Well - There I am right back where I started the month. I'm really tired of the rapid weight gain that comes from eating carbs. I'm going to try a new method. Clearly I can't stay 100% low carb and when I cheat, it messes with my head with that stupid all or nothing mentality that I have. I know not eating carbs helps my appetite a lot, so I'm going to continue to avoid sweets and flour, but my focus is going to be on calories. I'm hoping for a slow and steady loss instead of this darned yo-yo affect.

Bloodhound - Yay! You're so close to wonderland now! I can't wait to see you cross that line. Good luck with the colonoscopy prep. I know it isn't the most pleasant thing to go through.

Charlotte - Welcome back! Good job sticking to plan.

Well today is my restarting LCing anniversary. I lost 75.4 pounds in a year. I was aiming for much higher but am happy with having started this journey a year ago and hope that by next year I will be much closer to my goal weight if not at it.

The colonoscopy prep diet is working. I had eggs yesterday and plan the same for today. Tomorrow I don't get to eat anything, just clear liquids. What I'll REALLY miss is my coffee with Splenda and HWC. I can have it without the HWC, but since it's decaf, what's the point?
Kit, I'm famous for rapid gains, too, when I carb it up, but it drops back off quickly when I get back on plan. Good luck whatever plan you choose. They all work if you stick to them. My problem is sticking with them. Maintenance is also a problem. I've lost before and not kept it off. I'm thinking of switching to low carb Paleo for maintenance.

Hi everyone, I started Aug 1st and I'm down 6 lbs but that was in the first few days and I've not lost anything since and I've had nothing white or sweet and not drinking soft drinks anymore. Shouldn't I be losing more? I've really changed from the way I used to eat which was a lot of sweets.

Lorabelle12 - I always lose a bunch the first week or so and then it settles down. Make sure you aren't eating too many carbs and that you are getting enough fat. There are carbs in almost everything, even eggs. Might help to write down what you are eating and count those carbs.

My pinched nerve issue had improved enough, that I decided to head to Taos yesterday morning to see how far I could get. When I got to Woodward OK (the logical point of no return) I swallowed real hard and kept on driving.

All in all, I didn't get along too bad, but I snacked on low carb goodies enroute and WAAAY overdid it.

Add a yummy restaurant salad at suppertime while entertaining my favorite wimmens (required activity) and I was as full as a Dog Tick at bedtime. So did I really go backwards?

I imagine so....

Back on plan* today, and managing my neck, shoulder, and arm pain a little better.

And I agree, NOBODY should feel badly about losing ONLY 75 pounds in a year!!!

Take care losers!

Stan the flatlander, at 7000 feet.

* Plan modified for the vacation, to allow for taking pain meds, muscle relaxants and steroids for nerve inflammation as per Dr's recommendation. (Three very light KETO meals.)

Here's what helps me:

1. Make sure you have eaten enough protein for the day.

2. Have any carbs as early in the day as possible.

3. Have some 85% dark chocolate (or higher). I have always found that eating 2 or 3 small squares stops my appetite in its tracks for hours.

I hope to get 10 more gone forever during August.

Lorabelle12, are you using a scale to weigh your food? I'm having better success than before because of several things:

1) weighing my food portions
2) logging food intake into a computer tracking app
3) daily weighing and posting to this UNDERSTANDING group of people
4) Education through Excellent Low Carb Information on the internet
5) Intermittent Fasting
6) overcoming disdain of wasting food through spoilage. I used to hate that. So I'd just eat it!

Those were in no particular order.

I learned how easy it is to underestimate calories by using a good kitchen scale. Americans don't need as many calories as we eat, period. I'm guessing Canadians don't either. We have food readily available 24/7 in modern times, and I think that is a big part of our problem. That and the ubiquitous marketing of junk food.

My daily intake goals are 1500 calories, 5 to 10% carbs, 70 to 80% fat, and 15 to 25% protein. I do measure net carbs, and always under 30 grams per day....more typically 18 to 20. I eat a huge bowl of salad every day.

Some of those tips may help you too. Even though we aren't carbon copy clones of each other, low carb works. I'm confident you are simply making a mistake and you can correct those. You can do it!

My neck is improving. Off to the shower, then church.

Have a GREAT Sunday!

Stan

Thanks Judy. I'm curious about the Gall Bladder thing you mentioned...partly because my sister had that problem, and her gall bladder is gone. Does that "present" a symptom similar to my problem? It seems so different to me...at first blush anyhow.

I had neck, back, and shoulder pain-- radiating down my left triceps (tricep?) bad enough my MD ordered an EKG, suspecting I might have had a heart attack. Probably a smart move, and it was only $50....pretty cheap peace of mind. But the MAJOR PAIN is under my left shoulder blade. Neck rotations and stretching exercises offer some relief. But the numbness in my left arm and fingers is going to stick around for a long LONG time according to my Chiropractor.

Wow, this colonoscopy prep diet is really working! Today will be the hard day. I can drink coffee, but can't use my HWC or milk or creamer of any kind At noon I have to take a bunch of laxatives. At 5:00 I start drinking the laxative drink. Then I get to get up in the middle of the night and drink more of the laxative drink I hope all of this torture leads to a Onderland weigh-in tomorrow! I'm so close.
BTW, I hit the 50 pound mark finally!!!!!

I had a colonoscopy once. Not particularly pleasant, but I wasn't in sheer agony as I recall. On the other hand, it was over 30 years ago.

I had a 9 month bout of diarrhea before or about the same time as our firstborn. I stopped the tractor 27 times one day, and it was a Versatile with several steps to climb down. Exhausting day, that one!

I never got a diagnosis, and as suddenly as it came, it just went away.

I'm so weird.

Land O'Lakes has Sugar Free Whipped Cream in a can! I'm getting some after my procedure on Monday! It will go really well on my sweet egg crepes!

Hi y'all! We had a terrific and epic adventure on our holiday. We traveled to Yellowstone Nat'l Park, a few Oregon trail sights (saw some wagon ruts!), Devil's Tower, Yosemite Nat'l Park, Sam Simeon (a couple days at the beach!), Hearst Castle, San Diego (this was our Wally World; our son is now a United States Marine!), sat in traffic in LA, Las Vegas (spent $6 and won $50 on slots! LOL), Death Valley, Painted Valley, and Petrified Forrest. There are few others I'm sure I forgot since we went soooo many places! We drove about 8000 miles I think. (DH drove over 10,000 this summer altogether). Every day a new hotel except our time in SD (stayed with family for 3 days while the USMC festivities were going on)

This country is truly beautiful and driving it is the only way to really see it all. We would literally drive over a mountain or through a mountain pass and the terrain would dramatically change. It was incredible and lovely. I wish I could share some of our photos.

My goal is ketosis by the time school begins. I need that energy and controlled feeling. We return Thursday as teachers and school begins Monday Aug 28. I'm ready for this year. I've been chosen to teach all advanced classes this year to do some dynamic things with these kids and its exciting!

I'll be back daily and am enjoying checking out the posts for this month.

WTG Stan on your century mark!
Stan and Terri driving does get old. 13 hours is a LONG time in one day. Are you breaking it up? Maybe y'all are back already since I'm reading all this late.
LJ, that's amazing your denied yourself the goodies at the building opening. THAT sort of thing is a tough for me usually too.
Shannon, you've done awesome this year and should be proud! WOO HOO
Charlotte, congrats on the new decade!
Bloodhound you are so close! BTW I've been using the canned SF whipped cream for about a year now. Its awesome!

What's OOT again please? (I looked for the dictionary but couldn't find it on the site)

I've missed my daily visits here!

Doing a reset. On top of that, I dropped a frozen turkey from the freezer on my foot and I think I broke 2 toes.

Stan...I got the following from a website....however, I cannot post a link. That's forbidden here. "Gallbladder attacks are often mistaken for a heart attack, when the gallbladder is unhealthy, this small digestive organ is unable to properly aid the digestive process (by storing liver bile and excreting it into the small intestine to for food digestion). As a result, gallstones can form and block bile ducts, bile can back up in the gallbladder and cause painful inflammation, or the gallbladder can become infected with a condition known as Cholecystitis."

Whenever I've had a problem with my gallbladder, most of the pain was in my upper back right below my left shoulder.
