BBB had food? you americans have the darndest things

I was going to say (or repeat): chunky salsa and also tomato sauce.

My salsa is 25 cals for a 1/4cup, and my tomato basil (classico brand) is about the same, though they list 50 cal for 1/2cup.

a LOT of flavor for few calories, yummy healthy red veggies... all good.

Also, if you can find low fat sausages (pork or chicken), I find 170cal per sausage ones.

so on a DD, I just had:
1pkg tofu shirataki noodles (40)
1/2c tomato sauce (50)
1.5 sausage (255) cut into strips and then cubed (illusion of volume )

Im totally full and feel like I really ate *something*.

These are all staples for me

At a BB&B???? That had me going for a moment, until I thought of all the stuff that World Market has that I think should be hanging out in a fridge.

Yes, BBB has a whole grocery section, but nothing perishable. You could go nuts in there with all the overpriced, gourmet, yummies.

Let me tell you- that isn't all together a bad thing. I have easily spent $50+ getting yummy stuff that I didn't really need. The only things I've gotten at BB&B that isn't a diet hazard are too expensive coffees and teas and the Sonoma Jack cheese- everything else did not promote weight loss

I usually get my K-cups there because of the coupons that I get in the mail. Still trying to wrap my head around a BB&B like that!

Thanks Kimmie! I just saw it again myself the other day and though, huh, thats totally do-able and I can still have my yogurt after

I've found the 170 cal sausages both at my grocery store (fresh) and at costco (pre-cooked, in the area with cold meats/salami etc).

Nature's All Foods freeze dried organic blueberries (they have other fruits, too).
Nothing but blueberries.
1 serving is 10g (o.35oz) and is 35 cals; 9g carbs; 3g fiber.\
Now here's the kicker: I weighed out 40 berries and it was only 6g and it was about 3T by volume.
So if you wanted to add 10 or so to a super low muffin or something, totally doable on the cals and carbs!
I got them on amazon - they're called:
Nature's All Foods Organic Freeze Dried Blueberries, 1.2 Ounce
Oh and they're really good, too. Just dried blueberries with nothing else added.

Ideas that have been helping me:

1) I have been making fresh tomato juice. I think its really called "tomato water" - google those two words - because it ends up being a clear pale yellow juice, not like V8 which is made from tomato paste. I either lightly salt it, or add a splash of Claussen pickle juice! Its a nice cool alternative to broth when its hot outside. Not sure on exact calorie count, but one medium tomato is 22 calories. I use two of them at a time. Its probably less calories than that, because I strain the pulp.

2) Sugar free Jello with a few tablespoons of sweetened Greek yogurt drizzled on top!
I got the idea from a recipe that actually said to puree' cottage cheese in a blender, pour into a pan, mix up the jello from powder, and pour the jello on top. This gives you a lot of volume to eat when you are hungry, without many calories.

Saw the broth conversation a page back:

For beef broth, specifically, I really like the Knorr brand beef stock concentrates in the little tubs. This is the best flavor of beef broth I have found so far! (Kitchen Basics is my fav for chicken). There is a nice amount of gelatin in them, so it has a great mouth feel.

I just ate a huge pile of fresh asparagus for 30 calories. 5 oz at 6 cals an oz. I put some fresh lemon juice and just a tad of spray butter and salt on them. Delish!

ETA: cooked, not raw.

Agreed, re: asparagus. I had a bunch, grilled, the other night. You do need some oil on it, btw, to grill it. I've tried it without, and it doesn't grill as well. Other than that, I looooooove it!

It grills well on the George Foreman grill with nothing added. Maybe because it's pressed between two heat sources.

I found a good protein bargain for DD's

Costco:

From: High Liner Premium Seafood
Flame seared wild Icelandic Cod with lemon, pepper and garlic.

2 lb. box with 7-8 individual servings. Cooked and a nice 5.2 oz. serving
to heat and eat. Lot's of seasonings with garlic, onions, lemon, garlic oil,
lemon juice solids, paprika. Calories a mere 140 with 25 grams of protein.
Only 2 grams carb. for the seasonings.

We have been shopping and looking for down day caloric bargains.
Will be happy to share when we find something yummy and low.

I love coconut macaroons but they're very high carb/calorie usually.
I found these on amazon: International Harvest Organic Gluten-Free Molto Buono Macaroon, Coconut, 5.5 Ounce
Not bad, but really dry and not really the typical macaroon flavor. I would describe it as a molasses flavor.
It's a gluten free cookie, 66 calories per cookie and it uses coconut palm nectar as a sweetener.

I just wanted to pass this along as a possible DD cookie since it's easily 1/3 the calories of a regular macaroon, and it's gluten free.

Dole banana dippers. I haven't tried them yet but I plan to buy them next time I go to the store. A package of 4 is 100 cal. I think they'd be fun for my mini meals.

I really like these on a DD. The broccoli and cheese version is good too. The one with corn was too many calories IIRC (I never bought it).

I think it was just to thaw the frozen broccoli tray, dump that in a pan with 1 cup of chicken broth and around 1/4 cup of unsweetened plain almond milk and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
I don't remember if they added a tablespoon of fat free sour cream to it or not. (at the end so it doesn't break or curdle or whatever sour cream does lol).

another easy peasy way to do this is to simmer frozen broccoli (and I add cauli) in chicken broth, and then add a couple of Tbs of salsa con queso--blend if you like--cheezy, spicy goodness--and cheaper than buying the green giant singles--

I use Tostito's Salsa Con Queso and it's really a calorie bargain at 40 calories per two tablespoons. Plus, it's very good!

shirl--I like the flavour of the Target Brand salsa con queso even more than Tostitos--they have Poblano Pepper, regular and White queso--and they are all 35 cals/2Tbs.
