Thanks for your Sarah thoughts.. I agree with you.. all the stress could have just done her in. She is better. I mentioned to Brett that they might want to get a recliner for her to sit in. His couch sinks down and there are only folding chairs.
I told him to get a good one if they do..no cheapies!

Scarlet is going to Christian Women's Club with me and one of the speakers is Miss Teen Rodeo Oklahoma! I am having Kassidy and Scarlet sit together. Good examples are important.

Have you made chicken paprika? I made it tonight.. not bad and pretty low carb except for a bit of flour in the sour cream.

We are going to our friends in St. Louis for the eclipse. Ron is getting us glasses..He is pretty weak right now as his O2 levels are low when he walks, even with oxygen.

Your daughterinlaw is missing out on all the fun!

Talked to Connie today. She said she will have to pay $1,000 toward her husband's nursing home care from their income. With the income from selling his folks tiny house, that will help. Not too bad..

That actually sounds very good for Connie. I think neighbor Ray was paying well over $6,000/month for his wife's nursing home. She's still living. I have no idea how they manage, but I have a suspicion that they can't kick her out, maybe. Not sure, though.

I'm so glad you're going to visit your friends in St. Louis!! I know Ron's time is running out, but how nice you can share your lives and friendship while he's still with us.

I haven't made chicken paprika! I might need because I love the sound of sour cream sauce for chicken.

Hope Scarlet enjoys her time with you at the conference. I agree about good examples.
She's so lucky to have you, Carolyn.

No I haven't ever even had chicken paprika. But anything with sour cream sauce has to be good. I'll have to look into that. I fixed chicken and dressing casserole for dinner with creamed peas. It was totally delicious!! I didn't fast today but started at 6:10 for tomorrow. My goal is 19 hours everyday. It's really helping get those extra few pounds off even with some free days thrown in. And that's all I can really ask for when I'm having this much fun!

When DH's parents went into the nursing home they had to pay the monthly fee until they ran out of money, then it switched to medicaid. How sad that all the money they saved to enjoy their retirement with ended up going to healthcare needs. And they got the same care before and after the money ran out. Moral of this story: spend and enjoy your money while you can!!!

Exactly...spend it now!!

Well, Connie and David weren't high income people.. He was a jr college teacher. They have no savings either. I think she will be okay.

Good for you.. Creamed peas sounds wonderful. 19 hours is a good long time.

I made That strawberry pie using a coconut crust by Sugar Free Mom.. we will have it when sh gets back from his meeting.

Carolyn is this your own recipe for chicken paprika?

DH would be so happy with creamed peas, but I'm not doing it. LOL

We had grilled chicken tonight, with steamed broccoli and a small salad. SO good.

It was in the Better Homes and Garden cookbook. The recipe called for some wine, but I just doubled the chicken broth.

Your meal sounded nommie.

Started back up on Atkins

Good morning,

I started back up this month on Atkins after losing 30 lbs and keeping it off last year. It seem like the weight is starting to creep back up so I am back on the induction week.
Monday-200
Tuesday198.4
Wednesday 196.2

A good start to the week. I am tracking all carbs and now I realize how much carbs had been creeping back into my daily diet. It is hard but want to lose another 25 lbs. I am glad I found this site, hopefully this will keep me motivated.

Hi Melia, great start to your week!

Got our taxes sent to the accountant yesterday.
Today I think will be a little grocery shopping and prep to go to the lake. Sounds like we'll have some very rainy days! This August has been delightfully unusual.

Thanks for the encouragement. Nighttime snacking is the hardest to control.

It is hard. Since it's only my husband and me, I don't keep any snacks around, which obviously makes it easier.
I do enjoy cooking and making low carb treats, but I also love giving them away. Not snacking was key for me now that you mention that.

Mella...My bad time is in the afternoon..Maybe I don't eat enough lunch...Snacking is bad..

Saw a FB post on Intermittent Fasting for Mature People..or something like that..Of course,
when I saw it was $97, I said forget it..I still think they had a FB page.

I listened to an old post from Jimmy about IF..and the man said that 16 hours is when your body uses up the fat stores..That makes sense..

Have fun at the lake..It will be nice to be another place for a few days..Enjoy it..

Sandy looked like she found a nice hot springs place in Colorado..

Neewollah meeting tonight..(our big fall festival)..So, have to have my picture taken with
my Ticket Queen shirt..(we work at the store for 3 weeks.)

Off to the lake! I am taking WAY too much food. But I hate to grocery shop after we get there. Just want to "be" there.

Hope the Neewollah meeting goes smoothly.
I still want to come up for that again.

Hugs to all!

Today was a free day and by that I mean free-for-all day, lol. But tomorrow it's back to my 19 hour fasting.

Tomorrow is our last day here. The time has just flown by!! All time must fly when you get old! Even the stuff I'm looking forward to seems to get here quicker than it did when I was younger. It's amazing!!

Yes, Neewollah is almost here again isn't it. You are always so faithful to volunteer for that every year, Carolyn.

You had a nice vacation this summer. Hopefully it will be cooler when you get to Kansas.

After reading an article about the great migration to see the Eclipse on Monday, I talked dh into leaving Saturday instead of Sunday. I'm picturing the highway from Joplin to St. Louis full of cars..lol. Carbondale is supposed to be a hot spot.

Good for you, Sandy. I'm amazed that you can go 19 hours.

I did figure out how to do the wedding photos, but I will wait to order after we get back so we will be here when they get here.

Dinner out with friend Kathy and cat owner friend Lana..Always fun with just the girls..

I tried to make the manicotti crepes. Well, I can never get them flipped and perfect, so I took the crepe pieces and layered them with the ricotta cheese mixture and sauce...like lasagne....sort of.

Hope everyone is okay. We are fine here. Seeing Connie for breakfast..

I usually have a couple of flops with the manicotti crepes, but I get several. I think I make them awfully thin. Then when we're eating them, I'm glad they're thin.
It may be letting them cook quite a long time on the one side before you turn? I don't know.
Did you like the manicotta/lasagna?

Hope Connie is coping. Any progress for her husband? (Is it David?)

We had so much fun at the lake. Love that forced togetherness and being with the little ones from waking up to going to bed. Then being with the adult child after the kids are down. We don't share that kind of time normally, since we live in the same town. Gosh, the weather was fabulous. Can't believe this is August.

I guess you all will spend the night somewhere on your eclipse trek?
My niece got all of us the glasses that are NASA recommended. Not sure I still want to stare at the sun for any length of time....I mean ANY length of time!
I think it will be good to see it on TV later, too.

At the lake, I made those applesauce muffins with Jennifer Eloff's Splendid Gluten-Free Bake Mix. They are just SO good. I'm able to resist them until dinner or when I break my fast. I can't find anybody that doesn't love them. Maddox ate 2 right out of the oven, LOL.

Happy Thursday!

Out of the oven is best..

Our friends who we will be staying with live near the 100 percent..I'm like you..Just glance once in a while..No staring..

Well, Connie has a meeting with the nursing home in a few minutes..I told her to be nice and grateful..She just wants them to try to put David on the portable potty..That is her biggest concern..Then she wants them to shower him once a week.. Because he is 200 pounds and is basically paralyzed on the left side, he can't sit up in other than a high sided wheelchair..Then she wants them to put him to bed right after dinner..They put him to bed at 7:30 and she stays there until they do...So hopefully, it will all work out without causing problems..

I need to make those applesauce muffins again.

I think I made my manicottis too thin..Gary liked it..I think pizza sauce makes the best spaghetti sauce..Much thicker.

Dying my hair..some grey was peeking through.

Did you see Scarlet's picture on FB with her brother Reuben, going to school?

Didn't see that. Was it on your FB page? I'll have to check.
But I'm off to swim with DD and the boys, will check later.

Poor Connie, those are a lot of concerns, all valid I'm sure. Saying an extra prayer!!

Hmm.. I just made a comment and thought it would show up everywhere.

Looks like rain. I'll take Whitey to the cracker packer this afternoon as I just washed the blue car for our trip.

Connie is resigned to this life. Two times a day at the nursing home to help feed him. He can feed himself and I told her he should use his good arm. The nursing home said that he didn't need hospice yet.

This is a sad time for Connie and David. I am very sorry for them.

I think since I'm not friends with Scarlet I can't see what you post on her page unless it's a comment about a profile picture.

AT&T is killing me. Couldn't run away from Cox cable fast enough, and now AT&T is making sure they are just as horrible. Ugh.

Yikes on the AT and T stuff. Brett and Sarah dropped cable and are trying something for 20 a month.

I sent you the Scarlet/Rueben photo via messenger. I'll send one to Sandy and Cindy. Rueben had a great kindergarten experience.

My cracker packer's grandson is going to Catholic school in Shawnee. He is 5 and told the neighbor he was going to God's school and he gets to wear a costume.

Carolyn I got the notice on messenger that you'd sent an attachment, but couldn't view it.
Maybe possibly because she's under age 18?

THRILLED to hear Reuben had a great first day of school!!

So cute about your cracker packer's grandson!!

Fun at the Eclipse. We are in St. Louis but drove 150 miles south to Golconda, Illinois. We were on the Ohio River, and it was a lovely majestic site.

Eating too much.

How neat, Carolyn! Glad you all did something so different.

We were home, but had fun, too.
Cindy and Sandy had fun I think, via facebook.
