Thanks for answers on Calcium Caseinate; will use in next batch.
QUESTION TO ALL: what kind of glass containers do you use? (I don't want to use plastic). Thanks.

I do use plastic..But, since I don't make a bunch, you could use quart canning jars or very cleaned out mayo jars.

Happy to hear that, baby..
I was shopping this morning and there are so many different kinds of non-fat dry milk. Best Choice, Sanalac and Carnation...not to mention GValue. I haven't price checked, but it seemed like the 64 ounce Sanalac was $14.XX. This is a regular grocery store..

I find the Shake It Up Shaker I got free with a large order from Netrition works great for my homemade LC milk.

I use the empty 1 liter glass jar that blue cheese dressing comes in at Costco. It looks exactly like the old time milk jars that as a kid was delivered to our front door.

Hey, there are some great juices that come in real glass bottles. Give the juice to the kiddos and save the bottle.

BTW, today I found plastic screw on lids for Ball, Kerr and other canning jars at WalMart. They also fit lots of glass jars such as pickles, salad dressings, etc. I was so ![]()

I just made Carolyn's milk recipe and it is great. I have a little bit of calorie countdown milk left and compared the two, there is no noticeable difference.
Thanks Carolyn. |

Thank you, CarolynF! I just bookmarked this thread. I'm going to try it. The CC Milk is pretty much "non existant" in my community.

Melle: I LOVE Branson..We live about 4 hours away..
For a great container, I got some grapefruit juice in the refrigerated section of the supermarket. It looks like a wine carafe with a screw-on type lid. It is a great shape for the milk. I think you could make this hormone free..Use organic cream and I do think Bob's Red Mill carries a nonfat milk powder..Talk about lots cheaper than organic milk!!!!!

OK, I will be making this, finally. I have a small box of powdered milk, Kroger brand {same carb count} I had forgotten about. Unopened and new. All I need to get is the heavy cream... I have an old Tupperware shaker, so that'll be good, then find something else to store it in. I think I have some canning jars hanging around someplace... If not I kanow I have an empty jar or two I keep from other things...
I will absolutly look into the organic heavy cream, and when it's time to replace this box I'll look for Bob's Red Mill!

If you're ever finding yourself in need of some grocery shopping, while in Branson, Country Mart on Hwy 248 has a fabulous selection of healthy items. Of course, there's also Nature's Sunshine, on 76. They also have fresh organic black angus beef, in the butcher section at Country Mart (248). It's a little pricier, but I love it. I don't know about you, but I hate having to grocery shop, in towns that I'm not familar with. Last edited by Sugar Free Sweet Pea; 05-07-2008 at 12:20 PM.. |

Just wanted to say "thank you" again, Carolyn for this recipe...I LOVE IT! I bought a jar of "Simply Grapefruit" and when the juice was gone, I cleaned and dried so that it would house the "homemade milk". What a blessing to have such good tasting milk for recipes, drinking, etc. and for the low-cost savings!
You are the best!!! ![]() |

I bought the powdered milk today and am going to give this a try. I personally don't like the CC milk, but DH does so I know he'll drink this and I'm hoping I like it too. Years and years ago when I first joined WW it was hard to find skim milk so we had to make our milk from the powdered stuff. The trick I remember we used to get rid of the "powder" taste was to mix it up with hot water and then chill it.

I'm still making mine just as needed in my Magic Bullet. Works great in there and you can drink right out of the same cup you mix it in.
I'm still drinking the rest of my CC chocolate milk I have...so, once it's gone I will have room for another bottle. I did buy some fat free half and half to try in the milk to lower the fat. I want to see how it tastes in comparision to the heavy cream.

Kiki: Yuppers..heavy whipping cream/heavy cream is the same in my book.
Yes, they do make FF half/half..Let us know how that works in the "milk", Char. Of course, you can always use regular half/half if that is what you regularly have in your fridge. It is a very flexible recipe.
