Stillman's rice diet?

Has anyone tried this one? It sounds good to me to try, once I get to my goal weight.

It's basically plain white rice, up to 1 cup each meal, plus fruit juice (no), 3 oz fruit. (or you can sub vegetables for some of the rice.) Still no fat, no salt.

He claims that this helps shape the body/take inches off. I don't understand his explanation- something about pulling fat out of the muscles...

This is from "The Doctor's Quick Inches off Diet" book. I would recommend anyone to get this book- used on Amazon for .01 plus s/h! It has a chapter on the original QWL diet, but also many many other diets to try. There are some crazy ones like The Egg Diet, which is one egg, three times a day. 255 calories ( I would go crazy), Cottage Cheese Diet: 4 tablespoons cottage cheese, 3 times a day 180 calories... oy...

Anyway, the Rice Quick Weight Loss Diet is in a nutshell:
3 times a day:
- up to 1/3 lb of cooked rice (no salt)
- 8 oz fruit juice from permitted list
- 3 oz fruit

***If you find this diet too monotonous, you can add a moderate portion (1/2-1 cup) of one of the permitted vegetables (replacing some of the rice). You can also add cinnamon and sugar to the rice.

The other reason I recommend this book is that he give us a ton of options to add onto the QWL diet. You CAN add fruits and veg, or a slice of bread, or a daily cocktail. He also recommends that people alternate between the QWL and other diets for variety. It 's pretty fascinating!

I know what you mean.... I just love reading about different diets, no matter how crazy they sound! The older ones (like Stillman and early Atkins) are my favorites- the way they word things!

So have you tried the rice diet? I was thinking if you mixed up the right combinations it would be like desert. Does he really say you can add cinnamon and SUGAR? I do love rice. I'd have to weigh it out and see how much I could have during a whole day.

Lol how funny. If you let it get cold it would be resistant starch too right?

I trad that book this past weekend too. I also at the sugar in the rice diet when I read it.

One theory I have read about high starch-no fat diets is it takes a certain amount of fat for insulin to do its job- and it needs a lot if you are eating all rice. If you don't have any fat in your diet, it has to to pull it from your cells. How much? I don't know. Sounds a little wacky to me, but it is one of the ideas why a potato hack diet works.

Gina, I haven't seen you lately. You gearing up for round 2?

That does sound whacky..but interesting.
Pulling through on day 2 of Stillman's QWL. This is the roughest day for me, and it was the first round also.
Rice and sugar sound so good right now. lol

I haven't tried the rice diet yet- taking a little diet break. I see my nutritionist today and will find out how much body fat I've lost in the past month.

You are probably right Leanne, about the resistant starch.

Ooh I'd love to hear about your nutritionist! Are they on board with low carb? Good luck!

My nutritionist is great. The whole clinic is naturopathic doctors and alternative types. She likes that I try different ways of eating and listen to my body. She is supportive of Stillmans (short term) and wants me to increase my protein! Unfortunately, even though I lost 3 lbs since my last visit, my body fat % is exactly the same. I lost some lean muscle, probably because I didn't have energy to workout because I was eating so few calories. The plan is to increase protein to about 60g a day, and weight train a few times a week.

I'll hold off on the rice diet until my next appointment in 5 weeks.

I recently discovered canned smoked oysters. YUM! Trader Joe's has oysters packed in olive oil. I let the excess oil drip off and it's a delicious treat.

That is great that you go every five weeks. It nice for accountability.

I should start tracking my macros. Right now I have so much fat to lose I really haven't paid attention as long as I've been on a "plan". At one time I counted and logged everything like an obsessive crazy diet lady. I did lose 100 pounds but I couldn't maintain that lifestyle it took to much of my time. So instead of just reigning it in and keeping a few good habit I quit trying and gained back half the weight.

This time I'm being a lot more relaxed. I would like to lose it quick of course but I do have a maintenance plan ready that I know I can live with.

I'm not recommending this, but I used to make it over 20 years ago. I would cook rice in milk instead of water. When it was done, I would add cinnamon and sugar and eat it for breakfast. Delicious.

Two things that make me ravenous now are rice and popcorn. Actually, popcorn has always had that effect, although not regular corn.

I have become more sensitive to carbs over the years till I have to be almost zero-carb now.

May I ask, what does "diet hacks" mean or refer to? It can't mean what I think it does.

A diet hack is a quick weightloss plan that is not ment for long term dieting. It may not be healthy but it can be a tool to help break a stall or just to give a motivational jumpstart.
A lot of the mono food diets are hacks as well as a few ultra low calorie ones.

For example if you eat just a limited amount of plain tuna and lettuce with 2Tablespoons of cottage cheese everyday you will lose lots of weight. While it's great for quick weight loss it is not something most people would want to do for very long.
