Hi everybody, hope everyone is doing well. Went to the orthopedist who did authorize another 4 weeks of therapy. I have really improved as far as stability and better muscle support around the knee, but I am so sore after the sessions. My therapist has also increased the weights and resistance on the machines. Can I just say 'OUCH'!!!! I really like my doctor, who agrees with me absolutely about treating the torn meniscus conservatively. Yes, I will probably wind up with surgery someday, but not now.

My brother-in-law requested that I make him a chicken potpie. Unfortunately it's not on plan for my sister or me, but I did make him a small version. He almost ate the whole thing. I made a chicken casserole for the rest of us out of fresh veggies, cooked chicken and a healthy sauce. It tasted a lot like pot pie, but without the heavy, creamy sauce and pastry crust.

I am elated that I have lost 15 pounds. I spent weeks see-sawing back and forth, but I think I'm finally on the right track now. I know that losing weight is key to managing the pain in my knee. I read that for every pound you loose, it's 4 pounds pressure off the knees. Less pressure is GOOD! I am well on my way to my first goal, which is dropping 10% of my body weight (25 lbs). I know what to do, It's just a matter of sticking to it.

I have had a great day. I have been on point with my eating today. Tonight I tried roasted broccoli. It was so good! I had never had roasted broccoli nor had I even thought of roasting it. I also made me some vanilla chia pudding. It did the trick too. I haven't had any extra sweets today with the exception of my coffee. I have been feeling it too.
Don't feel bad Terri I too am a sweets person. I love them.
I did my interval run this morning and while I was out with my chickens I walked for 20 minutes. I got in my 15,000 steps today.
Wow Curvy you have done awesome. Don't let Tom get to you. You can push through and beat him down.
Judy~ I really hate that you've had vertigo happen again. I am glad you are feeling much better.
Shellybelle
Stan~ Don't beat yourself up. At least you ate a burger w/o the bun and the avocado? Dude that's a good fat! Your probably up due to the sodium in the burger. As far as why you were feeling bad? Maybe your sugar got out of wack. Hang in there your doing fantastic!!
Gail~ Way to go!! 15lbs. wow!!
Sven~ Your doing awesome with the running! KUTGW!!
Wow y'all this group has really grown. We are getting so many new faces. I am so sorry if I haven't commented on your post. There's just so many! Lol I do read them and am proud of everyone's accomplishments on here. If your struggling with the scale maybe now's the time to take a look at your "Non Scale Victories" or NSV's. They are as important as the number on the scale. Have a restful afternoon everyone!

Down a little this morning. I good with that. I really thought I'd be down more cause I woke this morning feeling smaller. My stomach had that empty not bloated feeling. My size 14's are starting to fit me a bit better too. I grilled some steak last night and while I had the grill going I put some chicken tenders on as well for the rest of the week. I feel that if I have some things prepped that sticking with my plan is easier. I'm going to make me some SF jello and more vanilla chia seed pudding. I've been drinking more water as well and crunching on ice less.
Sammi~ Yayyyy!!! Finally broke that plateau!! WTG!!
Sick-n-tired~ 10lbs. this month?! Fantastic!!
Terri~ I've been wondering where Laura and Belly are too. I know Belly checks in from time to time, but Laura hasn't been on in a while. Where are you at ladies?

Thanks, Stan...I can't imagine having this happen on a motorcycle. I used to ride...don't anymore. This happened when I turned over in bed and then when I got up I was literally bouncing off the walls. Had to use my cane in one hand and hang onto the wall with the other hand. Mine isn't related to a virus. It is the BPPV vertigo. I hope you don't catch what your wife has.

Thanks, Teresa...Great job on the weight loss. I am better....now if it just sticks this time.

Thanks, Kit...Appreciate the good thoughts.

Thanks, Tammy....I sure hope this is the end of the vertigo.

Thanks, Tami...

Laura...Belly....Where are you guys?

Thanks everyone for the good wishes/thoughts. I am much better...again. Just praying it will stick this time.

February Goals

February is a short month with a couple of sneaky days - Superbowl and Valentines - both are counter to weight loss
Hopefully I'll end in the teens

2/22 226.2 M fast D rotisserie chicken, salad Dst small piece chzcake Snk cheddar/capricola
2/23 224.8

Making a batch of slow cooker ossa bucco for tonight. (smells good anyway)
I lost my fitbit at some point yesterday. I don't stress about counting every step - but I like it for measuring my runs. (just for tracking purposes)

Judy - I'm glad to see you're feeling better. The recurring vertigo must suck. You're having an excellent weightloss month though

Stan - Good to see you're KSA this month. Don't feel any guilt about bunless burgers! That's a staple in my diet In my experience, sodium weight gain is very temporary. And your blood pressure will love you for losing all the weight.

Tami - Thanks. I took a day off yesterday because my calf was sore. But I pushed it on Tuesday. Actually, that's one of my traditional end of exercise plans. Start. Get into it. Try and push myself harder. Hurt myself. Stop. (Wait 3-4 years). Yesterday wasn't really that bad. And today the soreness is gone. But I'll be more careful stretching going forward.

KUTGW everyone - We're in the last week of February. For some reason, I've always preferred March to February. Spring is that much closer and life is just easier...

Stay on Target

Then DW had to go ahead and have our second child (ok, part of that was my fault) and so we had a two-year-old and a new born. Between the lack of sleep and the holidays, my diet exercise plan was torn to shreds. And bad habits returned. Once more into the breach my friends. Once more into the breach.

I actually started a thread about this in one of the other subforums. But I'm a bit surprised I am losing so quickly. Not STUNNED by any means, but more like concerned.

Is there a "sweet spot" with caloric restriction, below which you can damage your metabolism? I know my body will fight me for against moving its "set point". I'm not referring to that. I mean, can I actually hit some sort of 'starvation state' at 1500 calories and make this harder? (It's a little hard to word that for a google search. )

I've tried LCHF before and after a few weeks, it didn't work very well so I lost interest. (That's about all I lost, if you catch my drift.)

But at that time, I didn't have Cron-O-Meter and I didn't try caloric restriction of any sort. My current caloric restriction is induced largely--and made easier-- by Intermittent Fasting, and I know that full well. Still, I count calories.

I'm a tallish 6'2" and am losing darned near a half pound a day on average on ~1500-1600 calories of 5% carb, 20% protein, and 75% fat. At 62 years of age, and exciting as it may be to lose over 3# a week is even at the end of the 2nd month, IT IS of some concern. Protecting my long term progress and my metabolism is sharply in focus, because I SIMPLY MUST NOT FAIL AT THIS. My family history, and my own observations of my Blood Pressure and glucose testing confirm my concern.

So long story short, after the first month, I expected to have to change up my protocol to continue losing this time. But I hate to change anything that is working. Should I be worried about a caloric sweet spot at this time?

Sorry that is so long.

Goldwingnut,

I don't know you personally, but if that was me, losing at that pace, I would be like !!!

I wouldn't change a thing. It's inevitable that you will level off sometime soon. Way to go!

I appreciate the response, Terri! I'm inclined to keep this up as is, but my wife advises I oughta add a couple hunnert each day...just to be safe. Still weighing (see what I did there!!) all my options.

(Aren't grandkids just the BEST!) (We only have one so far, but man oh man...how I look forward to Fridays! It's my wife's day to keep him at our house. The 2 Grandmas split up the week so he entertaining little 19 month old carcass is not in daycare so much. Most weeks, I get into the act for a couple hours before I drag myself away to go run the shop.)

At your weight, I think you are totally fine. I think you'll also come to a point sooner rather than later, where you'll need to drop your caloric intake from where it is now, to keep on losing.

Doctor controlled diets have done a much lower calories per day (800-1000) with really no adverse effects - when the person in question is at a higher weight like you (and especially me!) are.

Funny tidbit: there's an episode of My 600 lb Life where the person (Pauline maybe?) is in the hospital and she tells Dr. Now that she's starving and she wants a turkey sandwich. Dr. Now snaps back with: "You're not going to starve - you're 600 lbs."

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, I only play one on the internet.

I know you are! It is good you to see you getting used to the idea. I remember you were so bummed we they had to move away. I told you that it give you the opportunity to go on trips. Hope you have a blast too!

Parisfox Still here. Just chillin...I am trust trying to maintain and not gain. Waiting for the warm weather to come in so I can get some energy, inspiration, start my outdoor workouts. Cycling to and fro. Hopefully, I can loose the final 20 lbs this year to put me well into Onederland this year. I am still chanting your mantra ...never give up!

So I guess I'm the odd one here, I think for a man you are not eating enough so I do agree with your wife. Sure you can eat this low for awhile and keep losing but it will eventually stop. I have done so much research on the optimal amount of calories for me and my husband, we are both in our 40's, I'm 5'8 and 6 foot. I would never want him eating 1500, me on the other hand have found that if I eat 1400/1500 calories I do lose weight (as long as I don't cheat) I feel so much better. I use to eat around 1200 sometimes less, it would work for awhile but then it would stop and I didn't feel good.

Personally I think you should be between 1800/2000 minimum, you should still lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, which they say is the healthiest way. I think the way your wife said slowly adjust it up is smart too.

I've also seen videos of doctors saying that most people are starving themselves and when they put people on diet plans they are making them eat a lot more calories then they are use to. They also said that they will gain a little at the beginning but then they will start losing because their metabolism kicks in, which you are concerned about.

Here is a link on calories when doing low carb http://www.mydreamshape.com/keto-calculator/.
