I love JUDDD and it has really helped me get to my maintenance goals, added to the excellent health benefits it gives, so i'm looking to keep DDs in the mix but really hoping i can live the rest of the days by HDE and finally give up counting, measuring and logging!

One of the simplest things in the book that really resonated with me was the bit about eating the best bits first - I always save the best bit until last and eat many mouthfuls that are sub-standard to get to the 'good stuff'! That seems so silly now! So i've adopted this straight away UD or DD and it has worked well

I'm hoping to do full HDE starting next week which coincides with our two week Easter break here, so i won't be on a schedule and should be able to wait and eat when hungry.

Thanks so much to OP and everyone else, really hoping this will help me quiet the diet chatter

Wishing you all a great day be it up, down or somewhere in between
great job getting here!!!

Thanks so much Leanne, how are you getting on? Hope the skinny jeans are getting looser and looser for you Agree with you about not throwing out the scale, not yet anyway. Done well i'm sure HDE absolutely wouldn't make you put on weight, but I think it is important to keep an eye on not going back up the scale too much. I am hoping eventually to use the scale every now and then as one part of lots of ways to measure my maintenance

Hope everyone is having a great day, Dee

I was always a daily weigher, but have stopped daily weighing in maintence.
I weigh about 3-4x times a week. I almost never weigh on weekends. I just like to take the weekends off. Weird, I know. I know how my clothes fit, how my rings feel. I can usually guess my weight within a pound before I even get on the scale. I bounce between 121lb and 126lb and I can definitely tell if I'm at my upper or lower end without needing the scale to tell me.

I'm still in the fight. I want to lose that that last 5 just to see what it's like. I have to be strict with JUDDD for losses but still try to work in HDE when I can. I still fight with my mean girl and I KNOW when I'm over eating . It is not a quick fix but I feel with a few DDs I will be able to maintain with mostly HDE and my scale. That I won't through out. My pants tend to be too stretchy.

Just an update on my experiences with HDE. I've been following hunger driven eating/intuitive eating for 4 months. I'm in no way doing this perfectly but I will say that at least 90 percent of the time I eat only when I feel hungry. And I eat whatever I want. Which most of the time is LCHF. Eating good fats and vlc just is what makes my body run and feel the best.

I will guess that during this time I have overeaten 4 times, to the point of thinking THAT WAS TOO MUCH, because I was either distracted. (eating out and visiting or watching a movie) Once I specifically remember, we were at a buffet and the seafood was to die for.

Without really trying, I find myself intermittently fasting 16 to 18 hours most days, with an eating window of 6 or 8 hours. Over the months, my body has just naturally drifted toward this.

Most important of all, I FEEL so much better! I was so sedentary and sluggish. I knew that if I didn't get off my butt more often I'd be one of those old ladies with a cane or a walker.

I am happy to say that because my body feels better I like moving more. I spend at least an hour each day either on my bike, dancing to music I love, stretching, resistance training, and yeah, even going for a walk. I have never been a big fan of walking, not sure why.

How much have I lost, you ask? I don't know. I hate letting that piece of metal gage how I am doing so I only weigh when I go to the doctor. But I'm wearing a 16/18, down from 28/30, so that's good enough for me!

Thanks, ladies! I haven't "tooted my own horn" about this big change very often because I really wanted to make sure it wasn't like so many other times, and just another failed attempt on changing my WOE. But I think that after 4 months (and 1 week!) I've pretty much settled on this lifestyle. It feels good. And I feel a lot better!

One thing that has changed, like complete turnaround, is eating breakfast. When I was back living with my bad habits, I ate too much at night. That was the first thing that changed when I got down from 330. I no longer ate at night after dinner on most nights. So that made me SO hungry when I woke up! I had bacon and eggs and usually a flax muffin and my HM mocha.

Now I'm not hungry until late morning and then I eat a smaller breakfast. Either LC pancakes or mostly an HB egg and 1 bacon, coffee with c/o. This usually puts me in that place where I feel satisfied. This alone has really blown my mind. My big LC breakfast was too much food. I didn't need all of it to feel satisfied.

Anyone who is interested in HDE should read and reread Josie's book. It makes so much sense and has really helped me be healthier.

I'm still using a lot of the lessons from this book. It's going well. This helped me lose the last fifteen or so pounds, and I've been maintaining more or less this way for a year now. Slipped up five pounds last month but working on taking it off.

I am still JUDDD ing but try to follow her advice on up days. I still have times when I overeat. But the difference is now I recognize what I'm doing. I did take a maintenance loose JUDDD break and didn't regain. But now I have reassured my goals.

I also enjoyed "overfed head" I think the information I've learned by reading these books will defiantly help me maintain.

I'm still doing this! And I've never been so at ease with food in my life. I read Josie's book and lots of other HDE/IE stuff out there and really became intrigued.
It was a bit rough in the beginning, I think the biggest hurdle for me was just plain being honest with myself. When I went to eat, I asked myself if I was really hungry and really thought about it. If yes, I would move on to thinking about what would really taste good. (and be healthy food of course).

If I knew it was only head hunger/bad habit, I would then have to decide if I was going to eat something anyway. In the beginning I did, but MOST of the time (that's over half lol) I didn't and I waited to have something. The trick for me was to have something to do immediately that would enable me to STOP thinking about food. For me, its doing some cleaning or turning on the music and dancing like crazy for half an hour or more. And of course, riding my bike a few times a week!

I was VERY patient with myself and respected each decision I made along the way. As time went on and I stuck with the simple, but important rule (don't eat if you're not hungry!) and it kept getting easier and just started to feel natural.

I don't know how much I weigh. I decided months ago that I wasn't going to let that hunk of metal rule my life and how I felt about myself. If it didn't show a loss, I would beat myself up mentally and then go eat. But not anymore.

I go totally by how I feel. I have more energy than I ever remember having. And I've gone from a size 28 to 16/18ish.

What has turned into a major transformation took time. Ever lasting does not happen over night and it takes a lot of work.

When I started HDE/IE my goals were to feel better and have more energy, and also to STOP thinking about food every minute of the day. I have happily say that I have achieved both!

You really should Jan! I get more inspiration and a feeling of "it's okay" peacefulness reading your posts than I did reading any of the IE/HDE books or articles. I think you'd be great!

Thanks everyone! I am almost halfway through the book. I have read these types of books before, and back in 1998 i lost 40 pounds doing an IE program. I gained that weight back because my doctor started me on medication that was known to cause weight gain-well apparently not known to that doctor or myself, but a later doctor told me that. At the time, i couldn't figure out why I was starving all the time. I just felt so out of control while on that medication.

So, I am making a real effort with this. I have lost 3.6 pound in the past 3 days. I would love to ditch the scale, but I'm afraid to. I obsess whether I see the number on the scale, or whether I don't. I really like the way Josie explains things. She just makes it more practical and understandable.

Wow, you are doing awesome! Did it take long to lose that much? Are you eating anything you want, or are you staying away from certain foods? I would love to get rid of the scale and have peace about it, but on other occasions I have put it out in the scale and I think I obsessed more about my weight than when I was getting on the scale every day.

Thank you, Faithgirl. Over 3 years ago I lost 75 lbs mostly with low carb. Then I stalled, but kept all the weight off, which was a first for me. This past January, I read Josie's book and did more research about HDE/IE and really liked what I learned. During this year I have gone from size 20/22 to 16/18. Have no idea what the scale says.

More than anything, I just wanted to feel good, have energy, and stop thinking about food 24/7. So I committed to TRYING to eat only when I was truly hungry. Not starving or ready to eat the siding off the house, but just pleasant hunger pangs that made me think about what would taste good.

In the beginning if I did eat without hunger, I made a conscious effort not to beat myself up about it and respect the decision I had made.

I eat mostly low carb, high fat but really do have anything I want. Its important for me not to think of food as good or bad, but rather healthy and not so healthy.

I know its really hard to give up the scale for most people. We are just so desperate to see the number going down that we give it a lot of power. It was counter productive for me, because even when I was eating "right" and not "cheating" sometimes the scale didn't indicate that I was doing well. I would get frustrated and disgusted, which led, sooner or later, to eating out of disappointment.

HDE didn't happen for me overnight. But I made slow and steady progress because it just feels right to me.

I wish you the best if you decide to give this WOE a try. I really can't say enough wonderful things about it and how it has changed my whole relationship with food.

Carol, thank you for the lovely compliment...
I know you have everything it takes to figure this all out for yourself too. Your positive attitude and big heart inspire me every time I come to this forum.

Good luck, Stacy. I know this is such a cliche', but if I can do it, anyone can!

Good luck from me too, Stacy. Jan is our resident expert on this, and also such a great friend and cheerleader. She is always inspiring me to keep at HDE, and I'm slowly getting it!

Ah Carol, what a very nice thing to say! While I hardly consider myself an expert, I do know that HDE is what has worked for me after YEARS and YEARS of struggling with my weight. I SO wanted to quit obsessing about food and just feel good again. both physically and emotionally. And it has definitely done that for me. I know you, and anyone else who wants to try this WOE, can do it.
Its not easy, but it is so worth it!
