Where are you getting these ground beef prices??

The first few pages people where talking about ground beef for 99 cents a pound. Not even close here in Florida, closer to $4 a pound, and if you can catch it on sale at Aldi's or Save-A-Lot it's still 10 bucks a 5lb chub. Funny, Florida is a major beef producing state. Great thread though!

This thread was started in 2008, so those are the prices you're looking at in the first few pages. Obviously prices have gone up since then, so unless you can find a some close dated ground beef marked down for quick sale, you won't find any ground beef close to that price any more.

Luckily, as LCers, we aren't looking for the expensive extremely lean ground beef (93% or higher), since using 80% or 85% goes much better with a LC way of eating, and is less expensive - those percentages have been on sale at various stores in my area lately for anywhere from $2.49-$2.99.

But there's still plenty of really good deals on meats and poultry out there to help you get through a financial crunch week. Having said that, it definitely helps if you have a deep discount grocer nearby, such as Aldi's.

For instance, this week Aldi's in my area has chicken breasts for $1.69, 80% ground beef for $2.79/lb, and chicken leg quarters for 69 cents/lb. Their eggs have been 51 cents/dozen for several weeks now. (In Aldi's online ad for the sale that starts 5-10, they have chicken drumsticks for 69 cents/lb. The online preview ad for the next week is an abbreviated version, so they may have a lot more LC friendly foods on sale in the regular ad that comes out on the 10th.)

I want to go back and read this whole thread when I have more time! I did notice that some prices went up, like the price of ground beef, but others have gone down. I eat a lot of eggs, and they are under $1 a dozen here, and have been as low as 59cents recently. I can still get chicken for 99 cents to $1.29 lb, and tuna hasn't gone up much either. I can squeeze a dollar until the eagle squeals!! I think I could make $20 last 2 weeks!!

Eggs here are so cheap. I got some last Friday and paid $1.16 for 36 eggs! This was at WalMart and it's just plain old regular eggs. I'm a single mom feeding 5, 6, 7, 8... who knows how many kids a day!
We go through so many eggs.

Also I have recently found Ruler Foods. It's like a discount Kroger. I can get so much cheap stuff there.
Fresh produce is always cheap there and I scour the markdown bin first.
Always check for the marked down meat too.

Geez, eggs here aren't that cheap. I just bought 2 dozen at Walmart today, 2.68/lb. Of course, they're cage-free, free-range, organic diet, etc. but still, the regular eggs were still well over a buck a dozen.

I was surprised because the shelf said they were $2.xx something which thought was a great price, but when I was checking my receipt at home I saw they rang up for $1.26.

WooHoo I'm going to make some quiche!

I also got a package with 2 rib eyes for $15. They were nice size, had been marked down. I got them for myself and my son because we're both anemic.
I hadn't had rib eye in a long long time, but splurged on them for Mother's Day.
The cashier said You got a great deal when she saw the rib eyes.

Nice find! I got a big fat T-Bone steak yesterday for 7 bucks marked down, and I thought that was a decent deal. My son doesn't care much for steak (???!!!!) so I left the other one for someone else to get a deal on

I said $2.68/lb about the eggs...ergh, but y'all know I meant /dozen haha...

I love finding the markdowns in the meat dept, and grab them whenever I can.

Subscribing! This thread is awesome. I want to price stuff in my area and come back with my results (I tried, but my local grocery store/Wal-Mart don't post their fresh food prices online )
