Philly Cream Cheese

I was at Walmart yesterday and considering buying cream cheese. I noticed that Philadelphia brand (which is a lot more expensive) is the only cream cheese that has only 1 carb per ounce. All the others, even the full fat ones, had at least 2 g per oz. I looked at the ingredients and the cheaper brands have a lot more junk in them, which must account for the greater amount of carbs.

Philly is the only cheese that I buy. It is much more expensive here in Canada than in the US but better the best than all the rest. That extra 1 gr. I can have something else

Yep, I've learned that lesson the hard way - buy Philly. It's the best. Worth the extra money.

Next to that is Trader Joe's brand. It's pretty good too.

My problem with Philly (or any cream cheese) is that I can't stop eating it ! So, generally don't buy it.

I always buy Philly on sale. Here in Ontario, $2.49 is a real bargain. We also have a 'no name' brand that has 1g carb and actually less ingredients.

Just looked at my Philly package. Actually, it says <1gm, which is even better. In the past I have used other brands just because they cost less, cream cheese was cream cheese, but now I only buy what tastes the best, regardless of spending a little more to get it. I used to eat it on crackers. Now I either have it on celery, or sometimes just eat a hunk of it plain.

DH once said that he has never even tasted cream cheese. Ha Ha He inhales cheese cake. Guess he doesn't realize that's cream cheese. See? Put sugar on anything and he'll eat it. LOL

I just remembered the very long discussion we had in 2014 when Philly Cheese went up from 1 gm to 2 gm. Now I'm wondering when it came back down to 1 gm. and why. So are they actually changing the formula from time to time, or just can't make up their mind as to how many grams of carb it contains?

I love Philly cream cheese. I am not sure if they changed the ingredient list and that is why it went up to 2 gms but happy to read it is back to 1 gm.

Me too! I have been using the neufatchal cheese for just that reason, but this weekend my local store offered the regular Philly for $2.99 for a two pack. Hard to pass that up so was prepared to bite the bullet, but was happily surprised when I checked the carb count!

Same with sour cream. Daisy Sour Cream has one ingredient: cream. Others have all kinds of gunk in them. It's worth it to pay more for good food with fewer unknown ingredients.
