Well, I was going through my spice cabinet and I came across Kennel Seasons White Cheddar popcorn seasoning. It is only 8 cals per Tsp, and I had the thought that it would add great "cheese" flavor to an egg white omlet. Anyone tried this on anything?

I also have "Bacon Salt", which I used during my HCG days and which adds great bacon flavor for little calories. So... tomorrow I am going to try a "Cheddar and Bacon" omelet at somewhere around 40-70 calories (depending on how much or what type of egg whites or egg sub you use).

Low calorie apple crisp for two!
Calories are for both servings/one serving
-----------------------------------
2 apples chopped into 1" cubes (I used one Fuji and one Macintosh) - 160 cals/80 cals
Cinnamon (I prefer the organic 365 cinnamon, it has a better flavor than any other cinnamon I've tried) 0/0
Sea salt to taste 0/0
1 tiny dash of vanilla extract 0/0
a dash of nutmeg 0/0
2 teaspoons of brown sugar 34/17

Mix together in a bowl, make sure all the apples are coated evenly.
Sprinkle liberally with Splenda or another 0 cal sweetener until it's as sweet as you like.

Put the mixture in a pan for the oven (or baking cups in a muffin tin)

In the same bowl as the apples were in, mix together:

1/2 cup Fiber One original cereal 60/30
1/2 T Earth Balance butter (melted) 40/20 -or- 1/2 T Salted Butter (melted) 50/25
a shake or two of cinnamon 0/0
a few shakes of Splenda or other 0 cal sweetener 0/0

Put the topping on the apples, and bake in a 450 degree oven for about 30-35 minutes.

Makes two servings
Total calories: 294-304 (if you use EB or dairy based butter)
Per serving: 147-152 (if you use EB or dairy based butter)

I'm pretty sure it's Almond Milk.

ETA: That's how I read it, but thinking about it, I could be completely off base.

since this was brought up, I almost bought some almond milk yesterday at my natural foods store, I have never purchased almond milk before. I have a few questions:
1. What are the benefits of almond milk over regualr milk
2. It was not in the refrigerated section, just on the shelf in the pantry section-is that normal
3. How is the taste-can it be eaten in cereal?

I almond milk! If you get the unsweetened kind (can be found in chocolate and vanilla even!) it has almost not carbs (except what you would find in almonds!). It can come in the boxes that would keep on a shelf for a while and sometimes it can be found in the refrigerated section! Just depends on the brand. I actually prefer it to regular milk and I use it in place of milk in everything almost. It absolutely makes a delicious sub in your cereal! Buy a small box and get it chilled and try it out. I it!

I have tried a couple of different kinds. The benefits over regular milk are lower calories (especially if you get plain, unsweetened), and no dairy if you need to avoid dairy for any reason.

It's shelf stable until it's opened, then follow the directions on the box.

It does NOT taste like milk. I like it in cereal, and my daughter will use it in cereal but prefers milk.

I like the chocolate, unsweetened almond milk, microwaved with a little DaVinci's SF raspberry syrup, or even just Ez-Sweetz. Yum!

My favorite almond milk for cereal is the unsweetened vanilla kind. It is simply amazing!!!

I went out and bought some almond original, it is sweetened I believe. I should have read these answers first, I saw the vanilla and unsweetened. I did not see any chocolate(or I would have bought that too)
Thanks for the answers and suggestions(this stuff is pretty pricey)

I use the unsweetened vanilla and unsweetened chocolate Almond Breeze. I have used it in cereal, but I rarely eat cereal. I like half a cup with a sqirt or 2 of SF Hershey's syrup or davinci sf syrups. In the summer I use it a lot in shakes and smoothies, but this time of year I'm too darn cold to even think about my yummy shakes.

I did not know that almond milk comes in chocolate too! I like it, the unsweetened vanilla variety, in smoothies. I use the plain in recipes too. I use/drink any kind of milk so seldom it lasts forever. Plus, the date is usually a month or two from purchase. I have coconut bars that I adore for 100 calories, so I probably won't go to the trouble to make ice-cream.

Inspired by fellow JB's, I had an amazing dinner tonight!

- Ground sirloin (4 oz) 200 cals
- Tofu Shirataki (1/2 of a package) 20 cals
- Pizza Sauce (1/2 cup) 45 cals
- Chopped onion (small amount) minimal cals
- Ro-Tel (1/8 cup) 12.5 cals
- Pizza seasonings

It was SO good, super filling and a very large portion! A+!

I think you buy them in the frozen section at the grocery store. There are a bunch of brands like froze fruit. Weight Watchers has mini fudge pops and coffee flavored pops for 40 calories which I really like. Philly Swirl makes Sweet Delights that are only 14 calories a piece. You get 10 in the box. I joke about eating a whole box as my DD food for a whopping 140 calories. Have never done it- too cold!!!!

DH & I bought our first carton of Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond Milk (refrigerated) about a month ago. The expiration was mid March which I LOVE b/c I don't drink milk every day so it lasts me a WHILE! It's pretty close to milk to me. I haven't used it in cereal as I don't normally buy cereal. I used it w/ brekki a couple of days and in his grits. I love the low cal, low carb, low fat. I'm going to check out the nutritionals of the other vanilla, chocolate, etc. as I may like to try those as well. I am so happy to find and try this stuff!!

We have always had whole, full fat milk in our fridge,so when i bought the almond milk Friday, I thought it will last forever because I know my kids won't drink it, and i rarely drink milk. WRONG! My son tasted it and loved it, he has used half the carton already! He drank it plain and as a huge glass of chocolate milk, twice.
I put a tablespoon it my hot tea, it was wonderful!

I love the Eddy's Frozen Fruit Bars in coconut, and you can buy them at any grocery store. The coconut are 120 calories each, not 100. oops. I usually don't eat them on DD, but can if I have the cals.

Hi Ahna! Thanks for reviving this thread.

I am Ms Boring when it comes to cooking, but that doesn't mean I don't have my faves.

So I admit with pride that my go-to for taste, low cal, low carb, and fill-you-up-ed-ness is the tried and true Omelet. Made with egg-beater style liquid eggs, peppers and onions, and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Anywhere from 50 to 100 kcals, depending.

1 c. strained full fat Dannon plain yogurt
4 squirts Reddi-wip
few sprinkle shakes of SF jello, dry (I love lime)
sweetener of choice to taste

I put it in the freezer for a bit and once you get the timing down, it can taste like a slice of Key Lime Pie or lime frozen yogurt.

I count this as 110 calories. Even though I'm trying to wean down to liquids only on a DD, if I gotta have something, this is it.
Is the strained yogurt similar in texture to Greek yogurt?

Carly, yes it's very similar to Greek yogurt. I started buying Fage yogurt a couple of years ago. It's a bit pricier, but I've gotten lazier over time . Being low carb I get the full fat, which means it's more calories and since it doesn't need strained I only eat it on UDs now.

Instant ramen! With broccoli, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms and a little sliced pork/chicken breast. I doctor up the broth with some oyster sauce, soy sauce, fresh ginger and cayenne. It is really good and filling.

That sounds yummy!!!! I don't think I've had instant Ramen in 20 years. Reminds me of undergraduate school We made hot water in the coffee pot.
