Hi all. Sounds like everyone is having a good week. Not much going on here but I am trying to finish a quilt for my SIL for her bday then end of this month so spending all my free time on that. Scale is being nice again finally, probably because I am trying to do better.

It is so fun to read what everyone is doing and how things are going.

Tammy good job on the fast. I have not done more than a 16 hr fast so far.
Carol don't let that little up bother you, it will come back down.
Michelle...brrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Jan are you feeling better yet?
Jeanne the days are getting longer now not shorter .
Going2 the park pic was lovely, ours is not near as nice.

To everyone else, keep up the good work. And hope everyone has a great weekend!

BTW we have been getting, and are still to get, a lot of rain but no ice so I am thankful for that.

Jeanne, be safe if you get the ice.

Happy Friday (13th) day #5

MIA yesterday DH had the day off and we went to Tucson for fun. Eating going well for me and no cravings. The weather can be so mean at times I don't know if it is just me but I think the winters are more harsh and unpredictable than ever before. Sending good vibes and warm wishes that all will be well and safe.

I will be back later to read and see how week one is going, gotta take care of the dogs now.

Morning, everyone! And TGIF to all who have been working hard on their eating and exercise this week. Hope you are looking forward to the weekend and, if you are working or have heavy commitments, it goes by nice and easy.

Betsielou - All hail a nice scale, a great motivator! Glad to hear you are having mostly rain, hear the ice is what is so dangerous.

I've hesitated to post my stats knowing that I may undo some of my work this weekend, but that's like giving myself permission to slack off and it becomes an expectation rather than challenging myself to stay strong. Being part of this challenge makes me accountable, that's why I'm in it, so here goes:

1/9 - 223.0
1/13 - 215.8
= 7 lbs.!

That's a crazy loss, like I had the first time I did Atkins Induction, when I lost 8 lbs. in 2 weeks (am metabolically resistant). Am thinking that the first weigh-in may have had some weekend bloat, but happy to know a solid 5 lbs. loss is in there. Steeling myself with resolve to get through this weekend to hold steady or show a small loss Monday before calling it a week's result. The good news is we don't have any commitments the next couple of days, so I can stay focused <ahem>.

Hate that it is so much work and a struggle right now--am so impatient! Know the key is to go slowly, am almost moving too fast and setting myself up for giving up or taking a "little break" rather than making this WOE and activity level a lifestyle, making it stick. DH is planning to retire this summer and I don't want to be an inactive heavy spouse who is too self conscious to go out and do things, want to enjoy myself in good health--that's my ultimate reward goal.

Today is a rest day after walking 2 miles daily since Monday. Mini goals include continuing the other exercises and adding 2-lbs. barbells for biceps curls.

And away we go!

Going2, very nice loss! keep on going strong!

I can't wait to get my official weigh in on Wednesday. I snuck a peak but it was on in a different scale and so gotta wait and that's okay. Just hoping to see 186 or less.

Michelle- BRRRR you weather is crazy. I know you are doubting your self right now don't believe the neg. thoughts. Coming back here everyday shows that you haven't given up. You did it before and you can do it again. You are an older wiser Michelle and you want this.
A wise woman told me : We have to take this journey one day at a time.
Thank you, I have faith in you and yes YOU CAN.

Kal- I like the official weight in days over everyday. No slacking for you for sure. The gym program is an awesome thing to do for yourself. Keeping my fingers crossed ( that is about the extent of my exercise program ) for you to meet your 186 or below goal.

Carol- You had a small flux on the scale, not the best thing to see but you know it is very normal and some times it comes from something that we have no control over. You will get under control soon, I'm starting to see you are one determined Lady. I feel you pain with the soreness and limping from doing exercising. Your exercise routines are like the Olympics compared to mine. keep up the good work the good results are coming soon.

Betsie- Glad to read that what ever you are doing is paying off at the scale. Your quilt sounds lovely, She will love it, Is it a surprise? Better rain than ice any day.

Tammy- Ya the fast was a success. The family dinner was a nice ending to it and you continued to be careful at you food selections. I would of taken it a chance to pig out I'm sure. Your fluid/water intake is impressive, the fat in the coffee, you are flushed in more ways than one I'm sure You always make me smile and I'm so happy you are doing so well.

Going 2 Down 7 in just this short time you have a very good base to get through the weekend. No commitments is a plus it gives you time to focus on you. I too need to fully understand this is a go slow one day at a time lifestyle and at my age I've played a fool for to long. Your eye is on the prize to be healthy and happy with you DH when he retires or tomorrow. Walking 2 miles a day , when you see them dumb bells give em hell.

I'm afraid to get on the scale today. I "feel" fat. LOL I am not in the frame of mind to be able to handle another up, so I'll just wait until I feel "thin." LOL

This morning I read a really good article by Dr Mercola about how inactivity is worse than smoking. It was very interesting, and makes me realize how important it is to get back to it. Now. Not today, though. We're going to the casino. Ha Ha Maybe I can just run from one slot machine to the other.

Sounds like everyone is doing well. Still concerned about Jan.

Hi Carol, I'm with you on the lack of movement is worst than smoking. My joints hurt and my mind gets so foggy that I am brain dead. I have had medical issues for a few years now that has keep me down so I'm inching up out of this chair slow but sure. Jog between the slots, stand up for more calorie burning to get ready for that weight lifting you will be doing to carry your winnings home You don't have to weight in again until Monday and not even then if you don't want to this is a 12 week challenge....You know your body and this fat feeling will go back to the pits, stay strong, YOU got this, enjoy your day.

Jan....sending you warm and blessed vibes to feel better, looking to see you back soon.

HI MrsVardy, hope all is well, looking to see your pretty face back here soon also.

Norma Jean, I'm enjoying the gym program. I ask for it for Christmas. It's several weeks long. Ends before my vacation so it perfectly fit in my timeline.

I have high hopes for Wednesday. Unfortunately I just realized its also going to be TOM and so I haven't been up in weight yet this week since I did sneak a peek a couple days ago. Typically I gain the week before until it ends. So I guess I may not really get the full picture of my weight loss until the 1st which is the following official weigh in. So I just have to keep all that in mind.

Kal, Right keep in mind that some things we have no control of, Mother Nature will have her way first so no negative troughs. You are doing beautifully and the results will be there when you are able to weigh. Lucky you on the gift to be able to accomplish your dream....You deserve it.

Yeah I'm not letting it rule my thoughts or shift my mindset. I could make excuses when it happens, but I just don't have time for excuses. Haha. So I'll kick my butt in the gym and push through. As long as I give everything 100% I know I'll get results. After all no one ever leaves the gym regretting the choice to workout. They may leave sore and tired, but they feel accomplished.

Hi everyone!

Gosh what a busy day Can't believe I'm just now getting a chance to post!

Norma Jean, you're such an encourager!! Hey, I just realized that you're in AZ as well....where about? I'm up in the Verde Valley, just outside of Sedona.

Kal, TOM sucks...it can really wreak havoc! I no longer have that issue thank heavens, but I remember it well!!

Betsielou, funny how the scale behaves when we do!

Going2, that's an AMAZING loss!!! Well done!!!

Carol, I totally know what you mean....I will say though, many times when I "Felt" fat I was pleasantly surprised to weigh and find that indeed I had lost!!! Not always.....but many times!

Well, it's been a good day, stayed on plan....except I wasn't thinking too clearly at lunch and had some sweet potato fries....hopefully that doesn't screw up my ketosis! Dinner tonight will be a fat bomb, make sure I keep my fat ratio high to offset those sweet potato fries and I MIGHT sneak through.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Well ladies, unfortunately I did not have any weight to carry home from the casino, but I did get in a lot more steps. I ate a great buffet, too. It was all low carb for me, but still, too much food. Don't know how much damage I did.

Kal, I love this, and I am stealing it!!

no one ever leaves the gym regretting the choice to workout

See it showing up in my signature? Hope you don't mind!

Morning, everyone! We are awakening to just rain here and thankfully dodged the ice. How are you holding out, Jeanne?

Norma Jean - Sorry to hear you've had medical challenges, am impressed by your motivation to get up and moving in spite of them. We are mulling retirement spots and hear AZ has some good ones, what's your take? Then again, "the winters are more harsh and unpredictable than ever before" so maybe we should hang out with the FL retirees.

Tammy - Sounds like you are making good progress, a few fries shouldn't hurt since you've been in solid ketosis for awhile. What type of fat bombs are you having? Have noticed my fats aren't as high as they need to be this early on.

Kal - Dang, you have some serious resolve--WTG! "... kick my butt in the gym and push through."

Carol - Sounds like the casino makes for a great gym! Glad you had a good time. You are on it about having the right mindset. So much of our day is spent thinking about stuff and making decisions based upon our history and comfort zones, it's hard to break out of old patterns.

Had a LC day at 19 carbs but went over the LoseIt! tracker calorie budget (1,363) by 140, and am up half a pound this morning, oopsie (pitfall of daily weighing). Had no-carb vodka seltzers as my Friday night treat--used a big glass of seltzer--but know those big calories (for such small amounts--ha!) need to be burned before my own body's, the price to pay for indulging. Had the urge to walk a "quick mile" on the treadmill after dinner but made myself finish the rest/healing day, not get obsessed so early on, especially when feeling sore.

It has only been 5 full days on this challenge but feels like a couple weeks with my mind preoccupied with diet and exercise, and weighing and logging everything I eat and my exercises in the tracker, which is time-consuming as I build my database of foods. It feels a bit intimidating and rigid/structured, but I know it'll be second nature at some point. Hope to get in more of a groove this week.

Good Morning Friends,

Nice start Carol. Those little blips are part and parcel of weight loss. Too much salt, not enough water, uhem, bodily functions........ You will feel thin again.

Great loss Going2. Even if you go up a bit over the weekend, most of the loss should stay. Well done!

Yes, Norma Jean, the Go cup works well for my water consumption.....as to the exercise.....I did get out some DVD's but it's been so long that I forgot how to use the remote! Have to ask DH how to use it!

I have been doing the exercises that my physio therapist is recommending for my rotator cuff injury so my arm/shoulder has been more painful than last week but I know it's good for me. the Dvd's will be next!

Hi Anna, nice of you to drop in. How have you been? DH is technically healthy but I think he is depressed.....and it's not just the cold weather. He is also stressing over some business that was at the forefront when he had his heart attack, so I am working on the response to his partner's lawyer. I don't want him to be actively involved. He can check it over once I complete it.

How are you doing Michelle? This winter sure has been tough. Are you managing to stay warm and on track? You can do it!

I moved to the west coast to stay away from cold winters but this year has been brutal. Oh, not as cold as the rest of Canada, but mighty cold to us. Supposed to warm back to seasonal temps next week so I am hoping to be able to walk outside.

How are you doing Jeanne? We miss you.

Best whooshes to Tammy, Betsie, Kal and anyone I've missed.

Onward and downward.

Triumph!

hello girls

Jan-so glad to see you--I was hoping you weren't still ill.. wonderful to have you back..

Crazy--do they not expect you will need surgery for your rotator cuff injury? My DH had that done but they didn't say therapy was an option?

we lucked out on all the ice-Friday we had a little snow and sleet but it was short lived and the rest of the time we stayed above freezing just enough to not get the ice--whew I remember when we didn't have power for several days many moons ago... glad that didn't happen--did everybody also luck out?

Last night my oldest grandson had his confirmation. so proud of the young man he has turned out to be. Tomorrow evening he has a basketball game and I will take him to school again Tuesday--then head into Mom's for the day.. it never seems to slow down.

hope everyone is doing well--I dread the scale tomorrow--I am like Carol-I feel fat-after losing the water weight I am prepared to flat line as Carol says--I take forever to lose a pound but I need to pay the price for being foolish!

I saw a weather forcast for us for the coming week. Dry Monday, but rain the rest of the week. Not really freezing temps. I guess it's better than snow and ice, but I hate running around in the cold rain. It seems that's when I always end up getting sick. Even though we're retired, DH loves to run out somewhere every day, and like me to go with him. Ain't love grand? LOL

I am going to be trying a new plan I read about to help with my diabetes. I don't know how it's going to work, but what I'm doing now isn't working. From what I've read so far it's relatively low carb, but eating more often than I'm used to, and splitting exercise into two shorter sessions per day instead of one. I'm going to give it a good two weeks, then reevaluate at that time. I hope I don't do too much damage in those 2 weeks. What I'm doing now isn't working, so how much worse could it be?

Jan, I'm so glad to see you back. I always worry when someone posts that they are sick and then disappears.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Sunday!

Crazy - Glad to hear you'll have some outside walking weather ahead, good to get some fresh air during these long winter days. Best of luck getting some improvement for your shoulder, hear that the rotator cuff can be problematic.

Jeanne - Great news on missing the worst of the storm--phew!

Jan - Sorry to hear you've been sick, and no Internet to boot--ouch! Hope you both have made a good recovery.

Carol - Sweet of you to keep DH company on his runs, even in the rain--now that's love! I'm curious to hear how your diabetes regimen works out. I read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution and got some good info. DH is Type 2 and has had to get on insulin the past year after being able to do just meds. When we first went LC years ago, his morning readings dropped 30 points! Unfortunately, he likes his chips and fast food treats and has experienced "carb creep." I also make his diabetic-friendly work lunchbox 3 x week, which also has breakfast, but I see an occasional receipt for a "bad" lunch item. Sigh. Can't get on him too much, have my own health vices.

As expected, overindulged yesterday, including some cheap brut champagne (hey, it's LC!). Was ravenous around 3p for some reason, but stuck to LC snacks and chicken, although my final day's calorie count was huge. Had some advance planning done and while we watched a movie last night, snacked way too many SF candied pecans and most of a bag of pricey Popped Cheese, which I usually budget for 3 snax. At least I got my 2-mile walk done early--before the food debauchery!

Yah, scale sucked this morning, but LC eating is very forgiving and I feel strong to stay the course for another week.

We have a short workweek ahead with the MLK holiday Monday and Inauguration Day Friday. We're 8 miles from the US Capitol but have no interest in heading there, expect crazy traffic and gawd knows what, especially with folks so polarized about the PE. We'll be blessed with temps in the mid-50s, so maybe I'll coax DH out for a walk or two. Riiiighhhttt.

Going2, I want off the oral diabetes meds I'm on and am adamant that I am going to do it or die, or at least cut back. I did it once before and I believe I can do it again. It is so very hard to give up the carbs that creep in, though. You think just this little bit won't hurt, then you test and you're off the charts. I hate it. But I did this to myself so I have to handle it.

Carol - Hugs to you for your struggle there, def. can relate to carb-creep. Hope you can achieve some changes doing LC or whatever plan you feel best.

A year ago I tested "pre-diabetic," a wake-up call. I used DH's testing supplies for a couple weeks and confirmed it with morning readings averaging 110. Did I do anything? Not really. Told myself I was cutting back on "treats" like DH's chips, noodles from the carryout place, and pizza once in awhile, was active, didn't need formal exercise.

Riiiighhht.

It's all about our health; tests and the scale are some tools we can use. Our best tool is between our ears, but man, that sucker takes a lot of effort to use and can be hard to program and get going, then gets buggy again, why it is such a struggle for us.

On that note, had the late afternoon munchies and just chowed down on a bunch of celery, trying to make up for yesterday. Dinner will be burger patties, making lots to feed off of this week; bought some LC buns for DH to try. That kind of stuff is spendy but we need to do what it takes to get on track short term since moderation isn't working.

Hi everyone
Hope you all had a great weekend. It was rather soggy here, we've had rain every day for the past week. But, still had a good weekend. I did indulge a bit and make a pie, had two small pieces, will see if the scale reflects it tomorrow.

Going2- I have used the 2 carb hamburger bun recipe on Linda's site and it's pretty good. Are you familiar w/her site? Probably cheaper than buying lc buns (although I have no idea what those cost).

Jan- good to see you back, hope you are feeling better.

Jeanne- glad the ice missed you.

Hi Crazy1, Carol, and everyone else. Have a great week.
