

jedsnj, I know all about technical difficulties. I am brain dead when it comes to tech stuff. I also have a Tracfone and have for years, mostly because of the low cost. I have upgraded to a smart phone Tracfone, but I still don't know how to do more than calls and texts. I want to add some apps, but don't know how, and also can't figure out how to get online with it. I'm afraid I would use up all my data minutes trying to figure it out.

I hear so many people who complain that their lack of compliance is due to their love of sweets. I don't eat sweets at all...I have diabetes and sweets really get me in trouble. I feel that I eat pretty healthy, but don't understand why I have so much trouble losing. I guess I just don't want to admit that I eat too much of everything.

Jeanne, I look at the casserole slow cookers and I really want one, but I already have 4 slow cookers in different sizes and don't need another one. I have a 7 QT that I've never even used. I just wanted it and it was on sale.

I sometimes think part of my weight problem is my thyroid, but my doctor says no. He only checks TSH, which to me, is iffy. Maybe I just want to blame it on something besides myself.

Jan, I love your summer beach avatar. Looks so nice and warm. I hope you are feeling better soon. I have not been sick yet this season. I usually get sick in February. Being retired and not out among people a lot helps.

Betsie, I hate when people disappear off the forum. I am addicted, and if I disappear you know I died. LOL I've had 2 different forums close down on me rather than me leaving. LOL

Still a few more to check in. Michelle, Lady Boss, Mrs Vardy. Anyone else?

Count me in!

After a tough couple of years with life changes and gaining 25 lbs., need to ditch some of this self pity weight. Just got my LoseIt! tracker going this morning and started light treadmill walking last week. Am in between jobs and home all day banking calories instead of being active. I won a LCF 5 lbs. challenge once before, so I know I have it in me--looking forward to sharing group support for this new year!

Good Morning

Good Morning Everyone and Happy Official Start Date. My starting weight for the challenge is 262.8, I lost 6.6 pounds last week that I know is water weight since I just started January 1 - but I will take it. My goal is to lose 2 pounds this week and stay on plan. I prepared two big meals for the week on Saturday both from Linda Sue's sight: Pammy Jo Mexicalli Chicken and Green Enchilda Chicken Casserole (I must be in the mood for Mexican Food). I'm not a big poster but I do read everyone elses posts. I hope everyone has an amazing week.

Congrats MrsVardy- I take anything that is lower than before, even if it is just water! Hope you have a good week and see those 2 lbs gone by weigh in.

Carol- I think we all fail to realize how much we eat, even if it isn't sweets, sometimes. I have to remember that calories do count sometimes, even when the carbs are low.

Going2- Hope you see success this go round and especially hope that life has settled down for you.

Jeanne- my cake low carb.... If only it was, then the scale wouldn't be laughing at me.

Jan-Feeling better yet?

Wonder what happened to BrendaG also?

My weight this morning was 140.2, and my goal is 130. I want to maintain in the lower 130's so I thought if I got there then it's just a matter of staying in that range. I guess I should transition over to maintenance and slow the weight loss down a bit. I think I can make 130 by Spring, if I leave the cake alone!!!

Here we go, and we can do it!!!

Good morning all, let's kick this thing off!!!!

My official start weight this morning is 226.2.....My goal for the challenge may be a bit lofty....but I would LOOOOOVE to break into Onderland...that's 2.25 pounds per week. I officially re-started last Monday and I'm down 5 pounds in the first week....I know a lot of that is water weight, but if I could ease into 2 pounds per week I'd be ecstatic!

Carol, do you track your foods? I know for me that I HAVE to use my fit day tracker faithfully in order to ensure I'm keeping my calories / fats / carbs at the right levels or I'm toast! I've also found that most doctors don't really know diddly about thyroid testing....even the "Specialists"

Jeanne, I've not used a casserole crock pot (didn't really know there was a difference) are those the round ones? I have the 7 quart oval and use it constantly!! What I REALLY want are one of the Thermal cookers.....have you seen those? They're basically crock pots but they don't use electricity at all....that would be PERFECT for our RV since we spend most weekends in it.

Jan, I hope you're feeling better, those Z-Packs are the best, it'll have you right as rain in no time!

Well, off to work, Happy Monday everyone!

Tammy-I have never heard of a thermal cooker!!! I will be checking it out for sure since we only occasionally get to camp-but will hopefully do more once the DH retires in 2 years!!

It sounds like a whole lot of us lost the water weight and now we are all trying to get the real stuff gone--it makes for a great incentive when we lose those big numbers....

Carol--I agree about the thyroid and different doctors sure do things differently--I hated my first endo-loved the second one and she got me through the cancer and I felt comfortable with her--she abruptly quit and now I have an endo who believes totally different from her?? who do you trust and believe??? I started out with synthroid 275mg and now I am at 88...I really can tell the difference in my energy too... I was up to 248 pounds after my surgery and with a doc who really didn't know how to get me regulated--I know the thyroid has a lot to do with losing weight-but in all honesty--I have always had trouble and I think at least half of that was due to my own overeating?? you can always ask your doc to order some additional tests and I would hope he would? I do know that your tests can be normal and there are still issues...hang in there--it is just another creek to jump..

Hello Friends,

Sorry to have been MIA but life has been so difficult. 2016 was a brutal year so I am certainly ready for 2017.

It's nice to see so many on this challenge. to the newbies and to the regulars. I look forward to chatting with you all.

I, too, do so much better when I track my food intake. I also use fit day...the free one and my journal says I have been using it since 2002. You would think that I should have lost some weight by now but that's not the case. Actually much heavier now ..... Oh, yes, I do know.... eating way too much and yes, smelling food seems to make me gain , too)

I don't have a problem with sweets as I prefer savory but that usually means crackers which mean carbs and salt! My body doesn't do too well with either of those.

However, it's a new year and the past is the past. I am starting this challenge at 196 and since this is a 12 week challenge, my goal is to lose 12 pounds. Now, that's a lofty goal for me because I usually do the up, down dance and find it really difficult to see success on the but I plan to triumph.

Yes, triumph! Triumph is my new mantra. Trying hasn't really gotten me anywhere so I am going to put some umph into it and aim to TRIUMPH!

Onward and downward!

We can do this together!

Many thanks and appreciation for the add! Hope to get to know everyone soon enough.

Carol - My gyn did routine labs and found my TSH was slightly elevated, so I was referred to an internist who tested for Thyroid antibodies, which came out fine, in addition to a normal TSH result that time (so there went that excuse!). I've heard TSH alone means nothing, maybe get a detailed panel to really get a good answer.

Looks like we all have a little something we are looking to overcome, and with each other's support, we can do it!

I'd love to get into Onederland by the end of this challenge too and look forward to the motivation being accountable to a group brings. LC is my method; I know its ins and outs pretty well and keep a LC pantry with the exception of DH's chips and snax (ack!). Immediate goals include increasing my activity/exercise and cutting back on wine, my biggest vice. I lost 40 lbs. after joining LCF in 2003, then gained it back from overconfidence and have never been able to hit that stride again. My job got stressful and I stopped watching my weight. Then I started a pity party about 5 years ago due to life happenings and well, now you see where I am. So that's my story.

Hope everyone's Monday is off to a good start with the beginning of this challenge!

crazy--so very glad to see you girl---triumph you will!!!

Going2--yep we all have our issues that's for sure--welcome to the group and I know we can all help each other.. I have a DH who has a pile of snacks just about everywhere--he is a big sweet eater too so I have to sit and watch--but I did buy him donuts last week--I have got to learn that this is about me and learn to eat differently...I did so well at Thanksgiving then everything went to **** and I wasn't on plan for almost a month! I just ignored what I needed to do for me...

just put a spinach lasagna into the toaster oven--I have made it before and it is good--came from Linda Sue's site--I love her site and her recipes!

I am going to plan on more cooking in order to keep me on plan-

we are in it to win it!!

Jan--are you feeling any better??? sure do hope so..

time to turn off the lasagna

I had a good food day today. 887 calories and 44 gm of carb, but I just realized I forgot to enter the butter my eggs were cooked in, so it's a bit higher. Now, it's 6:30 PM and evening has begun. What will I do? I already scrounged around looking for DH's potato stix, but he must have finished them. Thank God. I've got my bottle of water here and maybe I'll eat some veggies.

Mrs. Vardy, don't worry about not posting much. I will more than make up for it. LOL I am a real chatterbox.

Going2, I just love that little kitty.

My thyorid. 20 years ago my thyroid went overactive. I was losing weight like crazy, sweating all the time, very shaky. Dr verified overactive and said we will watch it for a while to see if it regulates itself. It did, in a month or so. Dr said TSH is where you start looking. Over the years mine has been in the 3 ish range. One night, I felt terrible. Blood pressure went sky high and I was having palpitations. Since I have heart disease, I went to the ER. They said my heart was fine, but tell my Dr that my TSH is at 7. Told doc, and he put me on Synthroid without any further testing. Couple weeks later I felt terrible again, so I stopped the meds and felt fine. Dr checked again and I was back down, between 2-3. Since that time I feel symptomatic off and on, like it's still swinging between over and under active. But I can't get checked every time I have a symptom. I read somewhere that when you are swinging high and low, it's a sign that you are going to go hypo and stay there. So I will just continue to get checked periodically. I may ask for a more thorough test next time.

Jeanne, I have had to learn to live with DH's junk food. He's not going to change. I have to change for me.

Hi Crazy! Nice to meet you. I used to eat a lot of crackers. Crackers with cream cheese used to be my go to evening snack. Then diabetes showed up and I had to give up the crackers. I do miss them.

Triumph!!

Lady Boss, a casserole crock pot looks similar to a casserole dish...wider with shorter sides than a regular crock pot. I never heard of a thermal cooker but we don't camp so I have no need for one. I have started using an electric pressure cooker a lot lately and I love it. So fast.

I track sporatically, but when I do, I seem to forget things that I ate, or like I forgot to add in the butter that I used this morning. I need to become more consistent with it to see just where my overeating is coming from. I just realized I forgot to list the orange I ate today, too.

Betsie, you have done great. I would love to be at your starting weight at this point. 130s use to be my fighting weight for years, then I married a carboholic and it was all over. I have to blame it on someone!! LOL

Jan, hope the Z pack is helping you and you are feeling better soon!

Mrs. Vardy. I just googled the Green Chicken Enchilada Casserole from Linda's website. If this is the same one you made, I am just drooling. It looks so good, but I don't know if DH would eat it. I would probably have to leave out the green chiles. Maybe I could bargain with him....do something he wants to do if he will eat this. We bargain a lot here.

Morning!

Sounds like we're all off to a good start, the easy part. Hope wherever you are the weather isn't too dicey and you're safe.

Carole - Sorry to hear you've had ongoing thyroid problems, so frustrating, sounds like you are in tune to your body.

And Def. can relate to this, same sitch here: "I have had to learn to live with DH's junk food. He's not going to change. I have to change for me."

Jeanne - A LC lasagna sounds good about now, love Linda Sue's recipes too. I have an Instant Pot pressure cooker I've finally started using and made a semi-LC lasagna in it w Dreamfield's noodles. Came out great, albeit in a small round pan, good for portion control--ha!

Started Day 2 of this challenge with a 2-mile walk on the treadmill even tho' I fought it, wanted to get an early start to the run errands, but I knew if I didn't get the walking in first ...

Some things I'm trying:
- Having a container of ready-to-eat LC veggies and stuff for snax/munchies
- Drinking some vinegar-water (2 T vinegar w some SF drink, diluted w water)
- Started 5-HTP a few days ago to help my winter doldrums, hear it can help curb appetite (riiiighhhhttt)
- Bought a pair of slip-on walking shoes last week. An obstacle to treadmilling was having to change clothes, put on socks, and tie shoes. Now I can do an easy-and-quick mile at any time (ahem) without changing; doing 3 MPH or so doesn't get me sweaty. Know I need to start walking slowly and build up to speed, have a lot of weight on my knees and feet right now and a history of plantar fasciitis and sore knees, know the drill.
- Would love to get some induction-level eating going now that the holidays are over and all the socializing it entailed.

What are some things that help you?

Am curious about yoga, but it just seems so "exotic" to me. If you do it, what are some good beginner resources?

Wow after reading everyone's stories it seems were are more alike then unalike. So why does it always feel like we are alone in our struggles?
I won't discuss the binge that happened last night but again just hope its's in the past and after reading everyone's aspirations this morning it doesn't happen again.

Im off to work right now but will check in later.

Have a spectacular day everyone.

Good Morning and welcome to day 2.
Had a good day yesterday, ate clean and gained 1/2 pound But I am ok with it because I know the best is yet to come. I do need to drink water something I have never been a big fan of but I will give it a good try starting today.

Carol you are doing great, 2 pounds overnight! Wonderland is calling your name.

Kal Hi and so jealous here a Spring vacation. Something to focus on, you know you are soooooo there.

Going 2 Hello, I am one of the newbies and I'll thank you in advance for your support and I'm sending you mine- catch. My DH is a snackaholic he's thin and eats everything. I'm a carbaholic and it shows.

Crazy Hi, I love all of your smilies they make me smile. I don't know how,I tried above so we will see. I'm not really into sweets but beans, mac and cheese, cornbread, salt...oh my. Your mantra " Tri-umph " is the best. This is your year 2017 claim it.

Betstie I'm sure by now you have stepped away from the cake and got your game face on. 130 #s and to be in maintenance are only things I can dream about but you can make it a reality and very soon. You can do it !!!

Jan Hope the Z Pack is doing its magic on you and you are feeling better. DH has had a hacking cough lingering on 5 wks after his nasty bug. Your goal is very doable and I see it happening for you.

Ladyboss I love you your profile picture, the smiles make me smile and the little one is precious. Water loss is my best friend making me happy to see the scales go down. Now is only my friend would visit, lol.

Michelle There you are !!! Have a good day at work- yes that is possible I loved working. I know the struggles and hear what you are saying...we are in this together and you are doing well. I am a firm believer to vent and go forth.

Jeanne I love spinach and your lasagna sounds interesting is it easy?I am making the spinach dip to have with my pork rinds. I'm pretty sure this is a challenge you can stick to, you have us and we can do it, together. Thyroid problems affect more than our weight and I feel for those who suffer with it. I'm pretty sure I need my Cortisol levels checked. Your 11# goal sounds good.

Mrs Vardy Mexican food is like manna from Heaven. I don't post a lot but when I do I'm on a roll. I am always afraid I will someone out and I never want to hurt anyones feelings. I read every word and learn so much for the wise ones that have made this lifestyle an art. Saying that I also know we are human and need support from our friends. Good luck in your goal and I hope your week is amazing also.

LOOK CRAZY
I did it, you are such an inspiration
