I think son will like this better than almond milk for his DD workout protein shakes. It's a little more calories, but he needs that pick-me-up after hitting the gym on down days.

Starbucks (or any coffee shop) if you like frappes/frozen drinks:

Blended iced americano (any size, it's just espresso over ice) with s/f syrup and 1T half and half (40 cals).

Thanks You could do the same with coffee and it would also be lighter on the wallet! I like the stronger flavor though.

Ok admittedly I'm disappointed in the small size of these bars, they're more like a small, kid-size fruit rollup.
But the flavor is good and they're nutritious:

Go Raw brand Real Live Apricot Bar
50 cals, 1.5g fat, 1g protein, 8g carbs, 2g fiber
Ingredients:
sprouted organic flax seed, organic apricot, organic raisins, organic date, organic lime juice.

gluten, wheat and nut free.

Dottoe, the iced Americano sounds good.

When I go into a coffee shop to get plain coffee I always order an Americano. At many places if you order plain coffee, they hand you a cup and point you to a thermos. Besides, I can make coffee myself, but I can't do the fancy schmancy stuff.

Jicama tortillas.
No, really.
It's just thinly sliced jicama, 8 calories per "tortilla".
HEB here has them, but I googled and they're super easy to make and many stores seem to sell them.
The ones I got are about the size of a small corn tortilla, and they held up well to grilled chicken tacos today.
They have that mildly sweet, apple like taste that jicama has, so that may be off-putting to some.

I'm finding jicama more easily here (it took FOREVER to find even one store that carries it, and now I know several).

I am going to look into making tortillas... maybe hashbrowns too

On down days I have found two new products that have really really helped. There are 40 calorie bone broth sterile pacs made by Pacific. 40 cals and 9 grams of protein. I mix in some miracle rice and some hot sauce and they are great.

I've also come to appreciate the thin slim bars Netrition sells. 40 calories and very filling. I can probably make the same thing with oat fiber myself, but these are convenient for the office.

I find that two bone broth pacs and two thin slim bars (160 calories) will do perfectly for breakfast and lunch.

Ouizoid, I want to try making those squares. I have oat fiber which seems to be the main ingredient and enough of the other stuff to put something together.
I may try a flax/chia egg.

Thanks.

Let me know your recipe if you make them. The only trouble with the ones you order from netrition is that they get moldy in the mail unless you spring for fast shipping which I never do. I'd love to have a recipe

It'll be interesting to figure out the starch/fiber ratio since there so many different thickeners that kind of act the same. I only have xanthan and glucomannan so will play around with those.
My husband is having his hip replaced today so will try it next week.

Do all the squares have the same texture as brownie? The ingredients look the same for both.....

So, back to those thin slim bars; I discovered that Thin Healthy Mama recipes rely on oat fiber. Finally, after trying to find the best way to use this fiber....

Sheri Graham has a page of THM recipes on her blog and I made the brownies. The only change I made was flax egg instead of egg whites (I need to play with this a little more).
I would have preferred chia egg but discovered that I'm out of chia.

She also has a 'master mix' for vanilla/chocolate cake which I might try.

The basic flour ingredients are just oat fiber, coconut flour and glucomannan.

I'll let you know my best results both in texture and flavor....I'd really like a blondie.

those thin healthy mama recipes basically are my oat fiber recipes. She asked me if she could include my recipe in a cookbook and then made a gazillion dollars from it. I guess I don't have a right to complain but I feel pretty bitter about it.

So you could pretty easily make a thin slim bar.

Mine came out a little gummy so I may reduce the gluc. Coconut flour tends to give structure so I don't think that's the problem.
I honestly don't know what oat fiber does; is it gummy? will it rise on it's own? can I use it alone for the flour?

Sounds like you've done more experimenting.

One thing for sure, it was easy to mix it all up and pop it in the oven with little mess and clean up.
It makes me less tempted to order any bars.

I had to throw those bars away. They were too gummy. Her recipe has only 2 T each oat fiber and coconut flour so the gluc is way off. Ugh.

i use 1/4 cup oat fiber, 1 tsp glu, 2 T coconut flour, baking powder, erythritol, 1/3 cup liquid eggwhites and your choice flavor davinci syrup, with maybe a little water if too thick. nuke for a couple of minutes. sometimes i sub flax or almond flour for the coconut flour.

If you have a Keurig, there's a product called Kettle Kups.
They're broth that you can make in the keurig. And they're actually good!
I believe the beef one is incorrect because it says 5 calories, but the chicken is 20 cals and the rest of the info is the same, so I call them all 20 cals.
They're a little expensive for constant use, but as an emergency stash, they can be handy.
DH was even making them for me when I was sick lol -if HE can do it, anyone can
They are strong enough to make a 10-12oz cup, too.

Good to know.
What aisle do you find them in??? With coffee and tea?

Lipton Blackberry Vanilla tea bags. So good. Add just a hint of sweetener and it's a perfect, calorie free dessert tea

there is a product called SeaSnax--little crispy seaweed sheets that have been salted. I have found that the chipotle flavoured seasnax, 15 calories per package, are the PERFECT cravings killer. I don't know if it is the spice, crunch and the salt or if it is some basic nutrient that is provided by seaweed, but if I have an intense craving to eat, one of these little packages is guaranteed to put it to bed. Thought I'd share in case it works for someone else.

Mixed review for Artic Zero. The whole pint is 150 calories and half a cup is 35 calories. I tried the maple vanilla and the salted caramel. Both flavors are good. It's not very creamy more like a sorbet (kind of icy), but hey the calorie count is right and the flavor is good. I've had the 2 pints for a couple weeks and just take a spoonful here and there. I can't do that with a pint of ice cream so I guess that is anther plus.

I've never seen Halo. I'll have to look for it.

I see Whole Foods has it. It has a lot more calories than the Artic.

If you pop the Arctic Zero in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds, it gets a lot creamier! My favorites are cookie shake and hint of mint flavors.

Just a lurker who is looking for recipes on this thread, thanks to all who contributed!

How about chinese food: steamed vegetables and shrimp- although the online trackers vary the average is 1.5 cups for less than 200 calories.
Hot and sour soup - average tracker data has 1 cup for less than 100 cal.

low calorie hot dogs or sausages for less than 100 cal mixed with a whole bag of Boar's Head Sauerkraut (35 cal). you could get two small or one large meal out of that for 235 cal and bonus get your fermented cabbage! (could even add mustard for small additional calories and still be under 300!)

Canadian bacon 3 slices for 60 cal. put it on a 100 cal english muffin for a small but satisfying sandwich. bulk it up with some lettuce. or just roll them up in lettuce.

There is a cinnamon tea I like to have in the evening to quell hunger pangs. If you can spare the calories and add a splash of any dairy with a touch of sweetener it is a very nice "dessert". Reminds me of a cinnamon roll with icing when I do that.

Sorry if any are repeats!!
