I love the BFL program!! Managed to do it for about six weeks once but got derailed when I ran out of money and had to quit my gym membership and couldn't transition to working out at home. The muscle training regimine is AWESOME though, I think one of the best, easiest and most intuitive I've seen.

Sassy Red, check out Planet Fitness, they have memberships for $10 and $20 a month. They are not in all areas but you can look for locations online.

I've lost 249 lbs, lowered my body fat by 36% and lowered my resting heart rate from 110 to 65 beats per minute. I was told that I'd never be able to go to the gym again after an auto accident. I've been back at the gym since Sept. 2009 and completed my first official 5k on 9/25/10. I have PCOS and recently stopped eating Soy.

Just beware, they dislike body builders of any kind there. Don't even think about grunting or dropping any weights or else they'll sound the lunk alarm.

If you don't mind me asking (and sorry if it's dumb!) - how do you get a flat stomach by lifting weights? Do you do floor exercises too? I sadly don't have enough time to do a full program before college starts.

You need to lower your bodyfat%. You can have the most defined abs in the world but if you have a layer of fat over them you're not gonna see em.

Definitely going to look into it!

Right now I either walk or run about 4 miles a day about 4 days a week and I lift weight. Alternating upper body with lower body. It's working with the exception of my belly

Off to Muscle Matters I go

Thanks!

Not dumb at all!! This sounds silly but, Abs are made in the kitchen! LOL Eating a clean diet with the appropriate cals will help you lose body fat. Then the abs appear! I hate saying this, but, I dont do any abs work... I should though. I use a lot of free weights, with that I engage my core and that really tightens things up. So far its working, so I'm just rolling with it

Thats great! I love doing upper and lower body splits. I do one day upper, one day lower, and then a Full body workout. Keep your diet tight. THAT is the most important part. Losing body fat will show those abs, you can do 1,000 crunches a day and it wont matter if you have squish on top of them.

I loved Atkins. I only did it for about 4 months until I started BFL.
I wound only lower your fats IF you are going to start eating carbs.
I eat moderate carbs/prot. and low fat. I shuffle around my carbs and fat depending on what I'm doing in or out of the gym. So days I lift I have more carbs, and less fat. And days Im off from the gym I have less carbs and higher fat.

I am not planning on upping my carbs at all. At least not yet. I am still needing to lose alot! I think I'll stick to Atkins for a while yet before I start playing with the carbs.

THANK YOU!!! I need to go research BFL.

And once again, you look smokin' hawt!

( @fatisyummy... well, thank you Ma'am! )

Re: getting that flat stomach...

Ditto what jamistar77 said about getting a nice flat stomach.

For me, I focused on getting bodyfat% down. Good clean diet. That will expose the trim stomach. I didn't do any "abs" work either. No situps.

I incorporated "core strengthening" exercises as part of my full body workouts and that made sure everything was getting strong and fit *while* the fat was coming off.

90% of the time, I did mainly Planks and side planks. That's it.

Pablo, flanks are so hard to do!

But I will take your advise and DO THEM!! Besides the planks, what are other core strengthening exercises

@12yrslater

LOL. yes! In the beginning, EVERYTHING was hard for me.

Just getting *dressed* to exercise was a chore!!!

But I used (as a reference) some of my successes in other areas of my life where I had started with nothing, and over time achieved amazing success. I said to myself, "Why can't this diet and exercise be the same."

I started small.

With everything.

I couldn't even jog, so I walked. Every few minutes, I would jog for 20-30 seconds, then I would walk again. Over time I was able to jog slowly for 1 minute. Then 1.5 min jogging then walking... until I was able to jog continuously for 2 min. Fast forward 7 months and I was running a mile in 8 minutes.

Same with doing Planks.

I remember all the blood going to my head just by getting down on the floor. LOL I started by holding the plank for 10 seconds, then it grew from there.

That is the power of incremental progress!

Well, when you are ready, there are a lot of people in the muscle matters section that will help you along. I was freaked out when I thought of eating carbs! I was only eating about 10 total carbs a day right before I started BFL. I did OWL for a couple weeks to ease myself into the carb realm. When I started BFL I would first start by only eating oatmeal and other complex carbs around my workouts, then I would switch to Atkins for my last few meals of the day. I only gained 2 pounds of water weight when I transitioned, but it was gone before I knew, and so was a bunch of stubborn inches! It is scary to think of switching your WOE, but depending on your goals, its worth it.
