Here's my Irish version of this dish. I've made it twice now for something different from my usual Asian version. This way the flavor reminds me of the boiled/steamed sausage-potato-cabbage buttery meal my Mom made.

Bake a medium potato in microwave until firm/tender (you want it pretty much all the way cooked but don't want it too mushy, but not too hard either). I don't peel mine to save time, but you can peel before cooking if you want. Make sure it's cool enough to handle and then cut up in medium-small pieces.

Nonstick spray in skillet & heat on medium. Cut up 2 oz. turkey italian sausage (the kielbasa stuff that's in a "ring"). Fry until it's getting a little crispy.

Pour in about 1/4 c. chicken broth to deglaze bottom of pan. Add in the bag of coleslaw mix and the potato. Salt and pepper (I add a few dashes of Old Bay just cause I like it in this). Stir and turn heat down some. Cover with lid and stir occasionally.

Remove lid and continue frying til it's how you like it. I add more salt and tons of black pepper and about 1/2 T. butter stirred in.

Approx. 400 calories for the skillet.

A new addition -- tzadziki! I bought some at Costco yesterday and tonight I whipped-up some cabbage with vegetables. When it was cooked, dh decided to try the tzadziki just to see if it was any good, and voila! It's pretty darned tasty! We now have another addition to our staple DD dinner. And there's only 25 calories per tablespoon!! (At Costco I also picked-up some small pita-burgers -- 1/2 pita pocket, 1/2 small ground sirloin patty and 1/2 slice of American cheese for 150 calories -- quite a tasty addition to the meal!)

Here was my version from yesterday's DD. I made a big batch and that is what i ate all day.

1 whole bag of cabbage slaw 100
3oz rotisserie chicken from walmart 160
half shredded zucchini 15
1 cup mushrooms cut up 10
I used about 1 T light italian dressing to coat the cabbage 15
minced garlic
onion powder
ground black pepper
sea salt
2T habanero salsa 15 cal

The whole pan ended up being 321 calories, no cheese and didnt even need it. It is sooo good!!!

Just finished cooking batch with no cheese, doesn't add anything to it for me.

Cabbage, red onion, a little leftover veggie soup to cook it in and some thai seasoning. Under 200 cals for the whole thing

You may not want the cheese part... I find I have to be in the mood for it. But the meat/cabbage stirfry part can be the base for a lot of different sauces and spices. My DH did one with pork and a few drops of smoke flavoring and some worchestershire that was amazing! We also keep three asian sauces and two curry pastes in our fridge, plus lots of spice mixtures, bbq sauces, and hot sauces in the cupboard, so we can eat meat-and-veg lots of different ways.

The nice thing about meat-and-cabbage is that it's really easy, and cabbage is very cheap and filling.

I made this last week, and it was really, really good. I ate the whole bowl. I like cabbage, though. My mom used to make a creamed cabbage that I just loved, and I wish I knew how to make it, but she's gone. I know it was thick and creamy - must have used whipping cream or some type of thickener in it with cabbage and salt and pepper. Was sooooo good!

I tried a nice combo last night for dinner. I really enjoyed it. I pan-fried two slices of bacon, cooked the cabbage down in the grease, then stirred in 1.5 T. Philly Cooking Cream, Italian flavor. Thanks for mentioned that stuff, Ouiznoid. It's yummy!

The word "boiled" is a red flag. I don't use any water when cooking my cabbage. There is enough water in the cabbage already. I just sautee it in a little fat, usually butter or bacon fat. Keep stirring from the bottom, so it all gets cooked.

Tonight I'm going to try it with bacon grease -- sure makes it sound good!! Might crumble a piece or two into the mix, too. Plus broccoli, carrots, onion (mentally searching the fridge!)... celery... maybe mushrooms... DH can add his marinated artichoke hearts...

Honestly if it gets to the "boiled" stage, I just add chicken or beef broth and call it soup instead!

Today I made a whole bag of broccoli slaw, 1 shredded zucchini, 1 can shrimp, 1cup mushrooms and I made a reaaly good sauce out of 1 aldi light cheese wedge, 1T far free Mayo, 2T Walden farms blue cheese dressing and franks hot sauce. Poured it over everything after it was nice and cooked down. Really tasty. The whole thing is under 300 calories. I ate half for lunch and the other half will be dinner.

I make my own meatballs with ground turkey and turkey sausage and spices/herbs, no fillers but I haven't thought to eat them on DDs as I wasn't sure of the cal count. Maybe I should figure that out and figure them into my plan and have it in cabbage. Yummy sounding for sure. I don't have the Laughing Cow cheese though. I should look for it next time I shop. I have only ever had cabbage with bacon and/or soy sauce which made me retain water pretty badly. I will try it with just meatballs or chicken and the cheese to flavor it instead of my variation - I bet I won't get the water retension that way! Sounds yummy. I wonder if this would go with with breakfast like with scrambled egg or egg beaters mixed in instead of meat????? I think I might make it part of my UD breakfast tomorrow. Yummy.

Sorry, haven't been on this thread in quite a while!

Yes, the freezer section is in the back. Honestly, I was suprised myself to find it there. The stock changes sometimes, but that was a great find.
I am in Miami.
