I'm up 2.6 after 2 days so I'm pretty discouraged bc I lose so slowly. I'm doing my planned day 3 and I'm done. How quickly I lose this will determine if I attempt again in the future.

I haven't touched a potato in 1 week and am still having pretty severe bouts of Hypoglycemia.

I can't say for sure it was caused by the potato hack, but it's something I never experienced before and it's horrible.

I have been getting so faint and dizzy. This morning I almost passed out on the train coming to work and had to eat a Think Thin bar the moment I got to my desk.

I'm feeling much better now, but if today is like the rest of this week it will plumit again in an hour or 2.

If this keeps up I will be going to my doctor pronto.

Sweet Potato Hack

Day 1: 121.4
Day 2: 118.6
Day 3: 119.2
Day 4: 117.4

Yesterday I had 5 potatoes with salt. I didn't eat the skins this time. All 3 days I ate them cold and drank only black coffee and water. I feel especially good this morning, and I'm not hungry. My feet are still swollen, so there may stil be some water retention. I'll continue to post the next few days to report what happens when I eat normally again.

I'm down .8 - so a total of 1.8 up still. I was retaining SO much water yesterday I was miserable. I feel good today. Resuming normal eating, basic low carb. Depending on how quickly this water weight comes off depends on if I start Monday again. I did like the diet because A) It kept carb and sugar cravings at bay, in fact I didn't have any cravings at all, B) it was mindless and CHEAP! and C) - to be determined - if it helps with blood sugar spikes and water rebounds from carbs, I'm SOLD!

It was more successful than I expected. Last night was a bit of a challenge, but when my husband was munching on wheat crackers and having wine I just had another potato and I made it. It feels really good to have completed all 3 days without deviation.

You did great. Did you have the issue with gas people were reporting on the regular ph?

No, no issues with gas. But I anticipated constipation since that's a chronic problem with me, so I took a laxative and all was fine.

Day 1: 121.4
Day 2: 118.6
Day 3: 119.2
Day 4: 117.4
Day 5: 116.0

The number really surprised me this morning. I didn't expect that at all. Yesterday I had coffee w/hh, scrambled eggs and broccoli for breakfast, a salmon salad for lunch, a protein shake for dinner, and Greek yogurt with cashews for my evening snack.

I had a 2.4 pound whoosh, putting me at 1.4 below the start of the PH. Still not new territory, but still pleased. I ate low carb breakfast and lunch, then had chicken mcnuggets and a bun less cheeseburger.

I can't wait to see what happens over the next few days. Some.of.you are rocking this!

How are you feeling now? This is what I would be worried about, that it would throw my blood sugar out of sorts. I'm not diabetic but at times it gets into high and low swings and it's miserable to deal with. It's also hard to get back into control when it starts doing it since I'm not on medication.

Hopefully by now you are much better

Thanks, Katie. I think it could possibly work for you if you don't have blood sugar issues, just prepare yourself to be strictly adherent. It can get boring and you may feel like quitting. But if you stick with it to the end you'll likely see results.

I think my blood sugar is getting more even. The last 3x I checked it was between 71-74.

I had a great DD yesterday and today I treated myself to a donut at about 11am. I just checked my blood glucose now at 7:50pm and at it was 74. I have a bit of a headache, but I think I'm just tired.

I'm very tempted to give the PH another try, but I'm going to stick to EOD for the next few weeks and see what happens. I'm at 133.2 today and TOM is still here, so I'll just have to see where my weight goes in the 10 days or so

Carly-

I think you're wise to stick to EOD for a while. When my weight went up from that Rx, I panicked and did all sorts of extreme things to try to bring it back down, but I'd lose a few pounds and then immediately bounce back up.

It was only when I returned to good DDs and calorie control that I was able to inch back down to my base weight. It was slow, but it was the only thing that worked for me.

I didn't think it was possible, but my weight was down again today. Yesterday I had coffee w/hh, a protein shake for breakfast, tuna with veggies for lunch, and Greek yogurt with cashews for my afternoon snack. In the evening we were invited to an oyster roast and I had some oysters and veggies. My husband doesn't like oysters so we went to Mexican afterward and I had beans and rice. According to my experience I would say the weight stays off.

I have found also that even though I intitially had a huge bump during the PH, I have lost steadily every day since. I experimented with different foods etc this weekend, having even low carb pancakes for breakfast both days, a few french fries, chocolate, etc - and still continually lost. I'm planning on doing another hack next week. It did wonders for my cravings alone.

How did you prepare your potatoes; condiments, etc? What did you drink through the day? Congratulations on your success!

I mostly had hashbrowns, just microwaved. I had mashed potatoes twice. I made potatoes (Yukon Golds)in the crockpot but they were YUCK (they got mushy and slimy). I'm just going to bake in the oven next time.

I put salt and pepper on them. I also tried a variety of things: ketchup, some honey mustard, Greek yogurt, some queso, sauerkraut, 'butter' spray. I tried making gravy from boullion which was somewhat successful. I did eat rice one night with just salt. I had SF creamer and a bit of cream in my coffee each day.

Thanks Carolina I wish I had initially lost but not upset with the losses that are following now!

Good for you not getting discouraged. It's so tempting to quit. For me sticking it out was very rewarding, just being able to say I did it.

I'm doing a potato DD today. I'll post my results tomorrow...posting here for accountability

Hope it goes well! I'll be keeping it simple, I plan on 2 broth-boiled potatoes with salt and pepper only.

Pasta Anyone?

Cooked, cooled, and reheated pasta??? Now we're talking

I only read the first couple of posts but this sounds like something that would be right up my alley. Have any of you tried it or the other things mentioned here?

I wonder if you could mix up your meals, ie. potatoes for lunch and pasta for dinner instead of just doing one type of resistant starch...Thoughts?

I read on another website that cooked and cooled pasta is a good source of resistant starch. I think I also read through some old potato hack threads and there might have been someone who experimented with it - I bet you rice pasta would work really well!

I only had rice one time. It's hard to tell what it's affect was for me because I only gained on the hack and only lost afterwards.

So I gained 2.5 pounds from a 532 calorie potato DD.

1. I am sure I used WAY too much salt, both for cooking and for eating

2. I did a kettle bell workout, I read you're not supposed to do too much heavy exercising...unfortunately I read that AFTER I ate did the workout

3. The potatos were yummy, very satisfying, I was STUFFED and only had 3 russets boiled, cooled, then roasted with a bit of olive oil spray, salt, garlic salt, and pepper.... - WAY too much salt!! WAY too much...smh...

So....I'm pretty sure the weight isn't real, I sure look smaller thanks to the workout so I have no regrets.
