Reflections on the 5 year, 11 month anniversary of my WLS.

It'll be 6 years, June 13th, but since this site will be closed down, I'd better post now.

This forum is where I first learned about my surgery, the gastric sleeve, so I always like to do a yearly reflection to pay it forward, in case there is someone like me, who is thinking about surgery.

I am still, 6 years later, ecstatic, grateful, overjoyed by the changes WLS brought/brings to my life. I often say, I was let out of fat prison. While many of my friends commiserate on growing older, I think I was old before my time, but now I feel so young! My 50s are what my 30s should have been. Time travel does exist!

WLS did not solve every problem in my life, but it sure is easier to cope without the weight of a whole other person on my back! And maintaining is not effortless, but it's way easier than before. I never maintained any weight loss longer than 2 years, but now, 6 years later, although I'm not still at my lowest weight, I'm within spitting distance, and am still in the same wardrobe. (With many, many new things added each year)

Thanks for all the support over the years. I think fondly of the many people who have come and gone, and hope all is well with everyone. If you're thinking that beating obesity is an impossible dream, I want you to know it doesn't have to be. It's a dream, the best kind, because it can come true. I my sleeve
