I bought some Stevia just in case I have an OMG...I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER day. I was gonna see if I like it in coffee, but then talked myself out of it since I'm just getting used to unsweetened coffee. I don't wanna start something I don't wanna start.

I am not adding sweeteners to any foods but I do have the odd glass of pepsi max (2/3 a week) and sugar free gum when I am driving - I would be lost without my sugar free gum LOL

And I have drank black coffee with no sugar since I was 18 so dont have a problem in that department

Yes...the only AS I have consumed in months is SF gum...I need gum...and I have granted it an exemption from the no AS rule.

I have been trying to get off them as well.. I only use AS in my drinks, and not a lot.I have 1 20 oz diet pepsi at work during the week, and I am weaning myself off of crystal light at home I fill a glass 1/4 of the way up woth crystal light, and the rest water.. I just need a bit of flavor.

My Naturopath would love to see me use nothing at all. He suggested that I use raw honey to sweeten my sun tea a little bit, I was shocked that he said to do it, but he hasn't steered my in the wrong direction yet, so I may try some this week

Won't raw honey kick you outta Ketosis?

I am because I cant STAND the taste of artificial sweetners! I cant even drink diet pop. if i want something sweet, i have like 5 semi sweet choc chips and i stay in ketosis...but my body takes well to ketosis, i get into it quickly, sometimes the same day i start induction, and i can even sometimes go a little over 20 carbs a day and still lose like 10lbs a week. Im so glad Im lucky in that aspect, because Atkins is the ONLY diet thats ever worked for me!

I am not following Atkins.. I am doing my Docs low carb plan, more paleo than anything. He told me that the glycemic index on raw honey is much lower than sugar, and there is some really good nutrients in honey. So he would rather see me use that than the toxic AS. Since I will only be using it for my tea, and nothing else he didn't see anything wrong with it. I still haven't tried it yet.. I will be making some tea tomorrow and I will give it a whirl

Doesn't the SF coffeemate have AS in it?

I've got a "Low Carb Cookbook" (It's on loan to a friend or I'd give the title) that recommends a drop of molasses if you need a sweetener. The claim is it has a much lower glycemic-index than most sweeteners (sugar, honey, etc) and isn't toxic like most artificial sweeteners. (And again - you're using a TINY amount of it, in place of other sweeteners)

I DO have a package of pure Stevia powder (plant-derived, EXTREMELY natural), and recently used it in a custard, with pretty good success. (I was sick, had been throwing up, and needed something easy on my stomach. My grandmother would have fed me crackers, toast, or rice pudding... Followed by custard. So I just skipped the first few, went straight to custard.) My husband even thought it tasted good, which is saying a lot! lol

I try to stay away from sweet as much as possible... Sodas can be hard for me, as I seem to be addicted to bubbles. I'm using Sucralose-sweetened syrups and seltzer to try to get over that as much as I can. (I'll go a few weeks fine... then I'll hit a place where I feel like I won't be able to sleep if I don't get some bubbles. Then I feel like syrup in seltzer is a WHOLE lot better than a diet soda from the corner store!)

So... trying (but so far failing) to avoid the artificial sweeteners. I'll get there eventually.

So far so good. I haven't had any AS like 6 months, but this is my first week without any sweet at all... I was just eating stuff with sugar up until a week ago. The only real temptation has been coffee. I just tell myself that since I'm getting used to coffee with just half and half, I would be opening up a can of worms just adding in a little sweetener.

I don't use any artificial sweeteners (i.e. aspartame, sucralose) anymore. I do use natural sweeteners stevia, erythritol and xylitol. I gave up chewing gum when I gave up Diet Pepsi. I found some breath mints at Whole Foods that are sweetened with xylitol that are actually quite good. I use liquid stevia in my morning coffee and iced tea and a combo of stevia/ery/xyl when doing any low-carb baking.

i almost never add artificial sweeteners to anything.

some things I consume do have artificial sweeteners already in them. but, I do not go hog wild with the quantities; even when they are zero carbs per portion.. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I have been no sugar and no AS for years now - stopped round about 2002. The only sugar or AS is through accidental use through products that use sugar or AS in the production thereof.

I don't have a sweet tooth so this helps. A beer over a oft drink anyday!

I stopped using AS at the beginning of 2002.

I use pure stevia leaf extract powder with no other ingredients added to coffee & tea sometimes (depends on the coffee/tea and my mood!). I haven’t chewed gum for longer than I’ve gone w/o AS. I don’t eat anything else that needs to be sweetened.

I would have thought so, but am no expert. I would be more inclined just to eliminate products that have artifical sweeteners in them.

This question of the use of A.S. comes up pretty regularly and in all the years that I have been keto (8), I have yet to come across good scientific evidence that there is a reason not to include them. Of course, that doesn't have to be the deciding factor.

For myself ~ I still drink some diet pop and very occasionally use liquid sucralose in a recipe. I no longer crave sweet things. I lost the best when I was using A.S. the most. I have simply become less enamored with a.s. as most of them leave an unpleasant aftertaste.

depends

I rarely if ever drink diet sodas (I have always hated the taste). However I do use swerve in low carb baking and sweet n low for coffee. I would be completely lost without my sugar fee jello. So ya I use them but that has only been since I have been within 10 pounds of goal. For the first 6 months I only used them a couple of times.

Eventually, I'd like to be eating an all natural lifestyle, but I'm not there yet. On a daily basis, I include two drops of liquid sucralose in my morning coffee (EZ Sweetz from Netrition), and I drink a few ICE flavored sparkling waters each evening which are sweetened with sucralose. I occasionally eat a Quest Hero bar which contains Allulose. Hasn't seemed to hinder my weightloss or my overall health. If it did, I'd be more motivated to remove it from my nutritional intake immediately.

I've been no sweeteners for years. You will be surprised how sweet things are once you no longer use them!
