Newbie but Oldie

Hi, I'm Laura. Just starting a low carb lifestyle for the second time. I lost 60 lbs the first time I low carbed and felt the best I had in my life. Unfortunately I never got rid of the fat in my self-image and sabotaged myself back over the years, plus I had 2 kids in the meantime.

So here I am at 50 lbs over the weight that I started with last time, a decade older and with a hundred to lose. I know what to do, but I need people to keep me honest and somewhere to vent when I want to emotionally eat.

Thanks in advance for the kick I need.

Good to see others are "restarting" again! I'm in good company,...and I'm thrilled, anyhow. Only 2 days into my "restarting",..and the keto sticks are turning purple (whoot!). That's encouraging.
Me: was on low carb years ago. Went from 180 to 115. Felt and looked great. Then life happened. Battled the "Big C" (in remission now going on 4 years). Fell off low-carb wagon.
Just turned 72. Keto is working again. Happy camper. Starting now from 142 lbs.

Hi All,

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks. I've been following a ketogenic diet since the first of the year to combat insulin resistance. I'm living proof of what excessive fruit consumption can do - at least in my n=1 experience. I'm a lifelong runner that considered myself in tip-top condition until I just started feeling crappy all the time late last year. Come to find out at my last physical (I have a smart doc who smelled something amiss) that although my blood sugar is still OK, it takes too much insulin to hold it there. Enter keto, and I'm feeling like my old self again. Acne is now gone, I'm back to my normal energy levels and feeling great.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, and thank you all for the interesting conversations and information found here!

Hello! I am so glad you are here.

I started my low carb journey last year but Christmas and birthdays and stress took me off track. It seems every time someone ordered KFC and pizza I felt deprived and I was off again.

Until last month after hitting 178 pounds I brought out all my information about LCHF and embarked again on this journey. I think all my friends are tired of my referring to myself as a Ketonian.

This year everything was going great until I hit a wall I had never encountered before. I was in a complete panic that I had done something horribly wrong. I was shakey, I got heart palpitations and I was feeling weak and wonky. I quickly bailed out of the LCHF way of eating. Thinking I had lost too much weight or gone to extremes I recarbed and tried again. But I only lasted 5 days and I was miserable. I thought I finally found something that works and now I can't go on. I have damaged my health and I was too afraid to let my family know I was on the point of passing out. Especially after singing the praises of a LCHF diet.

Thankfully someone pointed out it might be my electrolytes. I was eating salads, less processed foods and more veggies and not only did I cut out sugars but I had cut salt from my diet as well. I made up a batch of lemon water with himilayan salt and No Salt with a sweetener and... I am now back on track. Now is there anything else I should be aware of???? Sometimes I feel like this is all a dream and I will have awoken after having eaten my pillow and I will still be 178 pounds.

Hello Everyone!

Do not be fooled by my user name! I might be SizeSixChick here but in real life it's more like Size14/16Lady. I figured I'd make my name my goal. A little about myself: just had my 39th birthday, I've gained over 30 pounds in a year and a half and would like to lose 40 by my 40th birthday. I have lost weight with Atkins before. In 2004 I lost about 35 lbs and in 2011 I lost 55 lbs. My main issue now is having many false starts. I am a fast food addict and LOVE hitting the drive thru after work. Also, my job is highly sedentary and stressful. I have a habit of starting strong in the mornings, having a good lunch and then reaching for snacks by late afternoon. I actually don't care for sweets but for some reason I just reach for the cookies that are there for guests. My issue is fried and salty things. I love fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Chips and dip. My big frustration right now is knowing EXACTLY what to do (Rotisserie chicken with cauliflower mash would be a great substitute) but I just don't do it. Also, when I was younger I feel like the weight flew off with low carb but last few times I tried I only lost around 5 lbs in 3 weeks which was disappointing to me.

Anyway, I found this forum and I hope chatting with like-minded people that know the power of low carb will help me out.

Non scale goals: fit into all of my old clothes! Not be embarrassed to be in pictures! Reduce the times I get called ma'am!

Thanks everyone

New here

Hi Everyone. lm so glad l found this site. lm hoping to meet some of you and go on this journey together. l've started the Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program, and l think this is the one. Been on it just coming up two weeks now and have dropped a couple of lbs. l know its going to be a long road but as long as the lbs are coming off then l will be happy. l have to figure out how post things in the right places here.l'm not to bright when it comes to things like this , or even still do my profile. lol. l think its great to have others doing the same thing so we can encourage each other along the way. lm 65 yrs old and my metabolism is so slow that l was having a hard time losing anything on a 1200 cal. diet. lve started this program at 193.4 lbs and am now at 189.4 lbs. l hope l can be an encouragement to you in some way. Thank you

Hey Betty, welcome aboard! You have found the most helpful board on the Web when it comes to support and recipes and camaraderie and those who will help pull you back up if you fall off the wagon! Glad to have you aboard.

I'll be 64 in October so I get the whole metabolism thing. I've been doing LC for 16 years now and managed to lose, then maintain that loss, pretty well during that span of time. Which is not to say I haven't had a few slips and slides along the way, but I always hang out here and it is a large key to my success.

Any questions, just ask, someone will be happy to help you!

Welcome Betty- Look around and see what forums your interested in. Don't feel you have to follow what others do. Its your journey. It's great to ask for advice but in the end you really have to find what works for your body and lifestyle. Best wishes.

New to Bulletin Boards in general

Hi, I hope I am at the right place to introduce myself? As a 70+ diabetic who is also overweight, I had found the low carb life several years ago. My blood sugar levels went down, weight went down. The Carbs called and I got weak. Reverse weight up and blood sugar up.

Nine days ago when my BS was again over 300 I decided to return to low carb lifestyle. 9 days later, sugar levels dropped 160 points and weight down 6.5 lbs. So glad to be back on low carb living. Needing support I began to search the web.

Then I found this site. This looks absolutely great and just what I need.

Never having participated in bulletin boards, etc. I'm not sure I am entering information at the right place. Hope I am. Thanks for being here.

Thanks and more questions

Hi Puppy Love, Thank you for your suggestion of the Golden Years, I will look them up.

I do have just a few more questions. I actually, through the years, have already lost 60 lbs. I've bounced back and forth on dieting, but stabilized around 225 for quite a long period of time.

Should I list my starting weight at the origanal 285 lbs. even though it has covered a period of about 10 years? I would also like to join the over 100 lbs to lose group?

Is it possible to join more than 1 group?

Thanks again. My apologies for the delay in my response. I was hit with a stomach virus, but am feeling much better now. PS, I really like your user name Puppy Love.

thanks

Thanks for the advise and really great looking links!

Being really a novice at bulletin boards, may I ask, how do I join in on a new group like the Golden years?

I found their group, just not sure how to join in.

Thank you
