Jenn- no bacon??? what??? but if I had to nix something I love now I would have to say I wish my love for sugar would fade. I'm totally addicted, I know this.

thanks for the info! I'll wipe out the pan. Let me know if you try that cabbage and like it.

I did another Zumba class today, three a week is my aim, don't often make it though.

I haven't eaten yet today but am about to prepare a yummy salad. Will be a successful DD.

Last question- what is the prevailing opinion of the canned protein drinks ala Slimfast or other? avoid? use? don't matter? once upon a time I used the slimfast and found 1 can to actually be quite satisfying but the ingredient list leaves a little something to be desired maybe....
As you know, nutritional info for raw and cooked bacon is different. Generally by weight. True for anything you cook. So yes, if you're reading off the package that says 80 cal / 2 uncooked slices, it includes the rendered fat. My favorite all time link for figuring out content of foods:

https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list

Slightly glitchy, and it takes a bit to get used to, but EVERYTHING is there.

Bacon grease comes in at 897 calories per 100 grams. 39 cals per tsp.

IMO protein drinks are great. I switched to powdered whey because of price and a preference for chewy calories over drinky calories.

Phoenix-I am not doing juddd. I hear you on the sweets, my forever struggle! I wish the sugar made me feel horrible as I hear others say, more often it gives me a lift, not to say it is good for my health though...

I am doing so so on food, much better on the exercise front. I started yesterday with fasting until noon and then had an all protein lunch of assorted deli meats and a skinless chicken thigh, but soon after my stomach felt upset. I ate a handful of salted pretzels and it made my stomach feel better. Maybe a sign that I need to add in some veggies or something?
So progress but not perfection

Phoenix, I like the Advanced line of Slimfast. It is low carb (6 grams, not sure about the net grams as I am strictly a calorie counter) and high protein and makes me full and is gluten free.

I used to use the company’s higher sugar products but these days, I just consider the Advanced Slimfast one of the many kinds of protein shakes I drink as I like the taste of many of them.

I would research all the ingredients of any form of bottled shake you use to make sure you approve of all of them.

I’m just a lurker/cheerleader on this thread so just chiming in.

Thanks Sage and all! I do have powdered protein stuff at home in the wonderful intention of making my own protein drinks but I never seem to find the time. when I was doing slim-fast back in my grad school days it was very easy to throw two cans in my bag and have it there to suck down before attending anything that had all the cookies and pizza and goodies. I actually liked the taste of some of them but again that is because of my sweet tooth!
although now that I am (over) thinking about it again, I suppose a greek yogurt would be pretty similar, wouldn't it? high protein and just as much sugar but maybe slightly less other ingredients? hmmmm......

Ok sorry I am thinking "out loud". My yesterday UD was mostly fine but had too much salt. the scale this morning was only up 1 lb (I don't usually weigh after UDs) but I'm still bouncing in the same 3-5 lbs. I hate it when I get in to bouncy mode. Its been a few weeks now since I recommitted to getting back to weight loss mode and something isn't working. I'll stick with this though since I have a bad tendency to jump around when I don't see immediate results so for now I will stick to my rotations and count on UDs and DDs.
Today DD is fine so far- even made it thru bagel good-bye brunch (yes ANOTHER good-bye) by taking the bagel and wrapping it in a napkin and telling myself I can have it tomorrow with my coffee. would be nice if I find the self control to give it to the squirrels. Its noon and I've successfully fasted- drinking electrolytes in my water again. Maybe its psychological but I find it helpful. I have an appt to bring in my new car for its first service so it will be easy to stay away from food until at least late afternoon and by then the grumbellies usually fade so I'm feeling optimisitic.

Have a great weekend everyone!! Hiking for me tomorrow.

phoe: This is *the* place to think out loud. Don't stop! :-D

Sage: Glad to have you hear to cheer us on! Thanks!

Me: Nice DD today--broke my fast around 3 with my favorite feta salad. Planning an omelet for supper followed by some lupin flour baking. Keeping an eye on protein.

Leona - Hope you are feeling better, and dh as well. Saw your very LOW number on the Daily Weigh thread. So happy for you for that--but still concerned about the health stuff. Please check in when you can.

Yes we are both on the mend! Thanks
