Thanks, Shy, Mimosa, Kissa. We’re off on Wednesday to take my mother to the funeral & stay for a few days. My uncle was in his 80s and I think funerals for people who’ve lived a full life aren’t always especially sad occasions. There’s a sense of loss, of course, but not of a life cut short.

I totally agree, on such occasions there is more of a feeling thankfulness for a life well lived. Still hard for those who loved them.

I couldn't agree more about the celebration of their lives.

One of my 'life and soul of the party' uncles specified that at his funeral he wanted everyone in their prettiest outfits - and, as it happened in Summer - we wouldn't have done shame to a garden party.

Ex-Merchant Navy, PoW, worked on cruise ships - he reminded me of a phrase from an otherwise unreadable novel, "A smile like a lantern and a voice like Saturday nights". Yes - a real celebration of a life spent in dispensing warmth and love to all of those fortunate enough to cross his path.

My uncle has specified brightly coloured clothing too, Slow — and also spent quite a few years in the Merchant Navy.

How lovely.

Vicky left last night and is now safely home with her husband. She sent me some lovely flowers so I have those to brighten my day. I shall miss her greatly but we are in touch often. She left one pound lighter than when she arrived, a triumph when you consider all the fun we have had.

The funeral went smoothly, Shy — in fact, the weather was lovely, and my Uncle’s house is only a hundred yards from the beach, so I actually managed a little mini-escape for a few minutes.

We also managed to get a place for my father in the home that we wanted, that’s only a mile from their house, so it’s very easy for my mother & other friends & family to visit. Now we just need to argue some more with the NHS about whether they should be paying for it.

Hope they'll pay up Ailuros but who knows? Glad you have made some progress though.

I am off to Germany tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it, this week has been full on.

Missing Vicky and some emotional eating has happened. Hope I can stick with good foods in Germany.

Hello strangers!

Hope all are thriving, even with current difficulties.

I had a great time in Germany except the DH forgot his driving licence so I had to do all the driving, I do not enjoy German Motorways, very stressful. Came home 1/2 a pound lighter than when I left so I am very happy with that.

We are in Devon for a few weeks which is lovely.

We did arrive to an infestation of fruit flies in one room, not nice, but we think we've got it sorted now. I found a rotting apple core in a little used bin. Someone must have thrown it in there ages ago! Still it made me give the room a good clean, lol.
