I have found many different kinds online and I'm so confused as to what brand and how many mgs to take for constipation...I would appreciate any suggestions...

If you're actually constipated, you would need the laxative form--a liquid magnesium citrate that comes in a bottle. You can get it at any pharmacy. They even have it in my supermarket. You drink the bottle and follow with another glass of liquid. It's very effective.

To stay regular, you can supplement daily with magnesium citrate pill or capsules. Don't worry about the brand--just make sure the form of magnesium is 'ate'--like citrate or malate. The cheapest and most common form is oxide, and that's not as effective.

Most people are deficient in magnesium anyway, so taking this is actually good for your health. And you can increase the dosage to any level that keeps you 'regular' without worrying about overdose (the body eliminates what isn't useful).

I hope this is helpful.

I am currently taking magnesium citrate (200 mg per tablet). I take one tablet in the morning and another one at night for a total of 400 mg per day. I purchased the NOW brand and these tablets are big so if you have trouble swallowing you might want to check out other options.

I saw this chart in my Magnesium Advocacy group after I spent $25 on ionic magnesium citrate.

I don't really trust this information because Dr. Michael Eades recommends Magnesium Citrate, and I buy from Amazon where a lot of reviewers say that their doctors have recommended the Citrate form so I don't understand how it can cause 'health issues.'

I've been taking it regularly for quite some time and have had no negative effects.

My doctor told me to take the citrate and I trust her so that's what I'm going to take, but the only thing she didn't tell me was how much so now that I know I can't overdose on it I can experiment with it till I know what's right for me

I would start with the 200 mg and increase to 400 mg if needed. Also, would recommend taking it with the evening meal.

I also take Magnesium Citrate, 200mg per day although the bottle says to take 400mg. I did start out taking Magnesium Oxide and I was getting terrible diarrhea with that (can't remember the dosage) so I tossed it, did some research and bought the Citrate form. I should probably take the full 400mg because I still have constipation issues, but I take so many supplements, I'm okay with taking one pill per day.

I'm now taking 500 mg of magnesium citrate with my daily meal because 300 mgs wasn't quite enough and that is working great

I take magnesium not for constipation but to lower my blood pressure. In fact have to watch how much because it causes digestive upset easily for me. I've tried all kinds. Calm a powder you mix into water is one that really upsets the Apple cart for me. It is the citrate form and even starting with 1/8 teaspoon I couldn't tolerate it. So I ended up taking slo-mag. It only gives me diarrhea if I take 5 of the tablets per day. 4 and I'm fine. A really fine line. It is the chloride form and includes calcium. Doesn't upset my stomach like all the others have. I believe it is 143 mg per 2 tablets. They are pretty big but are coated. I have problems taking pills so these are ok but I wouldn't want them bigger.

It can be used many ways in many foods but for me, I do this, take 2 Tbsp. of agar and 1 cup of water, let it boil for 2 minutes then pour it in a bowl or in an ice cube tray like me. It will turn to a gelatin consistency then eat it plain or add it into your food. Start with a couple of cubes from the tray and see how much it takes for you. It has no carbs or calories and it's tasteless. I get mine at the Asian market it is much cheaper there and you can get a small amount so you can see if it works for you. I like to make bone broth and add it in. Google it for lots more idea's. Hope it helps.
