Hi again

Sounds like a good plan, Cali! And I agree that any loss or even maintenance is better than gain!

And Iakaren, it's nice to hear from you again! I have found that this plan is the best plan for me, too! I think it is about keeping those cravings at bay.

Cali, You are inspiring me --
What I'd like to work on is getting back to my workouts. For most of my life, I've been one to keep to a regular exercise schedule. But since I started this latest job, I have found that to be very difficult. I am very active and I always get my 10,000+ steps a day and I know that is a good thing, but I miss my weight workouts and my walk/jogs. I was able to fit in 2 walks last week so that is an improvement and I want to try to keep that up!

Have a great week everyone!!

I sometimes lose energy on a hard day with CAD. Has anyone thought, or tried, filling a CM with the"bone broth" that is one of the current diet fads? It kind of makes sense to me as a healthy option, but I was wondering if it would work into my CAD routine.

4 weeks on CAD!!

Hello Everyone,

I just found this site a couple of days ago and was so happy to see such great helpful and inspiring posts!!

I just started (again) the CAD, 4 weeks ago and have lost 12 pounds!! I bought the CAD book in 1998 and lost 60 pounds!! I maintained that for several years and felt great!! Then life happened and among other things I had 2 knee replacements (in my early 50's) 3 years apart and gained it back and then some!!

So now I am doing the CAD again. I forgot how little hunger and cravings I had on it. I know this is the only way for me to lose weight. I have to do something because I am insulin resistant and diabetes run rampant in my family!! I def. do not want to be on insulin like my mother is!!

I find that I get more hunger if I eat breakfast so I do LC lunch and my RM daily.

Thanks everyone for all the great input!! You have taught me so much!! I always thought that you could drink coffee with half and half anytime since it says no carbs.but I think I confused Atkins with the CAD.before I re read the Heller's book.

I want to try the low carb bread but am afraid I will get those awful cravings again. I finally got past that weird feeling from my body adjusting again to this great program!!

Hi all....the weekend went well, I had a large CAD meal on Saturday and really enjoyed it.
Back to LC on Sunday and was fine with that. I do enjoy my LC meals also.

Janie....2 walks is a great start, maybe ad in one day of weights per week to start. Once you start you'll pick up very quickly. Getting 10,000 steps a day is wonderful, nice going!

iakaren....bone broth sounds very healthy and low carb. I would give it a try and see if you can work it in. I've always wanted to make some homemade broth so let us know how it goes.

leeshel....welcome!! 4 weeks and 12 pounds is amazing...... I would love to lose 3 pounds a week. Janie also does the 2 meals a day and is very successful with it also. Maybe that's where the magic is?
Sounds like you have this down just keep on going and you'll be great!

Try a slice of the low carb bread during your RM and see how it goes. If you don't you'll never know and if you feel weird or get cravings you'll know you just can't have it. If it goes well it was definitely worth a try.

Thanks

Hi Cali girl!!

Thanks for the idea of trying low carb bread at reward meal and checking it out. Can you eat it without problems?? Is it tasty?? There are so many more things that are low carb than their were in 1998!! I just wonder what tastes good to people on CAD. All peoples taste are different, I know but wondered who has input on stuff. I have already learned a bunch of things from everyone!! Great recipes too!!

I know that I will not continue to lose 3 pounds a week as I have been on this before but it is nice to see results to keep me going. I am like that. If I lose 2 pounds a week and none the next, that 2 pounds gives me the will to keep at it. I know I did not gain all this weight at once and it is not gonna come off all at once for sure!!

It is so great to have the support that you all give on here!! I am so proud of everyone finding their way to getting healthy!! It is not easy and we all struggle.

"Happy Spring"

Hi CAD people....I'm still doing my one CAD meal on the weekends, and it's going really good.
I was told that what I'm doing is more like a plan called Carb Nite. On Carb Nite you have a small window that you eat carbs once a week. Right now I'm eating one CAD meal in one hour.

I'm going to look into Carb Nite a little more and see if it will work for me. I'm not sure about going over the one hour rule. I'm sure there are more rules to follow so will see.

I hope it works for you. On paper, it seems like a great way to live, though i'd much rather have a full 6-8 hour window for carb indulging. (i tried it a couple of weeks.)

the book is expensive. i have it. you can message me if you want more information. i have it kind of all in my head at the moment.

i found such long periods of time between carbs depressing and made me more anxious than i already am.

i'm back full force CAD with several rules i need to stick to in order to make this work long time. feeling much better than i have in months.

Thanks so much, I did download some carb nite cliff notes lol. I'm going to give it a try but if it doesn't work out I'll be back to CAD. I'll just have to be more strict

What are your rules for CAD? I love CAD but I wasn't losing enough weight. When and if I ever reach goal I would like to do CAD for maintenance.

  1. i'm counting calories (1700)
  2. making sure to have 3 T coconut oil
  3. 100 g protein
  4. 1-2 cm snacks (no veggies, only protein and/or fat)
  5. once every 1 or 2 wks have a spike day (near twice my TDEE), with the following day 500-700 to compensate for the splurge
these "rules" are things i've incorporated over time. i've been on this plan for almost 2 weeks and loving it.

Good rules and I like the spike day followed by a low cal day, always keep the body guessing. Glad this is working for you, so nice to find a plan w/ rules that you can stick with. Your plan sounds doable and not to strict. With all the protein you won't be eating many carbs a day but yet allowing in the carbs you enjoy

as is, CAD isn't enough for me either. i've done it off and on for 15 years. for me, there needs to be more rules. i'm still fine tuning them.

all along, i'd always planned on coming back to CAD for maintenance. took me 3 years to settle back in here. i think i'm here for the duration. carbs are no longer running my moods. i am a work in progress.

A 60-year-old man, I have never gone on a diet until recently. I have lost 25 lbs. since January 14th on the Carb Addicts Diet (approx. 12 weeks.) Now 5' 8.5" tall and 167 lbs., I am at 16% body fat and still losing.

Such dramatic results have inspired now my wife and children to start in and I have come to the forum to find answers for them. I have read the entire 2015 thread and much of the 2013 thread finding much useful, helpful information.

Hi Piano --
How are you doing? I haven't been checking in regularly, but I am still doing he 2 meals a day and it is still working for me. My biggest challenge is that I want to workout more -- and I am accomplishing that to some degree but miss the working out as much as I used to. I appreciate the the progress and hope and believe for better! I have had a very crazy work schedule. I often feel like it's too much but I really don't see a way around it for now. However, I refuse to give up!! And, I'm grateful for this plan because I cannot even imagine not having the stability that this plan provides me! .... just no words!
Hope you are doing well --

Back again......CAD is the most successful plan for my life. And I have to get back at it. Scale went up over my stress time, so I have to get back to eating better. I will read up on everyone, and then join in.

This always was a pretty quiet thread.
I have 3 days on-plan, and need to keep at it.
The days of instant weight loss are gone, so I am going for slow and steady.

Hope everyone is getting along.

Hi!

I am starting CAD today and am very excited! I started CAD before- a long time ago- a couple of times- and started off doing well, but I let life get in the way and I stopped the plan. This is the only weight-loss programme that sounds doable for the long range. I am giving CAD my all now and know that I really want to lose this weight once and for all, about 40 pounds, and keep it off. Thanks for all the inspiration!

I live in England.

Welcome Knonty and SeaLady! It's great to have you here! We have a rather slow posting pace around here these days, but I've noticed that people tend to hang around for the long haul!
I"ve personally been doing this CAD lifestyle for going on several years now and it is the only plan that has brought sanity to my eating issues! Recently, my work hours have been crazy and I realized (for the first time in a couple of years) that I was beginning to gain weight. So I looked at what was going on and just adjusted my RM (evening) to refocus -- recheck my hour guideline and portions -- happy to report that I've already in a very short amount of time, lost most of the excess! For me, this plan works! Not just to lose weight, but to maintain the loss! I have found that I need to be organized and keep my goto foods in stock, which isn't so difficult, but vital to the success of my program. And, of course, to stay very close (though not always 100% perfect) to the rules. But for me, not having to deal with the insatiable food cravings (result of insulin resistance) makes all the difference in the world! And is the main reason I believe I will be sticking to this program forever .. One day at a time!!
So, welcome and hoping for lots of success for you on this plan! Again, glad you are here!
Hi to all the rest of you CAD people!! Hope things are going well for you too!!

How a Pizza Stone Changed My Body.

My kids got me a pizza stone for Christmas. Sunday night pizza has been a traditional treat for me for a long time and I have always had a supply of frozen pizzas at the ready. I have three kids and got two pizza stones; took one back. Thank God for such sweet kids, so much love... And wow! Was it delicious or what?

So I told my wife that I wanted to try one of the fresh-made ones from the deli section at Food Lion. "But they're huuuge," I said.

"Oh just get it and eat what you want and throw the rest out!" she said. So I fixed it that Sunday and man, it was not a disappointment. I ate 2/3rds of it. (She had one piece.)

Two hours later, I was back in the kitchen gettin' a handful of saltine crackers and some chocolate milk.

Two and a half hours after that I found myself again with crackers and milk and wondered, "What on earth is wrong with me? After all that food tonight how can I possibly be still hungry?"

That question I put before the Lord. I did not know how to begin to research such a thing. Soon thereafter, I found the Hellers' 1991 book on our bookshelves downstairs. No one in the family has any idea how it got there. I figure it was an answer to prayer. And now I've found the answer to that question. What was wrong with me is Carbohydrate Addiction leading to hyper-insulin-aemia and insulin resistance.

The whole family have put themselves on the CAD/CALP now and they all send skinny selfies to each other as they progress.

"Hey Dad," says SonBoy, "You gotta see Katie's latest skinny selfie!" He shows me on his smartphone. Such sweet kids, God love 'em, supportin' and encouragin' each other. Ruthie's clothes are fallin' off her. She doesn't wanna buy a new wardrobe yet. "Don't know yet where this is gonna end," says she. (Momma 's got three new dresses though.)

We still use the pizza stone at a reward meal. It's good. Throw most of it out.
No late-night crackers and chocolate milk ever again.

BD Parish,
Thank you for sharing your story! So beautiful -- is so great to hear of the fabulous affect it is having on your kids! And lovely to hear how much you love your family!
I did not have the book just appear! (That was super cool, by the way!) I ordered it off of amazon! But, finding this group which led me to get the book and discover this new way of eating definitely was answer to my prayers, too! When I think back to when I grazed the kitchen cabinets and kept eating to try to satisfy my cravings but couldn't, I feel so grateful to be free of that! I also like that I can enjoy the foods that I love and now have a way to not get back on that roller coaster when I eat them!
Recently, I gained some weight back (from veering away from the RM rules) but I am so grateful that in less than a week of being mindful, once again, of the CAD rules, the weight is almost all gone! And, I feel so much better! This is the only plan that I've ever been on that works for me!
To keep things going smoothly, I am cooking larger main courses (such as braised beef and roasted chicken, taco meat, chili, grouper chowder, etc) and keeping my low carb vegetables stocked. Also, I'm cooking larger portions of whole wheat pasta, roasted sweet potatoes, etc. now, when I get get home late for from work, I dont have to default to the higher carb foods and I am able to make better choices! My family is enjoying this change too!
Thank you for being here!

Thank you, BD Parish, for sharing your experiences with the CAD WOE. Best wishes to you!

You are right about the value of planning your food and meals, Janie! I just went to the grocery store to buy what I need to stay on this plan. Not having what I need can cause me to mess up with my eating.

CAD is a good way of life!

Hello everyone! I am starting the cad way of eating today and I need the motivation to get started. I have done cad before on my own and I lost 90 pounds but I gained 40 of it back. I realize now that It is the only way of eating that works for me. I know that I will be feeling better soon and losing weight again. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Welcome Bella! And, Wow!!! It's great that you have used this plan successfully in the past -- I know you can do it again! I feel the same way. CAD is the only plan for me, too! Glad you are here and I look forward to cheering you on and watching you progress

Piano, thank you! I had lots of family over all weekend and made several huge meals -- good food -- great company -- lots of fun! I did pretty well with my food plan but gave myself some latitude. I am not worried, I know I just need to keep the focus and be prepared. Tomorrow will be a very busy day for me so I'm bringing almonds with me and I've already planned my RM. I plan to stay hydrated, as I know that helps me too!

Have a great week everyone -- Keep posting!!

Hi, Bella! If you lost weight before on CAD, then you can do it again! Sometimes, it can be hard to stick with an eating plan because we all want to eat what we want when we want. But unfortunately, that way of eating does not lend itself to losing weight! Hang in there, Bella! You can do it!

Greetings, Janie! You sound organized and in control of your eating!

Today, for my lo-carb breakfast, I had coffee, scrambled eggs mixed with cheese, and frozen mixed vegetables. For my reward meal, I am planning on eating split pea soup, salad, a roll, and a piece of pie for dessert.

Best wishes to everyone on the CAD eating plan!

Hi Everyone!

I’ve been reading about your successes and your contentment with this as a life style as well. My hubby, who would like to lose about 30-40 pounds, would like to try this. He doesn’t have an overly difficult time losing if he sticks to a plan. His biggest challenge is finding a plan that he can stick with. He’s a sandwich guy for lunch mostly and although he can do salads, etc. some of time, he keeps reverting back to sandwiches for the long haul. He likes and believes in low carb and pays attention to nutrition for the most part, but needs some flexibility.

My question to all you aficionados: would you start with the CAP or CALP? Also, if you have any other sage advice from your experiences, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Terri! Welcome!!
I'm not really sure if I even know the difference btwn CAD and CALP! Haha! I only learned of this WOE a couple of years ago and I read the later version which I believe is the lifestyle -- at any rate, the instructions that I learned from the book coincided with the instructions posted by Kat at the begginning of this thread. Those are th only rules that I've ever known.
I think that one of the most important things for me is to aim for keeping my RM as the same meal as much as possible. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner) For me, one of the best parts of CAD is the flexibility so if your husband loves sandwiches, that could be his carb for his RM. And since he is good with salads and veggies, I could see him making that work,
Looking back, I think it was really good for me to read the book -- I identified with it on a very big way! I never knew about insulin resistance before and now my life has seriously changed because of this knowledge!
I know this doesn't answer your question -- I'm sure there are others who know more about the beginning diet -- I never needed to go further than what I found out with the posted rules and later edition of the plan! I wish you and your husband the best and hopefully one of the others will reply!
