Hello Everyone!

I'm back and am reporting back 4 hours in the time I was away, so within 10 hours. Not bad considering I was couch surfing the entire time. I don't know if I'll get one done tonight. I'm still on the Christmas train energy-wise, so it's very possible.

I can say I came back with a mild turkey bump, but I have a feeling that will be gone by the beginning of next week, especially if I throw in a few hours of Callanetics.

I also got to see my fabulous chiropractor (one I've seen since I was 4), and he did his magic. My hips are now in place and my dislocated tarsal in my foot is too, which apparently was my symptom for plantar fasciitis, in place of the usual painful heal, from landing on it so hard a few years ago. So I'll work on that too. It's been a week since I've seen him and most of the tenderness from the work is gone. So exciting!

Welcome back CosmicGirl! I know what it is to get swept away and have to come back and start all over again. I find it easier to be patient with myself when I do this though. So, I know you can keep it up!!!

Another 10/10 session in. Yes Jigglebuster, I am definitely having to be more patient with myself this time. Slowly improving though and hope that consistency will help. I do love Callanetics and when I come back to it I always wonder why I ever went away...

Help!

It's cold here and my floor is even colder, which is making me not want to get down on it, despite feeling the urge to do my Callanetics. Blasting my heat is not warming my floor.

Do any of you have some suggestions???

Hi everybody! I hope itís ok to butt in on your thread? Iím at a really bad time in my life health wise right now, and the doctor wants me to lose between 50-75 lbs...... He suggested walking and I did that today, but Iíd really like to also try Callanetics. I canít afford to order any books or videos right now so I was wondering if I could just learn by watching on YouTube? Iím having a lot of problems with my feet even after my injections, so I want to try and focus on doing Pilates and yoga more so than walking, and Iíve been wanting to learn Callanetics for awhile but just never got around to it. Now with my bad joint pain, high cholesterol, etc, I need to crack down and get an exercise routine in place.

It sounds like Canada is experiencing tremendous cold, jibblebuster. Sorry it's brining you down. Cold floors would not make for comfortable exercise. I do mine on carpet, so maybe you can put a towel or two in the dryer and then lay them on the floor to exercise.

Welcome, gayandgray! I'm sure YouTube will give you some videos to work from. Maybe the public library or used bookstore will help. Anyway, welcome!

I don't think you can find a full program of Callanetics on Youtube. They've done a good job of keeping it off of there. You can find examples of individual exercises here and there. If you are in the States, you'd be able to find the older videos and books for very little.

Hello everyone, back from the holidays, took a week off from Callan but back in gear this week with 2 workouts already, going to get the third in, I hope today. My aha moment yesterday.. Replaying Callans advice in the secret of Callanetics in my head, I got higher in the ab workout and then rounded chest into my belly and went very slow. Counted to 100 both feet down, 35 with one leg up, both left and right, both legs up 45.. what I found was this is much more difficult and easier to do at the same time.. easier because I didn't feel like I was fighting my body, much more difficult, you could feel that deep burning .. today abs are sore, so not sure if I will let it rest or try again today!
I am using the work out in the Callanetics for your back book. Takes less time than the regular `1 hour work out but I am learning how to work this while not forcing through the pain... why do we do that...

The second had store was a good outlet, found 2 of her books there, the rest I found through amazon, though in used condition they were in good enough shape to bring many years of reading and referencing pleasure.

Another session done this morning. It's become easier to sit on my heels for pelvic rotations as well as the thigh stretch. Slow but steady progress!

Ooooh! That's great! Yeah it's those small little changes that are such huge indicators of how our bodies are healing! Congratulations Bronwyn!


Since I saw my chiropractor, I am slightly more flexible and feeling a tremendous amount of potential, unlike before, and the hip and behind exercises seem so simple; maybe because I'm not trying to work around the dislocation and the pain I was in.

But even before my bones popped out, I struggled with the floor stretches more than anything. What Callanetics did for me, at that time, was to get me from sitting one my tailbone to sitting on my sits bones. I was so excited! Even my leg position had widened slightly. I suspect something was out, even back then.

I say that, because the struggle just to hold my position isn't as strong. I can relax into the stretch. I'm not going very far, but I'm actually relaxing! And so I look forward to see where Callanetics will take me from here!

I woke up yesterday to discover, I have lost my turkey bump, and bloat from all the food I ate that doesn't work for my body (it wasn't a lot of junk, they just eat differently than I do).

The temperatures have gone up from -42˚C to -10˚C so now that it's warmer, my floor isn't so cold anymore, thank goodness!

Hi everyone!

I just had a lovely session, and today was the day, since I dislocated my hips 2.5 years ago, that I could straighten my legs in the stomach exercises. I'm very excited! Maybe I'll be back to doing Super sometime in the spring or summer! That would be nice!

While doing the stomach exercises, one of my tendencies is to tighten my calf muscles, so I really need to be conscious of this and make sure to keep them relaxed throughout the exercise. If I even take my eye off them for a moment... BOING! They tighten up. Ha ha!

So glad to hear you continuing to heal, Jigglebuster! Have you tried the warm towel on the floor?

Another session this morning though with the squats I did yesterday (strength day) it was uncomfortable to do the pelvic wave/leg exercises. I'll be sore for another few days! Although I can't see it, I feel muscle hardness in my stomach and my waist seems to be smaller, too! So thankful that I finally found the correct exercise rotation that I'm willing and able to stick to!

Thanks! To be honest, I don't have a dryer, so no, but I do think it's a great idea!

Oh wonderful that you found your correct exercise rotation! Just remember, to not push yourself with Callanetics. If your integrating other exercises into your routine, you need to be diligent about recognising the line when to pause or stop. And congrats on the body changes!!!

I had another really good hour, where I could really feel how my body is healing. Even the thigh stretch feels more even, and easier to do. I wasn't able to totally straighten my legs today, but I've gone through the leg straightening stage before, and I know it will go back and forth until my legs just feel comfortable "floating" up there. I will see what my body tells me, on whether I need to take a day off or not, but at this point I think maybe I do. With my body healing like this, I'm able to get the technique more, so the work is going deeper, which is good, but i need to remember to be gentle.

Ohhh, wow! I think I'm in slow-mo today. My "hour" took and hour and fifteen minutes.

As predicted, my legs were straight again for the second stomach exercises, and I was able to straighten them for 10-20 pulses at a time for the lower abs (I just did some straight, then bent them for another 20 and straightened for a few etc., until I got to 100). Being able to straighten them the entire 100 will come in time. The floor stretches were harder for me today, though, with my outer hips wanting to cramp (something that used to happen in my 20's). I make sure I get plenty of magnesium and potassium, so I can only suspect it's just my hips adjusting. A lot of the exercises felt easier today, which might be due to my taking a day off.

I took another day off yesterday, and was back at it this morning.

It's impossible not to see how much and how fast my body is healing! the floor stretches were so different. There was another crack on both sides that travelled down to my inner knees as I positioned myself on my sits bones. What happened with that was my tendency to tilt and sit on my tailbone was eliminated!

I still have a ways to go, but wow! I feel like I might get my body back!

I could do more straight legs on the lower ab exercise and those kneeling leg exercises have never felt so controlled! I've felt strong with them in the past, but something just feels more like ... like it's all working the way it's supposed to.

Such good news on your progress, jigglebuster! I have done absolutely no Callanetysince 1/11. Anxiety with my new position at work has been torturing me to the point I just want to stay in bed and do nothing, but I need to get moving. Today was a better day so hopefully I will exercise in the morning.

Bronwyn, I know you know this, but Callanetics is amazing for helping to lower anxiety levels, especially 10/10. One of the things that helps me is telling myself I'm just going to do the warm-ups. What happens is I end up doing the whole thing, but even just the warm-ups can help you with your anxiety level.

I hope you have a better day today too!

On my end, my hips are going crazy and are cracking all over the place. It's like a domino affect where putting some into place causes the others to fall in line. There's a difference between good cracking and bad cracking, and this is the good stuff. It made my muscles tighten up a bit, so stretching was harder, but I was more upright with my hip and behind exercises, so it all balanced out.

I needed to go really slow again today. I kept rewinding the dvd, so I didn't feel rushed. I don't do well with time constraints. Ha ha! But I find my technique and level of concentration is better on slow days like today.

Been doing the Callanetics Express which is only about 17 minutes a day but steadily getting better. Very good for anyone getting back into Callanetics...

Iīm back since a long time. So last year I started again with Callanetics and did circa 70 times. Last months of last year I had to stop training and now I will start again.

I like to train my muscles to burn fat and so I started with power exercises (is that correct in English) so it is the Jillian Michaels Shred for beginners. I will do this and my question is, can I do this workout and second day Callanetics? Does that fit together? Or will they both workouts work against each other?

Hi CosmicGirl and SharonRose! Good see see you as well as Jigglebuster who has been a mainstay on this board.

SharonRose - this is my routine six days a week and haven't had any bad side effects. There have been days I've been more sore than others but it may have more to do with the muscle group I'm using in my strength exercise. Monday 3 mile Walk Away The Pounds and 15 minute shoulder/back. Tuesday 1 mile Walk Away The Pounds (to warm up my body) and 1 hour Callanetic, Wednesday and Friday are the same except one day is leg work and Friday is upper arms. Thursday and Saturday are the same as Tuesday.

CosmicGirl, I'll look into the express version for some days when I need an abbreviated version. Thanks for the info!

Jigglebuster, you sound a lot like me when it comes to patience! Hope you are feeling better today. Does the weather contribute to problems with your joints?

Another session yesterday. It turns iut I have a kidney infection which may have been the reason for my lethargic behavior. For whatever reason, I don't get pain with bladder infections so they usually progress until I have dark bloody urine. On medication for 10 days and return to doctor next week, so no exercise today.

Callanetics is a good co-worker with most other forms of exercises, since it works to strengthen the supporting muscles. Just make sure to take a minimum of one day off a week.

CosmicGirl, good for you! 17 minutes is 17 minutes more than nothing at all! Congrats on getting better!

Bronwyn, no, the weather doesn't have much to do with this. I'm narrowing down the cause(s) of the inflammation that pushes my bones out, and I think I've got a lot figured out. It's just a matter of waiting to see if what I'm doing will bring the inflammation down enough. I've already lowered my fructose to less than 5g per day, and that helped quite a bit; I'm taking B12 for a deficiency my mom forgot to remind me of when I moved out 25 years ago and that helped; and now I just bought a Berkey Water purifier, because even with my Brita, something was niggling at me. So far the ph of my water is better! So now I wait.

I hope you heal well! How long before you can start Callanetics again?

Today was a good day, but not such a flexible one. I went cross-country skiing for a couple hours the other day and my hips and inner thighs were a little tighter than usual. The good news is, I COULD cross-country ski without being in pain, or feeling like I couldn't bend in the right way, so I'm very excited about that! Anyway, I was a bit ahead of the video today, and I felt strong. I was even able to put two legs straight on the lower ab exercise for a count of 70 out of the 100 without my hips/ tailbone area freaking out!
