Good Sunday morning to you all

I got some sleep last night but still have all that tension in my neck and shoulders--hopefully now that the service is over I can try to relax a little but today we are going to try and glue that handrail and get it into the curved brackets on the stairs--it has been quite the job...the glue I ordered says to wear disposable clothes so I am hoping it isn't super messy and get on the white trim on the staircase..

Carol--I thank you for that info--I am going to read some there when I find the time...you are doing great!!! I am so glad it is working for you--I read another womans blog who has been a carb watcher due to her diabetes but she recently went to THM and has lost 12 lbs rather quickly--so for someone who had already had low carbs to lose that much it tells me that switching out our plan has a lot of benefit sometimes.. love the new avatar too...

Jan I saw your post listing Alice and I thought what? who did I miss joining so I read backwards and saw that Carol referenced Alice--good sometimes to go back and read more carefully...hope you knee feels better soon...

well--I need to go find some disposable clothes- be back after the big glue!

Happy first day of spring, everyone!

Jeanne - What kind of glue makes you wear disposable clothes--yikes! I'm envisioning you in a hazmat suit--hahaha! Sure it just means it won't come out once it gets on something. Hope you get it done without any problems, know it's been a labor of love for you.

Yep, Monday is always a good restart day, including over here. Had those 3 days of 16:8 fasting, then the Sat.-Sun. food and drink debauchery so am up a couple lbs. this morning and am sooooo hungry too! Debating about doing IF again--can't eat until 11:30 today--or try doing some JUDDD. I tend to binge-eat and know that once I start eating something it can trigger eating until full and sometimes it's amazing the volume that can go in without feeling any fullness!

Speaking of the "mental struggle":
Am having some peer pressure here as DH has started dieting without saying anything the past 3 weeks. I noticed he wouldn't eat all of his usual breakfast at home--would leave a bit of egg or half a sausage--and was occasionally skipping dinner 2nds. Then he started leaving some food on his dinner plate. He's also cut back on his eating when we go out/meet up with friends. So now feel like a real pig, ugh. He's 2 inches shorter than me and it wasn't too bad when we weighed the same, but I figure I weigh 30 lbs. more than he does right now. You'd think it'd be motivating but instead I'm feeling bad. He's doing it right and using a gradual approach, so I applaud him.

Feel like I keep trying different approaches and nothing sticks. In my heart I know it's an emotional/psychological issue, just haven't pinpointed the fix yet. Tried getting some therapy for my depression and grief last summer but the therapist wasn't a good match and the MD (psychiatrist) said I wasn't bad enough for drugs (was having an "up" day too), so I didn't go back to either of them. Guess y'all are my group therapy, really appreciate all the sympathetic listening and hearing about your struggles--and successes!--so a BIG thank-you!

On that note, just finished my regular morning coffee and tummy's grumbling so will try a cup of decaf next w some CO (coconut oil), see if that can buy me some time to get busy/distracted until lunch; also have some morning errands to run.

And away we go!

woohoo--spring--thanks for the reminder going2--I really need to think about mowing soon--dreading that-once it starts I am out mowing a couple days a week-thankfully DH hasn't gotten the blades sharpened or the tractor serviced so I am hanging back without encouraging him to do those things!!

going2 you are like me-I used to think I would do no other plans but low carb and I still feel that it is the best health-wise--but the approaches that everyone is trying has me thinking that I need to do some more research like Carol did...I want to get into and stay into ketosis sooner and that is the only thing that takes away the incessant hunger for me---I know it is all chemically in the body/brain and I love hearing what works for everyone...

If you are still feeling the need for therapy--don't quit at trying to find a good therapist--I have had many different ones over the years and there are some that were terrible..but if you feel the need keep going...FYI I think half the population has been on medication at one time or another--I know I have been on it for years and years... I think about going off but it is scary to feel those dark thoughts too

I would feel the same way that you feel if I noticed the DH cutting down without saying anything--but you can make it work in your favor and think of it as having a partner in dieting.. have him share ideas with you and you can maybe assist him in doing your plan or at leasting trying something together?? I am in awe of how much my DH puts away in junk--he eats constantly from the time he gets home until he goes to bed--and it is all carbs--I have to watch him and it isn't easy--the only time it doesn't hurt and drive me nuts is when I am ketosis--which I thought I was at trace for a day and could tell that I wasn't as hungry--since then I have apparently eaten too many carbs and the sticks are still not showing so it is back to square one even though I haven't been off plan--I need to restart tracking but that has not been happening..

Today I going to lunch with a friend to Mexican-so I usually have a taco salad but I break off and eat too much of the shell.. I think I will look for some fajitas and just do away with the wrong choice.???

Jan--I wish you well on the eggfast again--please share what you are eating--do you think doing that gets you into ketosis faster or deeper?

I am still thinking about IF too... I just need to commit to something.. that doesn't work when you have to go to lunch though

going2 we used a glue that is called titebond 3--the thing about it is that it has a open window of 30 minutes to work with it before you can't budge it..I was trying to use a foam paint brush to spread it but that wasn't strong enough and it broke the sticks and started coming apart--so I ended up using my gloved hand--It was a size XL for the DH so you know how well that stayed on...I ended up getting quite a bit on my hands and then it said on the bottle soap and water cleanup-that didn't work and we ended up using mineral spirits...the rail is in the brackets on the stairwell an we probably won't remove it until next weekend when he can sand and router the edges--I am hopeful that this is the time it works--I wore my old paint clothes and if they were ruined it didn't matter...hazmat indeed!!!

cya all later--time for everyone to check in...

So I had a good st Patrick's day weekend. Loads of foods and drinks, but only up 0.6. I typically only weigh at the gym during the scheduled weigh ins. Used my scale Friday and this morning to see but I put the scale away now again. Trying to focus on fitness not solely on the scale anymore. Which has been really hard to disconnect from it.i think I did well enough this weekend though.

Jeanne - Thanks a bunch for your gentle perspective and advice, much appreciated. Def. want to see wassup w DH and see if we can "diet" (WOE) together. The challenge is that we eat differently at home, food and styles, but surely we can put our heads together for this isssue--we make a great team when we work on a project!

That sure sounds tricky with the glue, especially timing--best of luck getting it done!

Kal - WTG on damage control for the weekend!

I buckled and had a HB egg, then ate about 2 med. shrimp because my kitteh was crying for her breakfast and only likes their meaty parts so I had to eat the tail ends. Yah, I know, heh heh heh.

Anyhow, heading out to run errands and have a productive day--hope everyone is doing well!

Hi everyone, and Happy Spring from KY. Had a pretty quiet weekend, and ready to start a new week and get some things done.

Going2- I find that when I am doing and IF the bullet proof coffee holds off my hunger better than anything. I always feel very full after drinking a cup. I do cheat and use a tablespoon of cream in mine. I also noticed that how full (or satisfied) I felt at bed time was usually a pretty good indicator of how I would feel come morning. If I went to bed hungry then I would wake up hungry and it was harder to get the end of the fast. So, try to eat a very filling and satisfying meal the evening before (if mourning is your fast time) and hopefully it will hold you longer. I also try to drink lots of water. I agree w/Jeanne that you should talk to your DH and see if y'all can't work together on the weight loss thing instead of separate. My DH losses weight pretty easily when he tries so that can be discouraging, but I just try not to let it because we are different people and there is nothing I can do about that. Hang in there, we're rooting for you!!!

Jan- the egg queen returns, lol.

Jeanne- you will have to post a picture of that rail when it's all done.

Carol- how's it going? Can't wait to see your numbers this Wed.

OK everyone else lets here something from you. Have a great day everyone!!!

I am up 2 lbs this morning. 200. I could feel it actually, and wasn't going to get on the scale, but I did anyway. Yesterday was my down day...500 calories. I didn't count, but I know I went over. We went to the casino and ate at the buffet. I had planned on eating the baked fish and lots of veggies, but they didn't have the baked fish. We don't usually go on a Sunday so I didn't know that. They didn't have any fish, actually, and the only chicken they had was breaded fried or General Tso's and that pan was empty. No roasted or grilled chicken. I took a piece of steak, but it really wasn't that good so when they brought out more General Tso's I got some of that, but I know with the sauce is was higher calorie. 3/4 of my plate was veggies and I did the best I could under the circumstances. It will come back off, and it might be water weight. I'm not worried. I'm still on plan.

Jeanne, I don't know if I have ever been in ketosis. I bought some test strips and I wasn't then, and haven't tried since. I just don't eat low carb enough or for a long enough time. It's just not for me. I don't eat many starchy carbs, but I'm still not low enough for ketosis.

Going2, my DH never mentions when he is dieting, but I notice. He does the same as yours. He has always left food on his plate, and he rarely goes back for seconds, but I can tell when he's eating fewer sweets and less food altogether. He thinks low carb is a bunch of bunk, but sometimes he eats his burgers without the bun now. So he's trying it out.

Betsie, I am different from you. If I go to bed hungry, I'm not hungry when I get up, but if I go to bed with a full stomach I'm starving when I get up. Backwards. Doesn't make sense.

Happy Spring!!

Yes, the Egg Queen has returned and she is determined to get to her goal. I am sick of this up and down, up and down. Day 1 of Egg Fast has gone well.

I can usually get into ketosis in 2-3 days if I keep my carbs under 50 grams. With the Egg Fast I don't think I get there faster but it is deeper because there are so few carbs.

Today was 85% fat, 2% carbs, 14% protein. 1470 calories

Today I had BP coffee with 1 T coco oil and 1 T butter.

2 hard boiled eggs with mayo, sriracha, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika

2 eggs scrambled in coco oil with 1.5 ounces gouda cheese

3 hard boiled eggs with mayo, sriracha, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika

2 oz. cheddar cheese

1 Diet Cherry Pepsi

7 eggs, 7 fats, 3.5 ounces cheese

Jan - Tx for sharing your egg fast menu! Recall there being an "Ivana Trump Egg Fast Day" thread where supposedly she only ate 13 eggs in a day to drop lbs., not sure of its an urban legend tho'.

Carol - Think that's just a fluctuation; you'll drop back down in no time. At least you were smart about eating under the challenging circumstances of a casino buffet! So did you play too, any winnings?

Betsielou - Tx for the BPC tip. Haven't tried it with butter but have tried it w CO, although it doesn't seem to help my appetite. Then again, haven't made it up to a full tablespoon of CO consistently either.

I asked DH about his "dieting" and he said he was having a loss of appetite "like old people get." Uh no--he is 59 and this was a sudden change, not gradual. The only thing we can pinpoint is when he had an allergic reaction to shrimp in January and was on steroids for 10 days. Seems like that's when he started losing his appetite/cutting back. He does want to lose a little weight tho'; I was spot on with how much he's lost already. Since I make his home and work meals, we decided to just let him serve himself at dinner rather than me make a plate for him and to "lighten" up his formerly hearty work breakfasts and lunches. He's also setting a good example for me a la "mindful eating." We are blessed to have a terrific relationship but are timid with each other about "sensitive" stuff, although are great once we get the discussion going or working on a project together.

Some bad eating habits I have: eating at my desk/standing in the kitchen/in front of TV, out of a full container rather than putting a portion into a dish under the guise of not being wasteful (dirtying a dish), and then there's "clean pate syndrome" from growing up poor--find myself finishing DH's left-on food to not "waste" it. Again, there's that "head game" to beat. Plus I've been off work officially 13 months now, so that isn't helping due to less activity and not having a routine and purpose; started scoping out jobs this week. I'm making my choices, no one to blame, so only I can push through myself to make the right ones and make them stick.

Just had a rare 2nd cup of regular coffee and am feeling some "energy" to get things done right now, hahaha. Dreamt last night I was de-cluttering my kitchen so I guess my subconscious is giving me a kick in the rear, how about that!

Going2, I tried to google to see if there was any more info on the Ivana Trump Egg Fast but all that would come up was about Ivanka Trump, not Ivana. LOL I guess Ivana is old news. These famous people aren't all naturally thin, though. They have to work at it more than we do since they are in the public eye.

I am still hanging on to those 2 pesky pounds from the casino buffet. And no, we didn't win. If we did, it would have at least made the gain easier to accept. LOL

I have a weigh-in tomorrow so I hope the pounds are gone by then. I get mad at myself because if I hadn't messed up it would be 2 new pounds I'm losing, not the same ones over again.

Jan-thanks so much for sharing your menu on the egg fast- I may start printing those out in case I convince myself to try it..

going2--glad you and your DH are working together--we all have bad habits--I am a secret eater--when the DH goes to bed-I start in--I find it easier to go to bed sometimes and then other times the binge begins and I eat my way through it--it is a shame I have lived all these years without getting rid of that habit..

Carol--good luck on your weigh in--I think it is just a bump in the road to your final destination... you got this.

not much else to report--

Hello to Crazy, Michelle, Anna, Betsie and Kal--come share a little with us

Day 3 of the Egg Fast, down 3.6 pounds. Jeanne, yesterday's menu was about the same as Monday except I didn't take enough food to work. When I got home I ate eggs with mayo and sriracha but my 1:1 ratio of egg:fat was short 2 fats and I was too tired to worry about it.

Today I plan to make some muffins, hard cooked eggs in the oven, and crepes. I may try a few new reicpes, the pancakes with LC maple syrup and the fettucine recipe.

Jeanne, or anyone else interested in the Egg Fast, you could just try it for one day and see what you think. It doesn't have to go on for a long time like Ally and I have done. Most just do it for 3 days.

Good morning! Cold and cloudy here today. Day 4 of Egg Fast. Yesterday I felt kind of tired, weak, and spaced out. Changed up a few things and feeling good again today.

hello girls

It was a paint day for me today and it will be again tomorrow--I am getting close to finishing the main floor--it has taken me way longer than I wanted.

Jan--I bought 3 dozen eggs yesterday-I still am on the fence but I am thinking I might try the egg fast next week to finish up the month???

what does everyone have on tap for the weekend??? it is supposed to be super warm but with rain--I can deal with the rain--except for how fast the grass is growing.

have a great weekend--I hope to see some more people here soon???

Hi gang!

Ok....time to come clean....I'm so far off the reservation....I'm over-worked (but I love my job) I'm under-rested....only sleeping 4 - 5 hours a night lately.....my eating is crap...and I haven't dared to get on the scales.....I've completely lost my momentum.

The good news is that I think I've found an assistant to hire...which will help bring sanity to work....once I actually get him hired, and then trained....etc...but it's a step in the right direction.

I need to get caught up on everyone's posts, but the ones I have seen are AWESOME....you guys are really rocking...Carol, you are awesome...congrats on Onderland!!!!!

Tammy - Hang in there, when your life routine's back in shape your health will follow--great news hiring some help!

Jeanne - You are on a roll there, sprucing up the house! That's something I need: a solid project (or job) to keep me busy and away from boredom-eating.

Jan - WTG on egg-fasting (is that a verb?)! I have an Instant Pot pressure cooker that cooks 7 eggs on a trivet for only 2 mins. to make mine perfect, but supposedly you can do 3 dozen at a time, so an egg fast would be doable here. You up for sharing your subsequent days' EF menus?

Supposed to also be warm here tomorrow, almost 80 degrees! I signed up for a nature art class at a local park and look forward to being outside. I am not artistic, but it's supposed to be for beginners. Doing it through Meetup, an online social group site--I'm in one for Ladies in their 40s-50s but have only done 3 other events, hard to get past my social anxiety around strangers/new places.

My new GYN just ordered extra estrogen for my latest HRT regimen as I haven't had a good nite's sleep since last September due to hot flashes that wake me up 4-6 times EVERY night. She wanted me to give this one a solid 3-4 months before deciding if it was working ... nope, waaahhh. Hope the higher dose will give me some solid sleep, think that has contributed to my weight and eating issues. I've tried many regimens and about all the OTC supplements to no avail; my prev. GYN said I'm one of her handful of cases that don't respond, lucky me (had to switch docs because she stopped taking ins.). You know I'm gonna be panting like an eager dog at my pharmacy's door when they open today, rip off the prescription bottle cap and pop a dose right there like a junkie--hahaha!

We have grilling nite tomorrow, doing BLSL chx thighs and burgers, probably Sunday brunch, nothing exciting. Hope everyone has a good weekend, and an easy one if you're working.

Tammy, I WAS doing good! Not so much the past couple days. I won't get on the scale. I need to reassess the situation. Not sure I'm still in Onederland. LOL

Jan and Going2, I love hard cooked eggs but they have to warm and freshly cooked. So doing them ahead wouldn't do me any good. The only exception is pickled eggs, in beet juice with vinegar.

Tammy, we have all been there and I am sure I would do the same if I was in your position. Yay for the assistant!!

Going2, I think egg-fasting is a verb and sounds better than EFing. The instant pot would be perfect! I would love it if you would join us and will be happy to share.

Jeanne, you are one hard working lady!!

Carol, I like my hard boiled eggs warm, too. I have learned to like them cold though with mayo and sriracha. It has become addictive and I crave them.
Good idea to stay off the scales for a few days.

I am down 4 pounds in 4 days.
The last 2 days I have had eaten:

3 boiled eggs with mayo, sriracha, smoked cayenne
2 scrambled eggs with cheese
3 scrambled eggs with butter, cream cheese, and SF maple syrup

I am doing a lazy/busy version the last few days which I don’t necessarily recommend but it is working okay for a few days.

Yesterday I bought 6 eggs scrambled from Bob Evans and bought boiled eggs in a bag at the grocery.

Thanks for the love girls!!!

Going2, sorry about the lack of sleep.....that's so tough......I struggle with getting quality sleep too, but t fortunately not due to hot flashes, I hope they can dial that in for you!

Carol, I've never had pickled eggs.....never been that brave! If you're not still in Onderland, you'll slip right back into it, you've got this!!

Jan, I need a good egg fast.....that's a great way to lose!

Have a great weekend, everyone.....Monday is coming!!

Hi everyone! Loving these warmer temps, but the wind has been crazy. Guess some rain is coming though. We got our produce field plowed up, and we are putting up a high tunnel for tomatoes, hope that goes well for us. Weight is steady, hoping to end the month w/pretty good numbers, I guess anything lower than where is started is fine. DH has decided to start making changes to his eating habits, I think he finally sees that the weight is not coming off as easy as it use to. He wants to cut back on sugar, so I am going to have to redouble my efforts to not cheat and set a good example for him.

Tammy-sorry work has you so crazy, hopefully your assistant will lighten the load so you life can settle back down a bit.

Jan- good job on that EF! How long are you going to stay on it this time?

Carol- you are on that edge that is so easy to teeter back and forth on, try to get that momentum back and slip on down to the onederland side. Either way, you are doing great!

Jeanne- I have to laugh at you because every post you make you mention the grass...do you hate mowing grass . Your avatar is cute, except I think the life sized Easter bunnies are pretty creapy.

Going2- ugh, I am not looking forward to hot flashes, I'm sweating just thinking about it, . Grilling night sounds fun. We need to get out grill ready so we can start having those too.

Well, wonder where everyone else is? Hope all are well. Have a great weekend everyone!

Egg Fast still going well. I did a transition day today. My meals were eggs/fat/cheese except one and that was 6 slices of bacon. Yum!!

I have been reading everyone's posts and will catch up on personals tomorrow or Monday, my next day off.

Last time I weighed a couple days ago I was still right at 200, and I don't feel as though I lost any more. I hope it comes soon.

Betsie, not everyone gets hot flashes. I didn't. Maybe slightly warm flashes, but barely noticeable. I think it depends on how TOM was for you. My TOM was barely noticeable. No problems. I think if you have a hard time with TOM you will have a rough menopause.

I had to google "high tunnel for tomatoes" and it was exactly what I thought it was. LOL

Tammy, pickled eggs are great! I like to let them soak in the beet juice for a couple days, with lots of vinegar. Yum! I don't think I've found a style of egg I don't like, except maybe raw! Yuk!

Carol- I am so glad to hear that. My TOM is never a big deal, no PMS, no cramps except some lower back pain so maybe I won't have a hard time w/menopause. I've been kinda stuck lately too so maybe we will both have a woosh by Wed, and especially by the 3rd. Some people don't like the high tunnel tomatoes, they are sure the tomatoes don't taste as good but it's just because most people think they are grown in pots or hydroponics...not the same thing.

hello ladies--sorry for the late check-in--it has been a busy weekend--I jumped off the wagon and rolled in it--I celebrated my birthday with a week of bad eating!!! tomorrow is Monday after all--my restart of a restart of a restart! I see the pattern and it hasn't been helpful...I refuse to weigh! I will however not quit....just need to refocus big time..

Betsie--I hate mowing--I used to enjoy it but that seems ions ago--it usually takes me 2-3 days since I can't tolerate sitting on the tractor all day...but we have 10 acres to mow and it just becomes the thing that takes up too much of my time--plus the regular yard work--when the DH retires I don't intend to mow again...

Tammy-so glad you have some help--you have had a whole lot to deal with by yourself--now I hope you have less stress...

Jan--how long are you doing the egg fast?? the transition day means you are done for now?? I haven't decided to do the EF yet--I keep thinking about it and I need to take the plunge.. need to do some reading...

well--it is getting late and I need some sleep....cya tomorrow

Jeanne, I will be Egg Fasting again tomorrow. Just needed a little break. Yes, you should plan to do just one day and see what you think. Love your new avatar! Will check it out closer on my computer when I get home.

Carol, one week and then we start our summer challenge.

Anybody have a name for out summer challenge or preference for when we start?

Jan - Just some brainstorming here but realize my referring to a group may make it seem like a "club" vs. an all-are-welcome challenge; I like the time period in the title like we have now.

Slimmer by Summer Sisters
Better by Summer Bunch
A-weigh We Go Summer Challenge

Was thinking of your great egg-fasting when I made a bunch of HB eggs last night. Not sure I have the discipline to do them all day but want to reach for one when ever a snack urge hits, they sure are filling.

Carol - Hang in there, so tuff being on a precipice like that, you're bound to have a whoosh any day now!

Jeanne - We should have a club for us "re-starters," hahaha. I know one day it'll stick, just wish it would be sooner than later!

BetsieLou - Wow on growing your own produce like that! Great to hear DH is on board with eating better too, helps to have that support close at home.

DH decided he wanted pizza yesterday, and not the super thin crust (lower carbs) I had in the freezer or the local delivery place; he wanted one from a restaurant 6 miles away! I thought I'd just eat the crusts, which he usually discards, but ended up eating a small slice too--OMG, pizza is SOOOOO GOOD! Tend to forget how carbs like that taste. Now I have a crave, darn it, and luckily he said he wanted what's left as his lunch which keeps me from scarfing it down--phew! May make a LC "pizza bake" to satisfy me today: layer mozz cheese, LC pizza sauce, and some turkey pepperoni and bake in a toaster oven pan.

The "nature sketch" art class on Saturday was nice--we lucked out with beautiful weather! The instructor was a naturalist so she spent a good 30 mins. first explaining the science of spring and how it affects buds, which attract bugs that attract birds, etc., kinda like a biology class, and never gave us beginner "art" instruction, like some basic drawing techniques, a bit disappointing there. We walked some on the trail and it was a nice group of a dozen or so folks. Glad I got out and did some walking, plus we all received a little art kit of a small sketchbook and colored pencils, some other supplies.

Quiet week ahead, only one going out social event, and that helps with eating better. It may be too soon to be very optimistic, but I think the extra estrogen is already helping me after only 4 days--last night's sleeptime flashes seemed to be less intense, unless pizza does that <yikes!>. Fingers crossed! And legs and eyes crossed too--hahaha!

Hope everyone has a good start to the week, with some motivation in your step!
