Feet and lower legs turn purple when sitting

No medical problems that I am aware of but when I sit my feet and lower legs turn purple. As soon as I move around the circulation returns to normal. Are some just prone to poor circulation?

Pressure on the back of your thighs could be causing it.
I got a new computer chair and had a similar problem. I have to sit more forward since it's taller than my last one.
But if it just started happening, talk to your doctor!

I think you definitely need to see a GP, then probably a vein doctor. You could have a blockage somewhere.

Just came back from appt. with vein Dr. as I had an vein ablation in left lower leg about
6 weeks ago.
He suggested no sitting for more than 30 minutes without getting up and walking
about for awhile. Elevate legs 4 times per day. It sounds like a chore but having
these leg spasms is much worse.

Wishing you well.

Jeaniem, when you sit, are your feet on the floor, or are your legs dangling? That could make a difference. I get pain in my right calf but no discoloration. When I was in the hospital recently they did a doppler to check for blood clots but none was found.

It does happen when my feet are on the floor, my feet have turned purple since I was a teen, so that is why I am unsure if it is a concern. Surely now that I am 56 it would have shown itself in some way if it was a concern?

But as we age our arteries can get ‘hardened’ so it could be becoming a problem now.

I see what you're saying, it's something you've had for a long time. Have you ever mentioned it to a doctor?

One Dr. when I was a teen dismissed it as nothing of concern. I HATE Dr's and do not trust them to not send me for unnecessary tests or try to put me on statins? Last time I saw my Dr she wanted me on statins for my high ldl, my triglycerides and hdl were good, so I said no thanks. Funny after I declined the statins I had a life insurance physical and with those same cholesterol numbers was given low premium rates due to my good health! I guess I will have to decide whether I should go see my doc again.
