New to site!!

Hi Low-carbers. My name is Jill and I started doing low carbs on March 21, 2017. So now it is about a month and a half and I am down 15 lbs.

My starting weight was 200. Today I am 185. Sounds great but I lost 14 of it in the first couple of weeks. I have now slowed to a big crawl.

I think me slowing down is probably due to the hidden carbs that are adding up. Like SF gum, cool whip on my SF Jello,.... maybe.

Excited to get to meet you people and get more tips on how to get this weight loss moving faster.

Jill

Welcome Jill!! Your weight loss to date is wonderful. If I read you right, you have been doing low carb since March 21 and now, 6 wks. later, you have lost 14 lbs. which averages to more than 2 lbs. per week. That is considered a good rate to lose.

It is 100% predictable that people lose a big amount of lbs. in the first couple of weeks. A lot of those losses are fluid. The kidneys dump a bunch of water as they become adapted to low carb. As time goes on, you will likely begin to lose at a more normal pace of about 1-2 lbs. per week. AND it is good to remember that weight loss is never going to be linear. There will be ups and downs on your journey.

Hang in there and learn what carbs are hidden and how to eat a clean and healthy diet. It is a learning process for everyone in the beginning. Join us on the main board!!

Welcome Jill. You are doing an awesome job! Keep it up focus on one day at a time. It's hard not to become impatient. Especially when you hear of others losing large amounts of weight. You've got this.

I found this forum today and I am so excited. I started low carb a few weeks ago but have really tightened down and accounted for each one this week. Wow, what a difference that makes!

third day on Atkins

Hello!
After being overweight most of my adult life and Yo Yo-ing up and down I have decided to give up carbs and finally get to my goal weight with the Atkins plan. This is my third day and I have not been too uncomfortable but feel I need some support along the way. This board is wonderful and packed with info. I look forward to giving and receiving support with you guys. thanks, Glo

Not really new, but been away for a long while.

Started low-carb eating in January 2014 at 295 or so pounds....close to 300. I was just over 40 years old, and had been heavy my entire adult life. Those last two years it caught up to me, and my blood pressure.

I lost about 70 pounds in 2014. The first 40 melted off in 3 months. The last 30 took the next 8 months or so!
Throughout 2015 I maintained at around the 230-235 pound range. I couldn't stay at the 222 low I had once achieved.
2016 saw some big changes in my life. I struggled with depression, separated from my wife, moved out, struggled to find a new job after graduating from college in May 2016, etc. I slipped. I gave up. I didn't care. By the holidays of last year I was back up to almost 260.
I've gotten slightly back on track but struggle with going back to a full blown low-carb lifestyle. I'm down to about 245. But really need to be back to 215-220.

It can be done. Anyone can lose weight. It's a mental thing. We have so many distractions in our lives. But this site helped me tremendously back in 2014.

TheBigKahuna Welcome back! Life can certainly be difficult at times especially when things happen all at once. You know low carb works you've done it before. It definitely is a mental game. Congratulations on the college degree.

back TheBigKahuna! I remember you. I am sorry to hear that you have been through a rough time. I had a similar experience many years ago. In my case, I had lost to goal and maintained for a couple of years. My life blew up (out of the blue) and I jumped off the wagon. I struggled and struggled to get my traction back with low carb.

Eventually I did it but it was rough. Certainly getting myself off the carbs was my biggest challenge and I had to 'white knuckle it' for the induction period. But once that was finished there was no looking back.

This forum was very important in terms of support. Just logging in daily and reading and posting helped a lot. Maybe it is the key for you too. Come join us on the main board.

Hi all,

This is my second time on Atkins (first time I lost 200+ pounds).

This time the weight loss has to be permanent as I'm older and my health is starting to suffer. I want to watch future grand children grow up.

Looking forward to learning here and sharing and reading about everyone's experiences.

:-)

Hello for the 3rd(??) time LCF'ers!
I've been here under since around 2003. Did SB, then Atkins sorta modified with SB. Successful both times and then just kind of pooped out. Who knows why.

Anyway, I didn't gain it ALL back. At max I hit 199.6lbs wearing a size 14 (snugly). I don't own a scale anymore so I have no clue of my weight but wear a 12. I'm DETERMINED to get down to a 6. And I know what I gotta do to get there. Losing around 60lbs would do it.

I have a trip to NYC at the end of July/1st week of August to meet 2 dear friends in person for the first time, and we're going to a concert (with backstage passes) to meet Jared Leto & 30 Seconds to Mars. One MAJOR thing on my bucket list!!!! So I've got some serious motivation to do this and do it all the way.

I went to the grocery store and dropped almost $200 on the food I need. Not being a stranger to this WOE, I know what to do. I just need the support system of friends who are striving to get healthy to cheer me on and to cheer on your own journeys!!!

I'm from Northern MN, and work at a restaurant (yikes). Am looking for a non-food related job to keep me on track lol....

Have a great day, LCF's!!!! <3
