At least we managed to take my mother on a little trip to the seaside while we were there. She wouldn't go out while my father was at home.

So sad Ailuros, such a hard thing. My father went quickly which was such a blessing.

Yes, Vicky is still here, her DH is with us too for a while then he goes back a couple of weeks before her. We are having a great time and enjoying Devon. They go up to Yorkshire for a few days tomorrow and then we'll all be in London for a while.

Weight is holding steady, though I don't know how!

I'm sorry about your father Ailuros - sometimes there is no option to residential care no matter how much someone might wish to be at home.

Shy - such good news about the biopsies.

Cindy - will Vicky and her DH nip into the sculpture park near Yorkshire (IIRC)?

Slow, they'll be with my family in York and are travelling by train, so I doubt it this time.

Was ill yesterday! I am never ill. Was taken to lunch at a fantastic restaurant with dear friends but I was sick before I at the first bite. Had to sit and watch them all eat wonderful food. My Godson and his brother were only too happy to eat my food of course .

Home and went to bed where I slept for the best part of the next20 hours, only up to visit the bathroom. Sorry TMI but I am so cross. I had been looking forward to this for ages it was one of my birthday celebrations and my for my Godson's engagement.

Grrrr.

Not an easy task, sorry Ailuros.

Vicky and her DH are with his family this evening but tomorrow we are all meeting up for a BBQ with old friends.

Then going up the Shard on Sunday evening celebrating Vicky's birthday.

Have a lovely weekend, Kissa & Vicky.

We’re heading home for a few days. Still haven't found a suitable place for my father, so I’ll be trying to make some progress remotely next week.

The problem isn’t so much finding a nice nursing home, but finding one that has any space. I’ll be on the phone again tomorrow trying to make a bit of progress. He’s been in hospital a month now.

The hospital staff are great, but at some point they’re going to want the bed back, and I worry that when that happens, they’ll put pressure on us to send him anywhere that has space, whether we like it or not.

Unfortunately!!! I do hope something comes up soon. It's awful really cos you are almost waiting on someone to die so there is space. So hard for everyone

Hi, just popping in.

Ailuros, sending you lots of good thoughts, you must be under a lot of stress trying to sort something out for your father. My thoughts are with you and your family. xxx

Everything else: well, I am going through some hormonal changes which have caused rapid inexplicable weight gain, mood swings, sleepless nights, inexplicable pains, hot flushes, etc. Awful! I really thought at 41 I would be spared this all for a few more years, but it seems nature is not kind! All my clothes feel tight, I feel unattractive and emotional. My poor DH is being sweet and patient! My Gyneacologist Dr was very matter of fact and sent me on my way without any information or any suggestion of help in how I can feel better and get my hormones balanced. Thank god for the internet! Hopefully things will be more balanced soon.

Sending my love to all of you ladies,

xxx Chloe.

Bless you Chloe, sending hugs. You have wonderful DH beside you which is wonderful. What I do know is that you are not unattractive. You are a beautiful, delightful, strong intellect woman. Hold that thought!

Hormones are a pain! I hope you can find something that helps. If I’d known how horrible it was and how long it would last, I might have tried harder instead of just waiting it out.

I'm going to second this - I'd no idea that hot flushes started so long before menopause and persist for so long afterwards.

Also - on HRT front - I don't but looking at the instance of osteoporosis in my siblings I'm now wondering if I'd have been well advised to consider it.

I had hot flushes, but the real problems for me were depression and total lack of energy or resilience. I just felt totally wiped out for years. Sorry, Mimosa, not trying to scare you! Just that if hormones or something else help, it’s worthwhile!

agree with the others I didn't know how bad hot flushes could become as my hot flushes started in my 40's too. By the time I was in my fifties and fighting all the Other menopause stuff as well as hot flushes that made me pass out, I gave in and went on HRT. OMG what a turn around I felt like myself again

Prior to that tho I did herbal stuff which also helped so that's definitely the place to start. Sorry we aren't trying to scare you just, hopefully, prepare you

Who would be a bloody woman lol

Thank you all, my lovely UK friends!
I feel it is somewhat of a taboo to talk about IRL...
I am happy to hear anything that has been of help for you, and willing to try everything.
Today is actually an ok day so far. I have been having ups and downs for about 5 months now. At the beginning I thought it was all the stress due to the wedding preparations, but now I think it was the hormones all along!

My uncle died this morning, so I’ll be heading north again in a few days to take my mother to his funeral. I spent yesterday booking the transport for a yoga weekend in Narbonne in October and added in a day by the sea at Collioure. It’s nice to have something to look forward to while things are so bleak with the family.
