Today was a good, yet challenging day. Again I felt stronger, but as a persona who gains strength easily, my muscles feel tighter and it's a challenge to relax them into the stretches, the floor stretches especially. It was somewhat better than last time though, so I'm glad about that. My legs are getting straighter and straighter for longer in various exercises and stretches, so I'm even more excited about that. It's subtle changes, but enough to keep me motivated.

How's everyone else doing?

Good for you Bronwyn!

Today I did more of an Evo version mixed with Super, but not on a Super level. It was nice for a change, using my body differently for a change. I even threw in a few push-ups!

Thanks @Jigglebuster and @Bronwyn.

First I will do my workout every second day. My muscles are thankful for that choice.

Sounds good SharonRose!

I think the standing hip and behind exercises are a bit too much for me just yet, so I was back at 10/10 this morning, really being gentle. Something shifted in my body today, though, in a good way, so I'm very content with what's happening and feel a strong sense that all will be well in the end.

I had a very wonderful hour today. I did 10/10, but with some Super ab-work in place of the first three of 10/10. Also, my neck naturally wanted to do the Super neck stretches, so I went with it!

Don't you love how you can mix it all up and still get a great work out. I have done the back workout every day this week. Its about 30 minutes, so not too bad. Still very sore from the crazy on again off again weather here in the ohio valley but I have decided that my workout is so much more important than house work.. I am more important, so if I have limited movement, I choose my workout.. house will get done whenever.

Happy February!

Hi!
Where are you located in Ohio?
I absolutely love Callanetics. I have searched and searched for local classes but haven’t been so lucky (so I continue to do at home).

Yes, it's is nice to be able to switch it up!

Today was a straight up 10/10 day with Super neck stretches. All of my stretches felt like they were on a different level today, deeper. I was able to relax my hips more, and allow my lower abs to relax when turning to each side. My legs wanted to extend further out on the floor stretches suddenly! My legs are still bent in every one of them, but I'm okay with that; it will come. I'm just glad I'm not sitting on my tailbone.

Welcome Cara!

So today was a 10/10 Super ab Super neck stretch day. I'm alternating this with just regular 10/10 for the time being. My muscles were VERY engaged. I felt everything and was aware of everything each movement was working on. I'm 99% sure my technique was on point. Wow!

My stretching is improving millimetre by millimetre, and I've learnt that if I experiencing any cramping while stretching, I simply have to relax the muscle more and voila! it goes away! This has allowed me to relax more going into the stretch i.e. I'm not thinking about how much I suck at stretching and judging myself to the point of dreading the stretches.

So, all is good and I continue to move forward!

Happy Pulsing everyone!

Today, I did 10/10 but tried the Super leg exercises again, only this time, I reminded myself I was just starting out and did a LOT less. I think this will work out fine.

So, on my alternating days I'll incorporate the Super stomach exercises the first day and the Super leg exercises the second day. I think this will work out nicely.

My body is changing back to what I once had before the hip dislocation, and while I'm not concerned about what my body looks like, there is a point in my body's balance where I felt really good in my body, I felt like me, and I can feel that coming back.

I've replace the inner thigh crunch with ins and outs on my Super ab day. My legs are super bent right now, and I could only do a few, but it feels like the right decision.

My stretches are getting stretchier! On all fronts, so that's exciting!

I need to read back to see when I took a day off last, but I think tomorrow might be one. I've got that Callanetics addiction thing happening!

I was just wondering, do any of you have any goals this month?

It seems I have 5 hours already, so I think 16 hours total for the month will be realistic for me.

My goal is a session on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Unfortunately, I'm in a funk again because of problems sleeping. Maybe it's just my scrutiny but my body shape is improving in my legs and arms, but my waist looks huge! Not a pear shape but just not feminine. I'm 54 so my expectations are realistic but it's just a slow process for me. Perhaps it also has to do the body part stength training twice a week.

It'll pull in. The thing about Callanetics is, everything gets pulled to the middle then smooths out, and then the next layer begins.... goes to the centre and smooths out... etc., etc.

Sometimes our eyes don't see what's really happening though. Have you been tracking your measurements or been taking pictures, Bronwyn?

Well, today I have this gust of energy, so I did Cardio Callanetics, and I was surprised! Usually, I'm breathing heavy and sweating by the time the warm-ups are done, and straining to keep my arms up, but this time, I was okay. I still had to make an effort, but I know the choreograph well enough that my brain muscles weren't being used as much so I could flow more, and I think that makes a difference. Does anyone else do Cardio Callantics?

Today, I could feel everything going deeper, stretches too! It was a 10/10 Super neck and legs day for me, and as I worked I paid attention to my waist.

When I first start doing Callanetics, the side stretches seem to stretch the hips, but as I work, over time, I feel it more at my waist and up into my ribs. This is the point I've always noticed the waist pulling in. BUT it's not just this that pulls the waist in.

Those second stretches to the side, after the waist stretch, pulls in the waist, but even more so when you really get those elbows out, and stretch between the shoulder blades.

As you come up higher on your hip and behind exercises, that strengthens and pulls it in.

During the leg stretches in 10/10 you will hear:

"The more you can stretch those elbows OUT, the more it's going to loosen up between shoulders blades, the more the shoulder blades and back are released and stretched, the more you can get you stomach to work even deeper, and you'll be able to go up higher."

And going deeper and higher will pull in the waist.

So basically, the better the technique, the more your waist will pull in, in addition the the theory that everything gets pushed toward the centre before it smooths out.

I know, from all these years of doing Callanetics, if I end up stopping and come back to it, my results tend to come faster, and that is simply due to experience. If we all had Callan by our side, guiding us, our results would be that much faster.

So I guess what I'm saying is, focus on quality, not quantity, and you'll get there... "Tortoise wins the race!"

Today was okay. I wasn't as focussed as usual, which means my stretches weren't as deep, but the exercises went well, and I was really appreciating all the back stretching through the shoulder blades and middle back. I went cross country skiing yesterday for just over an hour, and I woke up a bit tight.

So the 10/10 super abs alternating with the 10/10 Super legs is working well with me, but I also noticed how I need that aerobic part, so I'm going to do a set of the alternate 10/10's then a Cardio Callanetics then the alternate 10/10's. That will be a 5 day routine followed by a day off. It feels right, and I'm feeling motivated, and am grateful for this functioning body.

Okay, well, I'm beginning to feel like I'm yammering away to myself here. Someone else say something, please? Are you doing well, struggling somewhere, have questions. This is where to put it!

Cardio Callanetics was a challenge this morning. Not the choreography, but my muscles were weaker and I was out of breath easier, I suspect, because I started my period today. I was also up extra early today, and was very self-conscious of my floor squeaking as I moved, even if my neighbour downstairs is almost deaf (I live in a very old building). I feel good though. I feel like I'm doing something loving for myself!

Have a great beginning to your week!

Hello!

Today was a 10/10 with Super neck/legs, and I am beginning to feel that solid inner core strength again. I'm really starting to appreciate the side stretch, with subtle adjustments affecting what exactly that I'm stretching, and so my stretch is going that much deeper.

Happy pulsing everyone!

Glad you are checking in, even when no one else does! Another session this morning but had a lot of trouble with foot and toe cramps, so a couple of exercises had to be modified. I also paid close attention to my posture with the waist stretches in trying not to stick my hips out. Not sure that I really do that, but noticed that I had a hard time getting full breaths, as if my lungs were doubled over or something. Wonder what that was about? I think it was my stance.

Hi everyone, I've just joined this forum. I've been doing Callanetics on and off for several years. I have a query, which I don't think has been asked before on here.

On the original 10/10 programme, Callan advises that you should tighten the behind and tilt the pelvis up when doing the sitting down behind and hips exercises. But on the AM/PM programme, she doesn't say this.

What do you think? Should we or shouldn't we tighten and tilt when doing those particular exercises?

Thanks!

I believe you might be arching your back a bit, lifting your chest up in trying to stretch. Try to focus on extending through the spine, find your resting spot, and having your arm do most of the stretching.

Hi Siouxie!

We've discussed this years ago in previous threads, and it was pointed out was she was basically saying "engage your pelvis", so yes, engage your pelvis in pretty much all of the exercises.

I woke up later than usual today, so I stopped working for an hour to pulse and have a shower. It was 10/10 with Super abs and Ins and Outs in place of the inner thigh squeeze today. My technique is improved, and with it, I can feel the muscles working deeper. My stretches went to a whole new level today - you'd probably look at me and think I don't look very flexible, but my eyes are closer to my knees again and my legs are getting straighter and straighter. A bone in my tailbone has been a bit niggly the past few days, so I think it's a good time to take a day off.

Bronwyn, which exercises are you doing that you get cramps in? Not knowing, I'd try relaxing the muscle as much as possible, and if that doesn't quite work, massaging the muscle until it relaxes. If that doesn't work, you might want to have a good epson salt bath and get some magnesium into you and see how that works.

Keep those peaches perky everyone!

Jigglebuster, I just want to pop in and say that I (and probably countless lurkers) really appreciate your frequent updates. When no one responds, it's easy to think no one is reading, but I definitely am and I find your updates very honest and inspiring! So thank you.

I'm returning to Callan after being away for about 6 months due to a work situation that was beyond brutal. Now I find myself dealing with almost crippling shoulder tension and the general mess that the body becomes when you spend an inordinate time slumped over a computer dealing with every kind of ridiculous stress. I'm counting on Callan to help me out!

Right now I'm doing the Countdown/30 Days DVD. I really like the fast, no-nonsense pace, though I miss Callan's calming, compassionate voice and her encouraging us to get that "perfect little peach"! (What on earth would she have thought of Kim Kardashian?)

I've decided I'll switch between the first 5 days of Countdown and the Quick Callanetics segments until I can actually get thru the first 5 Countdown days, then move on to the next Countdown phase.

Anyway, glad to be back and see all these familiar faces! Keep pulsing, everyone!

back EyesOnPrize!!!

That's very kind of you to say.... Thank you.

You know, you've got this. Gentle goes it and be all loving to you, and you'll find your way through the aches and pains.

------------------------------------------------------

Well, today was 10/10 with super neck stretches, legs and inner thigh squeeze. I had been feeling like I was going to crush my chair's legs the last little bit, so I think putting my heels on the chair now is appropriate. Funny, I don't think I've ever done the Super inner thigh squeeze before. I can really tell how I'm using the muscles, which feel weaker, differently in this position.

I am really loving that stretch through the back in the pelvic scoop! I dialled into something deeper with it on Wednesday and suddenly I have that tall walk feeling!

I've always hated the side stretch, but I've learnt a lot doing it lately, and I'm now looking forward to it. The same for the floor stretches.

Bronwyn, I'm really grateful to you for making me look closer at the waste, because I'm now really fine tuning the use of those elbows and ... Wow!

Hello!

Today was my 10/10 Super neck, abs and Ins and Outs and I think the strength went a bit deeper today, as did the stretches. I'm quite surprised by how much straighter my leg is with the arch on the bar. Too, I was faster going through the routine, but that was due to the fluidity from one exercise to the next. Quaking was happening with all my Hips and Behind exercises, and you know what that means! Progress will reveal itself shortly!

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! XO
