Terri, I think you can do IE or IF with any eating plan. I even did LC with WW Points Plus successfully. It's all up to the individual.

I saw a cheap copy of Overfed Head online and ordered it. That's still where my main problem lies. I have been reading the PDF on my computer but I would also like to also have an actual book that I can carry around with me, and highlight, etc.
Yes Caroline getting started is my problem too. It is going OK food wise, but need to add some exercise. I am going to look at DVD's at my next good will trip. I can't dance, and I think I would like to learn through a dance exercise routine.
TerriMM, sounds like you have a good plan in place!
Jeanie lots of hugs to you today!!

Hi Grace! The nice thing about doing an exercise DVD at home is you don't have to have the steps perfect, just so you're moving.

That's what I'm hoping for! I would be so embarrassed if anyone saw me dance. Kind of like Elaine on Seinfeld.

Yesterday was a perfect example of my eating problem. I did very well all day. When I got hungry, I made a big salad. Lots of veggies, and some chopped up deli turkey. It really satisfied me. Then for dinner I had calf liver, (I am one of the few who love liver!), carrots and brussels sprouts, and rice pilaf. Also very satisfying, and I was no longer hungry. But I wanted a PB&J sandwich. I rarely eat bread because of my diabetes, but the craving was so strong and I couldn't beat it. I made a half sandwich, and then I felt great. No thoughts of food after that. But why did I have to have that? I know I felt better because I ate what I wanted, but I was not hungry....it was a craving. I have to find a way to get around this in the future. Something to do after dinner to get my mind off food. If DH wasn't here, there would not be bread OR PB in the house, but he's here to stay, so I have to learn to adjust to having his food around. I did it so well for so long. I don't understand why I'm weakening now.

Carol-
My own experience is that 'cravings' are entirely in my mind--that is, as you note, I'm not hungry, but I want this item.

The only way I know to deal with it is to distract myself as fast as possible. The more I think about that P&J sandwich, the stronger the craving becomes, and eventually it's impossible NOT to eat it.

To distract myself is tough, and different things work for different people, but as long as you 'think' about the item, you will eventually eat it.

Why do these cravings occur? It's not because of some 'need' in the body. Often it's some hormonal or emotional trigger that we can't even identify. I don't try. I just try to eliminate the thought ASAP.

There was a thread on here somewhere about why we eat when we’re not hungry, I’ll try to find it. But one interesting thing she found in the book is after dinner a lot of us watch the news, which is seldom “good” news. So there we are watching “bad” news and craving “comfort” food, makes sense. And I have noticed that many times when I do get that late night craving that’s exactly what I’m doing and I’ll change the channel.

Okay, second day back on track with IF"ish" IE. Average 15 hours between last meal and first has gone well. This means I eat lunch about 11ish so I'm hungry in the last afternoon, but my afternoon snack has made me not exactly hungry at dinner time. After the holiday I might see if I can get into a two meal a day routine.

Nice to hear Terri I need to get back to more consistent fasting. Since the time change I seem to be having a harder time delaying my first meal?

At least you’re keeping up with the exercise. I waited and waited for the time change because that’s usually my best time for starting my morning routine, but this year nothing. So here I am making plans for Monday. We’ll see.

Leo, maybe it's the fact that I rarely eat sweets than I was craving that PB&J. Maybe in my mind, it was my way of craving dessert. When that happens, I need to tell myself that I can have it the next time I'm hungry, and then get busy doing something else.

Jeaniem, you are right about exercise. It's very uplifting psychologically. We all need it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. My pies are done, my veggies are chopped for the stuffing, and I'm ready for tomorrow morning!! Can't wait til the whole house smells like turkey roasting!!

Oh my! Almost had charcoaled turkey! LOL Put the turkeys in the oven, but accidentally had the oven temp too high. 20 minutes later when the house started to fill with smoke I checked and realized my mistake. Call to DH to help. Got the smoke out of the house, the oven turned down and now we're good to go. Can't say my turkey skin isn't crispy! LOL That's almost as bad as the year I put the turkey in and forgot to turn on the oven. LOL

So how did everyone do? I am very proud. I filled my plate once with everything. No food was disallowed. Ate that and did NOT go back for seconds of anything. I was comfortably satisfied but not Thanksgiving stuffed. I even had a one inch piece of pie with whipped cream. Then I sent all the leftovers home with my step-daughter, except for some turkey that we will eat today. And I didn't eat anything the rest of the day. IE, IF.

WTG Carol! And love the new pic.
I had small samples of everything, except pie. I had some LC pumpkin fluff already made up, so I had that. I made my big splurge on my mom's homemade rolls. I ate til full also, but definitely not like past Thanksgivings.
We have lots of Turkey left but that's about it.
I'd say we did pretty good.

I just finished a Kindle book that I thought was free, but after clicking on it realized it was 99 cents. I'm glad I made that mistake because I really liked the book.....Lean Fast Diet by Stephen Reed, about IF. The first half of the book was a little boring, but then it got more interesting, explaining things I never realized before. It's basically about 16:8, but touches on macros and calories too. I am considering also getting another book of his that is $2.99, but am wondering if it's going to be the same information as this one.

Grace, the old pic was several years old so I figured it was time for a change. When I look in the mirror, my face doesn't look as fat as it does in this picture, LOL and my bangs don't look so crooked. LOL I am what I am!

Good Morning All!
Glad everyone had a lovely holiday. Ours was also wonderful. Sunny and crisp day was perfect for barbequing the ham to go with the Turkey and trimmings. Almost pulled a Carol, forgot to turn the oven down Caught it about 45 min later, actually made for a great turkey!

Love the new Avi Carol.

Can't wait to hear the stories Grace.

How was your holiday Jeanie?

Best Holiday wishes to All!!

All righty then, I weighed in for the first time in five weeks. UTI and Thanksgiving in-between. Up 3.1#

DH wants to start South Beach, so I am making compliant meals for him and partaking of what I want. Not really following the diet per se just using the DH plan to not have all the not so good choices in the house for a while. Back to putting as many hours between last and first as possible and all other IE concepts. Have to admit the sugar cravings revived after a weekend of crappy eating were a bit of a challenge. Today I’m down 1.2#, so hopeful the gain is more of a temporary indulgence bloat.

I’ve decided to get back to the weekly weigh ins to keep myself focused through the holidays. I do plan to start the SB exercise plan just to give me something new to play with for a while. It’s pretty low impact and seems very doable. The key here is to start.

How is everyone else recovering from the holiday?
