LC prep for Hurricane Irma

Any thoughts on LC foods to have on hand that won't require refrigeration or heating? So far I have thought of:

Avocados
Nuts
Protein bars

After that, my mind is going blank! I think the stress of prepping everything is causing my mind to be scattered. All suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Stay safe!

Tuna in pouches or pull top cans (make sure you have a manual can opener!)
canned chicken, salmon, sardines, etc
little "no refrigeration" pouches of mayo, mustard, sour cream, etc
pork rinds
olives
pickles
peanut butter/almond butter
protein powder and almond or coconut milk (no refrig until opened -if you can get the 8oz pks of coconut milk, you can use a whole one without worrying about it)

Thank you Dottie. I love the coconut milk idea for coffee! I was worried about keeping HWC cold enough.

Thank you Sugar. I hadn't thought of shakes and instant coffee will be a must! Adding these to the list.

I appreciate the ideas!

I've got canned salmon & tuna. Lots of water. I also practice IF so I'm not very concerned about food. I didn't need to buy any food. I may also be staying with friends during the storm. They have a generator if we need one and it will be nice not to be alone.

I did order a couple new LED lanterns from Amazon though & they arrived yesterday.

I'm praying for a nice big turn out into the Atlantic.

Thank you. If the current trend continues (eastern movement), those of us on the gulf coast will be the lucky ones. I'm hoping Irma keeps moving east to spare my Atlantic coast peeps.

Stay safe Deb! I wish I had your confidence to not be worried about your eating. I am such an emotional driven eater, so I need a plan to navigate food in a situation like this. I hope I can get to the point that I can say I'm not concerned with my eating.

Thanks! You know, I might be the last person in the world that hasn't been to a Trader Joe's.

We are in the crosshairs here on the Treasure Coast; yesterday DH went to the store and bought more junk food than we have ever had in the house; fortunately I have a place I can get rid of it when this is all over---- if we have a house to come back to!!! I can live out of the freezer and pantry for many days, if needed.

If you like them, canned sardines, smoked oysters, etc. are great to have on hand.

Pepperoni sticks too.

There is a product called Nut Pods that is a shelf-stable non-dairy creamer, made from coconut milk and almond milk. It tastes remarkably similar to half & half in coffee. I got it at Whole Foods, which is pricy but to have it on the shelf "just in case" was good for us last week when SOMEbody, not mentioning any names (DH) forgot to put half & half on the shopping list when he opened the last one.

Hardboiled eggs would last in a cooler with ice for several days.

Above all else stay safe and have plenty of water on hand!

Cheese in wax (gouda, edam) also lasts a few days without refrigeration. Actually, any hard cheese like cheddar or parmesan lasts a few days without refrigeration... cheddar used to be one of our hiking staples, but it ends up in "crumbs" in the pack, so we switched to waxed cheeses.

Canned goods: Vienna sausages, corned beef, Spam, canned tuna/chicken/beef.

Also, put a cup of water in your freezer and when it's frozen put a nickle on top of it. If you have to evacuate, check the cup when you return. If the nickle is still on top, your freezer didn't thaw.

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone. DH and I went to Walmart this morning to stock up and did the best we could considering shelves were empty. It was mostly carby stuff missing (no bread, no peanut butter, no canned goods). I ended up getting pickles, olives, pepperoni/salami, cheese in wax, Atkins bars & shakes, avocados, nuts, and dark chocolate. LCing has it's perks.

I have been to six stores, no water. So, I am filling Ziplock bags with tap water and freezing them. Hoping for the best, prepared for the alternative.

Thanks again everyone.

Same here.

I need to watch some mindless TV show for a while. I can't take much more news telling me it looks like we will get a direct hit here. I don't need that until it is a known fact. I'm very glad I will be with good friends through this.

I am not gonna lie. We bought a few "comfort foods" but haven't gotten into them yet. I boiled some eggs have some Aldi low carb bars, have plenty of meat we can cook and veggies. We bought some water but filled all of our containers with water. I think we will be okay. We are now on the east side of the eye since it shifted so I am getting more concerned but we will do our best to ride it out. We haven't been told it is mandatory to evacuate yet.

Is everyone surviving? I hope everyone is OK with little/no damage of any kind.

I'm still w/o power but I'll be back at work tomorrow.

I'm safe and on day four with no power. Duke Energy says we should be up by midnight on Friday, but now we are hearing it might be Saturday or Sunday. Unfortunately, my HOA doesn't allow generators or gas grills, so we are roughing it.

If there was ever a part of me that romanticized the idea of living off the grid as if it would be like Little House on the Prairie, this experience has slapped by butt back into reality.

Thanks to all that helped me food prep. I have been losing steadily during the storm and the recovery!

Hope everyone is safe. When I went shopping to prep and I saw all these people buying bread and crackers, I was thinking what on earth will a low carber eat during this time? The only thing that was left on the bread aisle were the low carb wraps.LOL! I don't have them often, but I thought, perfect! I bought corned beef in the can. My mom used to make corned beef (canned) sandwiches for us as kids with corned beef, ketchup and mayo. I figured I could use the low carb wraps as my bread. Since I figured we would lose power, I bought 2 small bottles of mayo. Made me think about stocking up on packet mayo when I get takeout.
